Something is happening — have you seen it? Perhaps you’ve sensed it. For decades, even for centuries, many have prayed and contended for revival in America, and they have refused to give up hope, despite the conditions. Are we seeing answered prayers concerning revival in America? If your answer is no, here are just a couple of encouraging headlines to consider.

At the beginning of the year, IFA President and CEO Dave Kubal shared a word of encouragement for 2023 that you can read here. We are seeing this being answered.

CBN News reported in January of a revival taking place in Kentucky. IFA recently shared reports of revival among the First Nations, which you can read here. And yesterday, IFA posted about the revival going on at Asbury University.

Though there is evil and corruption in this nation, I also see God at work. Something is definitely happening, and if you are focused only on evil and every negative thing, you will miss it. God is on the move!

Prayer meetings are thriving. The uncompromised gospel of Jesus Christ is being preached. Hunger and desperation for more is increasing. Miracles, signs, and wonders are happening, displaying the glory and power of God. Demons are manifesting but being cast out, and people are getting healed and delivered. Most important, people are giving their lives to Jesus.

This is revival.

It’s about more than just church, though that’s where it begins. It’s about advancing the kingdom of God and coming to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

Times of darkness have preceded moves of God since biblical times. Evil and deception did thrive, and spiritual decline was abundant; God’s people were in compromise, causing many to repent for the sins of their nation and to call upon the Lord.

Consider the showdown between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. What was the spiritual climate of the nation at that time? (see 1 Kings 18).

What about the Book of Acts? Peter and a few disciples were hiding in an upper room, after which Peter preached out in the open with great boldness (see Acts 2).

Does any of this seem like America today? It’s easy to toss up your hands in defeat and give in to gloom and doom, but these are the very conditions that cause people to cry out to God.

When people awaken to the truth that Jesus is the only One who can satisfy, revival is near. When there is true repentance and people call upon the name of Jesus to save, revival is near. When people become so dissatisfied with the moral decay and evil in the nation that they rise up and confront it, revival is near. Some regions are already seeing this happen.

Do you want to see this in your city?

Keep praying. If your church has prayer meetings, show up with expectation. Prayer is the catalyst and sustainer of every revival. If your church doesn’t have prayer meetings, pray for your church. If you don’t have a church, find one and get connected.

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere (Ephesians 6:18 NLT).

Pray for your pastors, your leaders, and their families. Standing for righteousness’ sake will put targets on them. They need your prayers and covering. Pray for protection, encouragement, and wisdom. They are at the forefront of what God is doing.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths (Proverbs 3:5–6).

When God moves, expect opposition. The devil will stir up trouble wherever he can to distract from what God is doing. This can come in the form of religious opposition, persecution, slander, accusation, and counterfeits. Don’t take the bait.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8 NIV).

Avoid division and foolish quarrels. A divided church will not stand. Why win the argument when you can win a soul instead?

Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace (Ephesians 4:3 NLT).

Don’t sit back and be a spectator, be active. Share Jesus with someone today.

Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does (Psalm 96:2–3 NLT).

Though we are seeing glimpses of revival, we are still in the last days. We are warned in Scripture about what to expect (see 1 Timothy 4:1–2; 2 Timothy 3:1–5; Matthew 24:4–13; 2 Peter 3:3–4).

What we see happening in this nation shouldn’t catch us by surprise. We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus at all times.

Jesus said: “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself” (John 12:32).

Let’s exalt Jesus over our homes, over our cities, over this nation. Let’s exalt Jesus over everything. Let’s pray:

Father,

We thank You for hearing our prayers for this nation. Thank You, Lord, that even when darkness covers the face of the earth, Your glory shines through. You call us to arise and shine as well. You are doing something right now, and I don’t want to miss it.

We recognize that the spiritual condition of our nation is that we are in trouble. We recognize the spiritual condition of many churches is that they, too, are in trouble. We need You. Jesus Christ is our only hope. As darkness becomes more prevalent and people become more desperate, let that desperation drive them to the cross, where You are victorious.

Let Your churches that have bowed to the culture return to being Christ-centered. I pray for every believer who has let his or her fire go out. Let the discontentment cause them to return to their first love: Jesus Christ. I pray for their hearts to burn again for You, Lord.  

We’ve only heard or read about the revivals of old, and we pray that You would do it again, Lord! Do it again in my family! Do it again in my city! Do it again in this nation!
