Holding Steady Amid Chaos
While perusing through the latest news articles recently, a single thought ran through my mind: The whole earth is groaning and shaking. Earthquakes in Taiwan and New York; damaging storms and tornados across several states; unprecedented high winds in cities all around me — all of this shows me that something quite unusual is happening. At least, these are things I haven’t seen before in my lifetime.
Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.
The following day I found myself at a horse show, inside a large barn with hundreds of horses. All the horses and even the dogs present were acting oddly: neighing and kicking or barking constantly. All these animals seemed to be on edge, acting in a manner that wasn’t normal. I said to one of the coaches: “What is going on with the horses today?” She replied: “I really think something is off in the atmosphere; each one of them is acting erratically.”
It certainly did seem as if something was off. With all these thoughts running through my mind this past weekend, I remembered a scripture verse I’d once read, one that should give us great comfort in the current climate of our nation, and I turned to it:
“When the earth and everyone living upon it spin into chaos, I am the One who stabilizes and supports it” (Psalm 75:3 VOICE).
Digging a little deeper, I found a couple more translations:
When the earth totters, and all the inhabitants of it, it is I Who will poise and keep steady its pillars. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! (AMPC).
“When the earth quakes and its people live in turmoil, I am the one who keeps its foundations firm” (NLT).
Walking through the past few years, we have all become acutely aware of what chaos feels like. A dictionary definition of chaos might be: complete disorder and confusion. Chaos is a time in which it feels as if everything is out of our control. Looking around today, I can certainly relate to that feeling. It is a very vulnerable place indeed.
We as a people once felt we had control over much that has happened in our lives, such as medical decisions, what is being taught to our children, and when and where we can go places — but many things that were once our choice alone seem to have changed. It feels just like that scripture: The whole earth and every person on it seem to be shaking and quaking in turmoil. The good news is that when everything spins into chaos, God is the one who will stabilize and support it.
I love the translation that says God “will poise and keep steady” the earth’s pillars.
To poise means “to balance.” That means to hold as being supported or suspended, immovable, in a steady position. God will bring balance while He holds and supports our world and the people in it. Our great God will keep us steady.
“… I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).
Oh, my goodness, I don’t know about you, but that passage is very encouraging to me! When everything around us seems to be shaking out of control, our God promises to not only hold us steady, but also to hold the world we’re living in steady and immovable. How does He do that?
We find the answer in the book of Hebrews:
He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power (Hebrews 1:3 AMP).
If our surroundings seem shaky, unstable, and even chaotic, whether in our personal family or in our nation, God has already set a plan in place from before the foundations of the world. He will uphold, maintain, guide, and propel the universe and our personal world by His mighty word of power. That power is in the Word of God. His Word, spoken out of our mouths, will bring stability in shaky times. For that reason alone, we must never stop praying and interceding. We must continue to declare God’s unfailing Word out of our mouths — concerning our families, our cities, our states, and our nation.
If we want change in our lives, we must saturate ourselves with the Word of God on a consistent basis. This cannot be something we do only in crisis. No! We should be so full of the Word of God that nothing but the Word comes out of our mouths. We need to take time each day to read and listen to the Word of God. There alone will we find the life of God.
If we dig into the Word of God only when we need a miracle, we may find ourselves in need of supernatural intervention quite often. That is not God’s best for us. But if, on the other hand, we live in the Word of God daily, we will instead of being constantly in need of miracles be walking in the blessing of God.
Mental-health issues are on the rise. Anxiety and stress are at an all-time high. Many are feeling the chaos. Thousands are experiencing things around them that are shaking out of control. Yes, it is obvious that things are being shaken. But God has already declared His plan for the shaking: He will stabilize and keep us steady, if we will only keep our eyes and thoughts focused on Him. He promises to keep His people in perfect peace — as long as our minds are stayed upon Him. We cannot do that by engrossing ourselves only in the daily news or social media. No, that won’t work; we must stay in His presence and in His Word. As we do that, we will sense the assurance of the God who holds us steady in life.
