From The Western Journal. A Republican congressman is calling for action after the Merchant Marine Academy decided to cover up an iconic painting of Jesus.

The painting, entitled “Christ on the Water,” has hung at the academy in Kings Point, New York, since the 1940s, and was inspired by seamen killed during World War II, according to Fox News.
In January, the academy decided to cover the painting with a white curtain in response to the objections from 18 students and a complaint filed by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

In a statement, the academy said it was responding to “constitutional concerns related to a painting hanging in the Elliot See Conference Room in Wiley Hall.”
“Our priority is to ensure the Academy is a welcoming environment for all and that it respects all religions without endorsing one over any others. In light of this, the Academy has chosen to cover the painting with curtains, and will also install a plaque describing its history. The curtains will remain closed when official Academy meetings and events are conducted. This solution balances legal requirements with the concerns of those who have an interest in the painting,” the statement said.
Banks disputed the explanation, according to Fox News.
“Covering this painting isn’t about ‘constitutional concerns,’ it is just the latest example of the Left’s woke agenda,” Banks said.
Banks wrote Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg a letter demanding the painting be restored, without being hidden. The academy is under the jurisdiction of the Maritime Administration, which is part of the Department of Transportation. …
Banks said a 2019 Supreme Court ruling stated that “historic displays with religious symbolism are not a violation of the constitution.” …

I am saddened to hear of this action being taken by the administration of the Merchant Marine Academy, but this is just another example of the Left’s efforts to conceal the truth. My uncle was a merchant marine who served during WWII on convoys crossing the north Atlantic. By the grace of God he survived those actions, whereas many did not. If we fail to recognize the inspiration which motivated such persons, those who risked their lives for the sake of our freedom, I think our nation is inviting disaster.

It’s so sad that the leaders in the Merchant Marine Academy are ignorant of what the Constitution says! No where in the Constitution is there wording that says ‘separation of church and state!’ That does not exist! What it says is that Government CAN NOT INFRINGE ON THE FREE EXERCISE OF RELIGION! So I would call Alliance Defending Freedom and sue them for everything I could! FATHER GOD I bind the demonic spirits in our government, beginning with joe biden, his cabinet, all of the demonized in Congress, and the military!

During (much of) August 1995, Hurricane Felix meandered up and down the East Coast. It never made landfall but was a danger. At that time, my husband was on a tanker which ran from NY to St. Croix. I had no cell phone, 2 small boys, too many well meaning phone calls, which stoked even more anxiety and a young faith. One morning I sat before my Bible and challenged the Lord to tell me something to quell my fear. When I opened it, my eyes were drawn to the top of the page and I read:
23Some went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.
24They saw the works of the Lord, his wonderful deeds in the deep.
25For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves.
26They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away.
27They reeled and staggered like drunkards; they were at their wits’ end.
28Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.
29He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.
30They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.
31Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.

I cried. I thanked Him. My heart was at peace. My fear was removed. I was HIS, fully and totally. And throughout my husband’s life sailing the waters of the world, I was fearless in prayer. And as I prayed, the Lord gave me many more personal experiences which built up my faith and reliance on HIM alone.
Dear Father God, You know these 18 young men have no idea the peril they face in this profession. I do too. I pray You will draw them in a way that they cry out to You. I remember, “there are no atheists in foxholes” and I believe there are none in raging storms at sea. I believe Jesus walked upon the water. I believe Jesus calmed the storm saying, “Silence! Be still!” I believe He can do a work in these 18 and pray it is today. It matters not what men do. You are God of the Waters. You are still Mia Chi, The Living Water. I thank You and Praise You: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen
This painting is beautiful. We Americans need revival. Constitutional “Congress shall make no establishment of religion” does not mean anti-religious activity.
Protect the actions of the original Merchant Marines that wanted
to give glory to God.
