Early on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 7, Islamic terrorist group Hamas launched a brutal assault on Israel. Rockets soared into the the nation’s south region, while pickup trucks and parachutists crossed the border. That afternoon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a bold statement:

“Since this morning, the State of Israel has been at war. … We are at war. In war, one needs to be level-headed. I call on all citizens of Israel to unite in order to achieve our highest goal — victory in the war.”

Since Oct. 7, the war has grown in scale and intensity. Well over 1,000 Jews have been killed, and hundreds of people of various ethnicities and nationalities have been taken hostage. Hamas has been terrorizing, murdering, and raping with stunning ruthlessness. Israel, meanwhile, has launched a counteroffensive titled Operation Iron Swords, aiming to quickly defeat and destroy Hamas.

The war is complicated because of who and what it involves. The conflict is taking place amid a complicated web of tense international relations involving Israel and its allies, including the United States, and Israel’s enemies, including Iran and Hezbollah, enemies who openly detest the Jews and have endorsed these Hamas attacks.

As the war continues, we must keep praying for God’s people in Israel. The enemies of the Jewish people desire nothing less than their total extinction, but we know that God’s people will always prevail.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
Psalm 122:6

This war began on the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah. What was supposed to be a day of celebration became the bloodiest day for the Jewish people since the end of the Holocaust.

It is undeniable that there is a spiritual aspect to this war. Satan has always hated the Jews, and this conflict is the latest in a long line of attempts to wipe out God’s people. We can tell that Satan is at work, because the Bible tells us that he comes only to steal, kill, and destroy (see John 10:10) — and that is exactly what Hamas is doing. The terrorists are stealing and kidnapping hostages, killing innocent Jews, and seeking to destroy the very nation of Israel itself. We have also witnessed a great deal of misinformation being propagated about this war, which recalls Christ’s characterization of Satan as the father of lies (see John 8:44).

Let’s pray not just for the peace of Jerusalem, but also against the plans of the devil, who has always desired the destruction of the Jewish people.

Proverbs 22:3
“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
This dreadful situation in Jerusalem begs the question:
Our Father, Why did nobody see this coming?
We have your promises in Psalm 91 as our portion:
I ask YOU LORD GOD to reveal why this situation was not foreseen.
Psalm 91:
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

The Word of The LORD.

I would respectfully like to posit that what Hamas did was not war, it was the evil massacre of civilians – infants, children, women and men. It was a cowardly attack against defenseless human beings who posed little or no threat to them. It was a demonically inspired act of senseless hatred against God’s chosen people. Equating what they did to war – especially as Israel (and the USA) normally wages war – is offensively inaccurate.

I have also prayed Psalm 122 through 125 as it all seems appropriate for this situation.
