For decades, checkpoints in Iran have been a constant reminder of the government’s control over daily life. Now, recent Israeli military actions are directly targeting these enforcement positions, signaling a potential shift in the balance of power on the streets.

From The Epoch Times:

Now, that system is being directly targeted. In recent days, Israel has significantly expanded its military operations inside Iran, focusing on strategic targets to include the Islamic Republic’s internal enforcement network. Strikes have increasingly concentrated on Basij checkpoints, police stations, and mobile security units across major cities, particularly in the capital city of Tehran.

On March 17, Israeli forces reportedly killed Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of the Basij. According to Israeli military statements on March 17, as well as videos received from inside Iran, Basij positions at more than 10 locations across Tehran were struck within a short period of time.

One of the targeted sites was reportedly operating from a former soccer club, highlighting the extent to which security forces are embedded within civilian environments.

Expanded Context

For decades, checkpoints were not simply security installations—they were tools of psychological control, embedded into the daily routines of ordinary Iranians. Young couples were stopped and questioned, women confronted over dress codes, and minor infractions could lead to fines, detention, or worse. Incidents like the killing of 9-year-old Kian Pirfalak during the 2022 protests illustrate how these checkpoints became instruments of fear and oppression.

The recent Israeli strikes represent a significant disruption to this system of control. By targeting Basij positions directly, these operations not only limit the regime’s ability to intimidate civilians but also signal that oppressive forces are vulnerable. Videos show security personnel retreating in the face of drone activity and public pressure, suggesting that the psychological dominance the regime has maintained for decades is beginning to erode. This shift could provide Iranian citizens more space to gather publicly, celebrate cultural traditions like Nowruz, and organize for change, while international attention adds another layer of protection for civilians.

These developments also highlight the broader spiritual dimension: a regime long built on fear is encountering resistance, and ordinary citizens have renewed hope that justice and freedom are possible. Intercessors can pray that this momentum continues, that God’s protection surrounds those who dare to step into the streets, and that the oppressive structures lose their grip without escalating harm to innocent people.

A Call to Prayer for Intercessors

Intercessors, pray for the safety and courage of Iranian citizens living under fear and repression. Ask God to protect those taking steps toward freedom and guide Israeli and American leaders as the conflict continues.

Intercessor, share this article and lift up a prayer — Iran’s people need our intercession and God’s protection now.

We need to achieve our goal- no ability to make nuclear bombs by Iran- and get OUT of this conflict.. Let the radical people of the Middle East fight it out. Israel and the nations of the Middle East have far more skin in the game than we do. This has been going on since Biblical times. President Trump is NOT going to bring any lasting peace to this region of the world. Peace will come to the Middle East when Jesus Christ returns, NOT before.

Father, I pray in agreement with the prayers of other intercessors. As the check points are eliminated may the fear that they instilled in the people fall back on those who created and enforced the threats. I pray that they will have a change of heart toward righteousness or be elminated. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Obviously, the nation of Israel has more skin in the game than the U.S. in this conflict. I pray, Lord, that You will give the leaders of Israel guidance and wisdom as to their actions. May this bombing of these checkpoints be a productive event in this ongoing conflict. I pray for the safety and well-being of the Iranian citizens. Thank You Jesus.

Father, I pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit and Your angels at work, that the Iranian people would be able to find freedom, find Jesus, take over their government. Let the glory of God fill every city and village in Iran. Set the people free. redeem Your own, Lord, in this hour. Protect and defend those who belong in Your Kingdom. Show the Iranians Your might, power and majesty. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