My friend, if you’re feeling some shaking amid all the chaos, fear not! God is the stabilizer in your life. He will uphold you with His almighty right hand and His Word. Trust Him. Declare His promises and stand firm on them. The chaos will settle, and divine peace will come to rest upon you. That’s His promise.

“Do not fear” recorded in Bible over 300 times. A former President said, “The only thing to fear, is
fear itself”. Help us, Triune to TRUST!” In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Kim, your words, the WORD always lifts us up and keeps our weapons sharp! I loved the richness of the comments and what they drew from your words. Together we stand strong.
I sent your daily word to a friend in the hospital and he said, I sure do like Kim”. I pray your words bring healing to his bones.
Thank you for this!!!! As intercessors it is so important that we stay encouraged with our minds and hearts set on Jesus and His Word. The enemy wants us weary and afraid so we can’t pray. No! We resist him with the word of God, and he has to flee. God’s word promises it. Thank you, Kim. Praying for all of us to stay encouraged. Eyes on Jesus❤️🙏
In order to realize the Worth of the Anchor, we need to feel the stress of the storm. Corrie Ten Boom
Father, In this Storm that is building, We Praise You as You are giving us eyes to see that You alone are our Anchor,; You alone hold us steady! Father, we repent for the sins of our Nation, and for the Work You are accomplishing in us individually, in Your Ekklesia, and in the United States of America, along with the Nations of the world. We declare that we stand with Israel as You are doing great and mighty things in her! As You are accomplishing Your Work continue to remind us as Your co-workers, and children, that as You did with Nehemiah, That the Joy of the Lord is our Strength! Neh.8:10
We Praise You Lord of Heaven and Earth! In Yeshua’s Beautiful Name!❤️. Amen
Yesterday, we witnessed the second major solar eclipse which intersected with the first major solar eclipse in 2017. The sign they made as they crossed each other was the TAV, marking “the end”. The old world is passing on, and it’s time for God’s people to encourage each other. The chaos you see is not random. You are witnessing God’s hand in exposing issues that have always been there, but were hidden. The great awakening is God’s gift to the world. We must change the hearts and minds of the people and bring them to God, so we can use our collective power and prayer to bring about the cleansing that is necessary.
Put on the full Armor of God Ephesians 12:6
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
I pray Father GOD that your beloved Son, The Prince of Peace, would flood the minds and hearts of all your children today.
We pray Our Father that you would enlighten those who are lost, and for your justice to be meted out against all those who are deliberately opposing your divine order that they may turn to You for forgiveness and mercy. In JESUS NAME. Amen
I have a saying I have written in various places and have even used as passwords on occasion:
“I AM in control, not I!”
LORD we KNOW from your word, Your precious promises that You aline are our deliverer! As we experience the shaking of our world, we look to You. Isiah 43:2 assures us that when we pass through waters I will be with you. When we walk through fire, we will not be burned fir I the LORD am with you.
So good to think on that. Even though we pass through the water and walk through the fire, he is with us and protects us. God is good. As Jesus told the disciples before his death, “I do not leave you orphans.” Praise God.
Let us remember that God’s precious promises in scripture are often addressed to each individual believer, and not necessarily to the world in general. When we see chaos and threats around us, look inside your own soul, and in your immediate circumstances. Are these preserved and safe?
‘Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.’ – Is. 26:3
‘The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. – Prov 18:10’
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. – Ps 31.20
The other thing to look for is Blessing. While those in the world are being blown about in fear and confusion, God’s people are being actually blessed in the same circumstances. Counterintuitive, but true!
Thank you for this very encouraging word, pointing us to the promises of God. This brought to mind the old hymn, “Standing on the Promises”
1 Standing on the promises of Christ, my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
2 Standing on the promises that cannot fail.
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
3 Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
4 Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning ev’ry moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
Refrain:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
I feel anxious because I’m waiting on two big things to happen. I am 81 raising my Great granddaughter. Her mother is in prison. She’s been there almost 8 years. We need her home to parent her daughter who is 12. I can’t understand this new age. She ask if she could dye her hair. Really????OMG I need a miracle.
