I Prayed have prayed
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Twice in the last two days, the Holy Spirit has reminded me of the simplest yet most profound truth:

Life is a series of little things.

Little pieces of time.

Little actions of service.

Little moments of communication.

Little chores.

Little chuckles.

Little decisions.

Little prayers.

Life equals little units of action all strung together over a period of time.

[Today], we step into a new year. . . .

And while we’re doing whatever we’re doing, the thoughts will occur to us:

“What should I do in the new year?”

“What new resolution should I make?”

“What will the year 2020 hold for me and my family?”

Some of us may even spend some time goal-setting and writing down specific plans. And that’s good.

But at the start of this year and the start of this decade, I believe the Holy Spirit is helping me to gain a more mature view than what I may have had in my more restless younger years.

I hear him calling to me with simple words over and over again…

“Look for me in the little things, Lisa. When you cook dinner for your family giving careful thought to their needs. When you look at that grandchild in the eye and tell them how proud you are. When you choose to affirm your husband. When you pick up your Bible and just spend a few minutes with me…I am there. And I am pleased.”

That is the impression I am hearing in my spirit for my life for 2020. I honestly want my life to matter. I honestly want to grow more Christ-like in my character and my faith. And I want to dream big plans!

But honestly…I hear him calling me to the simple small moments; and I am so excited. One day at a time. One moment at a time. And together, Jesus and I will have a new adventure.

And for that, I am very grateful.

Amen. The things we think are so necessary to accomplish great things, like big social media followings and mighty platforms, are nothing compared to obedience.

A word fitly spoken in love and obedience to a small child can accomplish more than a self-willed speaking career to millions. The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

It might not feel as powerful, but a life spent serving one’s family can be just the humble place needed for such a time as this. God gives grace to the humble. Oh that our nation were full of humble people, so God could shed His grace on us!

Thank you Lisa for reminding us how God can use the “little things” and be glorified. I think in the scheme of things people think that if you aren’t in the spotlight or public ministry you aren’t making a difference. In the little things done with God’s heart make just as much an impact in someone’s life as other “bigger things.” It’s not so much the act, but the heart of obedience behind the act that makes “the little things” matter the most. What a beautiful reminder of the goodness of God. Thank you for sharing!

Yes, Linda … I too was encouraged by your message. It reminded me of Proverbs 13:11b (AMPC) “…he who gathers little by little will increase [in riches].” This translation mentions riches but I am sure it would apply to other things in our lives as well. I believe it is definitely a good principle to live by. As you said, life is made up of little chores, little moments of communication … I have found that life is a collection of little units of action all strung together … such as taking one day at a time and handling one thing at a time … doing them all little by little.

Awesome words … Thanks so much for sharing them with us … God Bless:-)

chuckles and acts of service sounds good to me. As we enter a new decade – which might be our last should the Lord Jesus return – take time to listen to God thru his word.

Thank you, Linda, for this great word. Being faithful in the little things is being faithful to God. I am encouraged by your message.
