Lawmakers’ Children Lobby Against TikTok Ban
Even our own lawmakers’ children are on TikTok, begging their parents not to ban the app.
From The Wall Street Journal. As members of Congress consider a crackdown on TikTok, many have faced lobbying from some of their most vocal constituents: their own children.

“She was initially up in arms about the whole thing, ‘you can’t do that,’” says Rep. Josh Gottheimer, (D., N.J.) of his daughter.
The 14-year-old was worried her friends would be mad about her dad’s actions. He voted with the majority of the House earlier this month to force TikTok to divest from its Chinese-controlled parent Bytedance or be banned in the U.S. …
Across the U.S., most teenagers don’t follow the daily ins-and-outs of Congress, and that generally even goes for children of lawmakers. …
Yet, TikTok has their attention. It is directly in the wheelhouse of young people, with some anxious about losing their favorite source of entertainment.
A Michigan Democrat, Rep. Hillary Scholten, was in the middle-school pickup line when one of her son’s friends asked, “Are you the one who’s banning TikTok?”
Democratic Sen. John Fetterman was headed back to Pennsylvania after the House voted on the legislation when his tween daughter lobbied him.
“I’m driving home and she sent me some texts, and it was ‘please don’t destroy TikTok, I’m going to get bullied,’” he recalls. …
The ban or forced sale of one of the most popular social media apps in the U.S. would be unprecedented—but many lawmakers say it is necessary for national security, given TikTok’s parent ByteDance is based in China and could be subject to data requests from that government.
TikTok has said it hasn’t shared and won’t share the data with the Chinese government even if Beijing demands it. The Chinese government has signaled it won’t allow a forced sale of TikTok, limiting options for the app’s owners.

I definitely believe Tik tok should be banned. So many children are suffering from lack of connection and internet addiction. Plus a lot are online trolls and others are bullied online.
Lord God Almighty, please protect the minds of our American children against the negative forces of power with social media who manipulate their minds 🙏! Fight against this Chinese evil with strong wisdom of our lawmakers and leaders of all kinds!
Tik Tok needs to be banned-eliminated-destroyed in Jesus name.
Perhaps some people/parents need to open their Bibles to Dueteronomy 5:16, have discussions with (their) children about their Heavenly Father who is faithful… and even more Biblical discussions and prayer.
Freedom doesn’t work unless Christian-Judeo beliefs are in play by the major majority. Laws are for law breakers. I have heard arguments for freedom against banning Tik Tok. They are naive. So many are working at corrupting our youth, it is hard for even diligent parents to protect their children. Culture makes a difference.
Unless TikTok gets sold to an American-run group, as is possible, I agree that it should be banned. It is a national security threat. The kids will just have to get over it. Greater issues are at stake than these users of TikTok realize. The chinese are up to no good, as usual, and CANNOT be trusted. Lord Jesus, I pray for Your divine intervention in this mess. Please give our lawmakers guidance and wisdom in this issue. Thank You, Jesus.
China does not own TikTok. Please educate yourself. This is about suppressing free speech and it’s going to get worse if this passes. We have much bigger problems with China than TT. Like why are they buying farmland next to military bases? Why do we import literally everything from China. Govt doesn’t care about that in the least. They do care about controlling our speech which is what this is about.
Christy:
What are the sources of your information that indicates China or Chinese does not own TikTok? Also source (s) of those who actually hold rights, licenses to the app.
Thank you.
This whole tik tok ban, and the supposed pushback sounds very contrived. Maybe it’s a distraction from something else?
Father, please give us, and our leaders, true wisdom, which can only come from you. Turn our leaders’ hearts to you in repentance, and give them courage and discernment to do what is right in your eyes.
Why would any government official Ban TikTok when our current President continues to use it???? Think hard..why..
I agree on two fronts. The ban on Tik Tok seems to be a distraction for something else, and to ban it would be a slippery slope to banning other platforms inhibiting our freedom of speech. It seems to me there are other ways of dealing with a cyber threat, if Tik Tok is one, than in banning it.