Next I have some property I inherited when my just passed. I need to sell it so I can catch up on my bills. Another miracle. It’s been listed for months. Thank you Lord. You are Almighty amazing ❤️🤩 and we love you. Amen 🙏❣️❣️
God Almighty You alone know all of the concerns of Gertie’s heart. I ask for an immediate and tangible expression of your affection for her, in Jesus’ Name. Pour out Your Grace and mercy in abundance as Gerrie seeks You for the circumstances of her life. And, let her great granddaughter rise up and call her blessed.
What a blessing to your granddaughter. It is amazing that she asked your permission about dying her hair. I am not raising my grandchildren, but they live close and I see my 16-year-old granddaughter almost every day. I am 80 and sometimes it is hard. But I have seen recently that I have helped her in her walk with Christ. Be encouraged. You do not have to understand all that is happening. Just know God has you with her to bless her and show her God’s love. I pray for your strength with her and for your financial need. God bless you,
I know it is a long Psalm, but Psalms 119 is awesome. If you don’t have time to read it all, at least meditate on verse 11 “Thy word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Not only will hiding his word in your heart (reading, memorizing, and digesting) help you not to sin against him, it strengthens you. I had, before finding this scripture, started memorizing different verses that popped out at me and repeating them each morning before leaving the house. As I did that, I saw God leading me to ones that now, I can repeat without looking at anything. We (daughter and grandson and I) have had to call upon several of them over these last few years when we felt attacked, tired, scared or near defeat. I see in this that he (not me) chose each scripture for us. My initial goal was that if they ever take our bibles away, we would still have his word to repeat, know and hear. But now I realize it gives us strength and a place on which to stand while fighting the devil. I find Psalms 27 to be especially strengthening and have memorized every verse of it. I hope you will start to form a list of verses as well.
God, I thank you for your word and it is indeed a lamp unto my feet lighting my path forward in strength till Iwe get to be with you. I am grateful and thankful for your leading. I love you my Lord and Savior!
Thank you for your inspiration and guidance. These days I seem to feel especially hopeless and fearful, but I know that is not God’s will for us. There may be a time when we are not allowed to access our Bibles as freely or even that we lose the ability to read and understand them due to effects of aging. I want His word hidden deep in my heart so it’s always there in times of fear and anxiety and also times of joy. Thank you for the inspiration today to do all I can with His help to read and treasure His word in my heart. Blessings!
Praying God’s peace and strength for you. All the psalms are good but we have personally memorized 91, 34, 103 and 27. I feel strengthened when I repeat them. Learning each verse took time, so don’t get discouraged. I would print them out to have on paper, carry them with me and work to memorize a few lines a day till I got those good, then I would add a line or two and work to do those four or five verses till I had them then add another one or two. In Psalms 34 I think it is four times in there that it says he will deliver you from ALL your fears and your troubles. When you hear yourself saying that out loud like we do each morning before we go anywhere (it now takes us about a half hour before we can leave, lol) it sets you on the right course for the day and hearing us declare his word makes you stronger. When I would add scriptures, shortly thereafter I would either read a Christian article like in here or in books I was reading, or even the preacher at our church would preach and use the new scripture we had just learned so I count that as God telling me he led me to them because he wants me to know them. He has somehow confirmed like that every one we have now memorized.
Here are a couple others that strengthen;
The everlasting God is your place of safety. His arms will hold you up forever. Deut. 33:27
He is the rock his works are perfect and all his ways are just, a faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he. Deut 32:4
For I am convinced that neither life nor death, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all of creation shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
Fear thou not for I am with thee, be not dismayed for I am thy God. Yea, I will strengthen thee, I will help thee, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10
God commended his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
Search me oh God and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts. If there be any wicked way in me, lead me in the way everlasting. Psalms 139:20-21
Give thanks in everything for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. Psalms 56:3
