Republicans in the Senate seem hesitant to confirm Matt Gaetz, Trump’s most recent appointment, as Attorney General. Will Gaetz be able to assume the office, or will this issue fracture the Republican majority in Congress?
From Fox News. President-elect Trump’s latest selection for his next administration is facing immediate backlash from some within the Senate GOP, as they say his attorney general pick, Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., will not get confirmed.

“He will never get confirmed,” a Republican senator, granted anonymity to speak freely, told Fox News Digital.
One Senate Republican source simply said, “Ain’t gonna happen,” about the prospect of Gaetz’s confirmation. …
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, told reporters, “I think we have to consider any nominee by the president seriously, but we also have a constitutional responsibility.”
He was prompted about whether the House Ethics investigation currently being conducted into Gaetz would factor in to his confirmation, to which the senator replied: “That might come up.”
The allegations being probed by the committee include sexual misconduct, illicit drug use and accepting improper gifts. …
“He will go through the nomination process just like everyone else,” said Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla.
Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., told reporters, “I got nothing for you on that,” when asked about Trump’s choice.
“I think what we can tell you right now is that we always allow the President to have the benefit of the doubt, but we still have to do our role in terms of due diligence,” said Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., when asked if he would vote to confirm Gaetz. …
While Republicans could very well be poised not to confirm Gaetz, who has proven controversial among his own party, Trump could look to appoint him through a recess appointment. The president-elect made an appeal to Senate Republican leader candidates earlier this week, telling them they must agree to allow him to make such appointments.

Before this nomination, years before, when there was no association with Trump at all and no reason for lawfare to be implied, he has been reported to have shown videos of girls to other congressmen.
If you are going to post this type of information, please provide the source of the information, and the who, when and wheres.
A lot of things are “reported”, some of which have no merit.
One of the reports is from Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin, Mullin, in the interview, was asked about past comments he made criticizing Gaetz, including when Mullin said, in a past clip, “We had all seen the videos he was showing on the House floor that all of us had walked away, of the girls that he had slept with,” adding, “this is the type of individual Matt Gaetz is.” It is not difficult to find a video of his statement which continues after the previous quote.
I am hesitant to say whether Matt Gaetz should be confirmed. I don’t trust the media, and many members of congress are not trustworthy either. We should allow the process to work, if it can, let the investigation show what it will (pray that all will be honest and not on their own agendas) and if he is guilty of accusations be blocked. We live in an age where President Trump was elected even with “34:felonies”, which of course most feel is bogus. I pray that integrity will come back to every position in our Government. I have to confess I doubt there is anyone who could have the integrity that we desire. Thank you Jesus for wiping our sins away!!
Give me a break. Yeah, right, its really difficult to find someone who is middle aged who has the level of integrity to not sleep with teenagers. Right.

Father, give our Senate wisdom in their voting for Trump’s cabinet. I pray there would be wise men and women who head these offices. We look to you and praise you.
Father we have been praying and asking that the cabinent members and teh advisers be men and women of God and that hey be like Daniel and Joseph, Father is this man and are the people who have been chosen already, people who would choose for the job. Can they handle the job? Will they glorify you and bless the country in what she needs right now? If not will you remove them from consideration? Put them to the side with a resounding answer so that we are all able to know your will. And for each man and women who was proposed for an important job in our government will you let pass through the gauntlet of hearings with ease, also showing that this is your will. Father conspiracies have been put forth about slipping these appointments in while the congress is out on recess. This takes the approval process away. Is this your plan Lord? If not then Father will you intercede? We know there are changes to be made and a different road to be taken today. You know the plans of men and you scoff. But we know that you have plans Lord, plans to bless us and not to harm us. Please let your plan for our country and for revival be the one that goes forward and let us stand firm in our faith. If we can’t see your hand let us trust your heart and not give in to fear. Amen
I cannot think of anyone less qualified. He was rebuked by Congress for involvement with a minor. He has been a gadfly, causing confusion at every turn with seemly no goal in mind other than confusion for the sake of confusion. He has no training as a lawyer and no background in the justice system or any experience with managing a large organization.
I am not an American and have only dug a little into this, so correct me if I am wrong or if Republican Anna Maria Luna is wrong in saying Gaetz has a law degree, but immediately entered politics without doing a legal traineeship. Apparently Gaetz has had some success in uncovering corruption?
However, the 3 charges against him are of a very serious and distasteful nature. I believe he has been under investigation by the House for nearly 3 years, yet to date, no evidence has been found and the legal case against him has been dropped. Apart from innocent until proven guilty and a fair trial is necessary for a conviction, I am mindful of two realities: expensive lawyers and friends in high places can make charges go away, but equally, the rise of ‘lawfare’. Also, I believe President- elect Trump to be more astute than to appoint someone who is a ticking time bomb of sleaze and corruption.
Therefore I am praying, wisdom and discernment for all the Trump Team and advisors, and that if Gaetz is indeed God’s choice for Attorney General, that all charges need to be proven beyond reasonable doubt to be unfounded and dismissed before he can be appointed . In Yeshua’s mighty name I pray.
What happened with the DOJ case against Gaetz is that he talked to the witness after charges were brought which could have brought obstruction charges against him. The DOJ dropped the case because they were concerned about the witness. They did not drop the charges because no evidence was found.
The House Ethics Committee was getting ready to issue a report on their findings against him when he suddenly resigned, supposedly to commit to this DOJ appointment. When someone resigns, the process callls for reports to not be issued, however, the Ethics Committee has said that the report will be available for discussions about his confirmation
I am not against the DOJ’s employees being reevaluated. I am against someone who has shown the lack of judgment that Gaetz has shown to be place over the DOJ.
Some of Trump’s other appointments are good. His pick for Secretary of State is good. But he needs to reconsider his picks for DOJ and the Secretary of Defense. The Secretary of Defense position needs to be reconsidered because we are likely to get into a confrontation with China, Russia, North Korea and Iran, and it could happen quickly. Yes, pick someone who can deal with the DEI issues, but he also needs to be someone who can advise the president on how to build up our military for a confrontation and the best strategies.
