Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is calling on the House to block taxpayer funding for abortion organizations through reconciliation after the Senate rejected his amendment on Wednesday.
Hawley sent a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Thursday afternoon, warning that if a ban on taxpayer funding for abortion providers is not extended, billions in federal dollars could flow to Planned Parenthood, which also has clinics that provide sex change drugs to minors.
“The House must take action now to protect America’s children. As you work to pass a Budget Resolution for a new reconciliation bill, it must include a ban on any federal funding for these trans-treatment and abortion providers. I urge you to act without delay or hesitation,” he concluded.
The push comes as an existing restriction on federal funding for abortion providers is set to expire on July 4, raising urgency among pro-life lawmakers. Hawley’s proposal sought to extend and strengthen these protections through the budget reconciliation process, which would allow such measures to pass with a simple majority in the Senate. Without action, critics warn that taxpayer dollars could be used to fund both abortion services and controversial medical treatments for minors.
Supporters of the effort point to recent reports highlighting the scale of federal funding already directed toward Planned Parenthood, as well as increases in services related to gender-related treatments at some of its clinics. These developments have intensified concerns among pro-life advocates who argue that public funds should not be used to support practices they believe violate the sanctity of life and God’s design.

We must continue to work and pray for an end to taxpayer funded abortions, and to a chastity based push towards an outlawing of abortion nationwide. We must also pray for a leveraged end to abortion on demand in Israel so that they might truly become a Christian Nation, reflecting the values and morality of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

Father, I pray LIFE for the unborn and I pray DEATH to Planned Parenthood and every other entity profiting on the blood of the innocent. I pray and I pray and I pray…I will NEVER give up my responsibility to intercede for these tiny ones. I do so in the Name of Jesus Christ, Your only begotten Son and my Savior…who is totally able to deliver us who approach You through Him. I have never agreed with abortion. Believe it is murder. Why should I pay for something that I don’t believe in.
