I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we ask You to reveal to us where You are asking us to find our voice.  We ask for conviction, confidence, boldness and grace.  We pray that our churches would find their voice and we pray against fear and tradition.  We pray for a Church on fire!
Reading Time: 6 minutes

We the church (generally speaking, not as a whole) have remained voiceless in all modern day hot button issues. I believe NOW more than ever, is the time to RISE UP! Give voice to our passions, give voice to the Truth, give action to our compassion – truly to become the eyes, ears, hands and feet of Jesus.

And we are CALLED to walk as our Savior did – He didn’t just walk the walk, He talked the talk. Our culture often does the reverse – talks the talk, but doesn’t walk the walk – what about the Church? Have we lost our voice? My question is WHY? We all know it’s not because we don’t have a voice – it is used every Sunday in our church buildings (or during Covid, it is being broadcast weekly). But we align so deeply to the “separation of church and state” that we instead walk around “crippled” – believing “silence” is better than discord, believing “silence” is better than having a voice and rocking the boat. We want to be liked by everyone; we don’t for one second want to risk offending someone. And we wouldn’t want our churches filled with less people – because then we wouldn’t be “doing the work of the Gospel” (and often there is fear of giving going down).

The original intent by our founding fathers for the “separation of church and state” had a totally different meaning than the one the Church often holds to today:

Our forefathers never sought to evict the church from society. They recognized that the several states did not share uniform values. We lived and worshipped differently. The framers were a diverse bunch with wildly divergent opinions on many issues, but eliminating the very foundations of America’s heritage would have horrified them. On few issues was there more unanimity.

Americans understood freedom without morality quickly devolves into debauchery. Whether from sincere faith, or, prudence instilling an honest, law-abiding, responsible and hardworking populace, all esteemed biblical morality as the bedrock of self government. George Washington believed, “Religion and morality are indispensible supports” for “it is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible.”

– Bill Flax, “The True Meaning of Separation of Church and State”, Forbes

The Church should hold a prominent voice in culture.  And it should be a voice we are not afraid to use.   We often succumb to the lie that saying something that is counter-cultural will keep people from the Gospel.  Friends, the Gospel is offensive! It says there is ONLY one way – and that one way is by Jesus. And yet, sometimes we even forget to communicate the TRUTH behind why Jesus came – to save the lost. If we were once lost, we have to know what LOST means!

Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.  John 14:6 AMP

For this beloved son of mine was once dead, but now he’s alive again. Once he was lost, but now he is found!’ And everyone celebrated with overflowing joy. Luke 15:24 TPT™

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. Luke 15:4-7 NIV

…I only know one thing: I was blind, and now I see. John 9:25 VOICE

If we present the Truth of what it means to truly be lost – if we aren’t afraid to let people know that their eternal well-being hangs in the balance – if we aren’t afraid to “save” people – we would boldly and confidently draw others into the Kingdom.

Our entire culture is built around making sure people “feel good” – and certainly church isn’t the place to upset them! Why? IF we are to be the change agent in culture (do you believe that???), then our voice may very well not sound like the culture. Lukewarm would NEVER be the definition by which we would define the people in our church. Fire, passion, fervor…Ladies and gentlemen, we might very well come to be know as those “crazy Christians” rather than Christians without conviction – people who live in duplicity and compromise – people who say one thing but do another – hypocrites.

And THAT would draw people in!  Truly!  Who holds the most influence in our culture?  I don’t believe it is presently the Church.  It is the voices who are emboldened, convicted and motivated by their “truth” (even when it is the detriment of others, it still has a culture moving effect).  WE should be those voices – the TRUTH should speak louder than anything else!  Jesus is the name above all other names; it is at HIS name that every knee will bow (Philippians 2:9-11)!  And in HIS name, we have the power to demolish strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4), bring the darkness into the light (Acts 26:18), throw mountains into the sea (Mark 11:23), break chains (Psalm 107:13-16) and set captives free (Luke 4:18)!  We carry a Truth that changes everything!

Do not love the world [of sin that opposes God and His precepts], nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust and sensual craving of the flesh and the lust and longing of the eyes and the boastful pride of life [pretentious confidence in one’s resources or in the stability of earthly things]—these do not come from the Father, but are from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and with it its lusts [the shameful pursuits and ungodly longings]; but the one who does the will of God and carries out His purposes lives forever. 1 John 2:15-17 AMP

This is what the Lord says about these people:
“They come near to me with hollow words
and honor me superficially with their lips;
all the while their hearts run far away from me!
Their worship is nothing more than man-made rules. Isaiah 29:13 TPT™

If we were to be people who walked like Jesus and kept Truth at the forefront of our lives, people would say – ‘I may not like what _________ says and believes, but I also know she won’t lie to me. She will tell me what she truly thinks, she is straight up with me…’ Dangerous, unveiling – but safe.

Don’t our children feel safer when we they know what to expect at home, when we hold firm to the standard? Don’t they have greater faith in us when we ‘let our yes be yes our no be no’?

We think we are building this false sense of “safety” with our friends, with our neighbors, with our co-workers, with our family  (believe me when I say I am speaking to myself more than anyone else)… when we stay silent.

Can you imagine the “end of life” conversations if we stay this course? ‘I never knew you were a Christian. Why did you keep Jesus secret?  Why didn’t you tell me there was a “way”?  I was hopeless – why didn’t you tell me there was an answer?’

All that being said, we are also called to be men and women led by the Spirit. Sometimes though, this becomes code for “waiting for the PERFECT moment”, waiting for “all the stars to align”…we err on the side of never speaking for fear of “getting it wrong”.

Don’t I know this? I was born to be a peace keeper (don’t confuse this with when Jesus called us to be as “peace makers”). I was born into such a chaotic family environment that I “believed” that if I didn’t do the work to keep the peace, everything would fall apart. From my earliest memories, I was in the middle of marital discord (and later divorce), trying to stop the rage, the hate, the escalation….  I would do just about anything to not disrupt the peace, to avoid conflict or hard conversations at all costs.

This continued into my teen years and even into my marriage – believing somehow it was “my job” to keep the peace.  I have MANY stories of how this did not protect me, no matter how determined I was to get all things right!

In my forties now, I am having to learn to “undo” (with God’s gracious intervention and gentle prodding) all those years of “coping”. And I am learning how to live as a woman whose ear is in increasing measure given over to hearing the voice of my Shepherd.

And the sheep recognize the voice of the true Shepherd, for he calls his own by name and leads them out, for they belong to him. 4 And when he has brought out all his sheep, he walks ahead of them and they will follow him, for they are familiar with his voice. . . .  And I, their shepherd, must lead them too, and they will follow me and listen to my voice. . . . My own sheep will hear my voice and I know each one, and they will follow me.

John 10:1-16, 25-27 TPT™

What about you?  Are you using your voice?  Where are you afraid?  Where have you bought into the lies?

Have you considered that conviction and lively boldly is more attractive than simply “playing nice”?

I encourage you to  sit before the Lord today and bring those fears that have been stirred up – lay them at His feet.  Ask Him to reveal to You where He is asking you to find your voice.  Ask for conviction, confidence, boldness and grace.  Pray that our churches would find their voice – pray against fear and tradition.  Pray for a Church on fire!

GREAT article! I think we are so often afraid to be The Church. If there was ever a time to stand and be The Church it is now. Thank you for your encouragement.

We should also pray that Christians get free from the shackles of Political Correctness that have kept the Church bound for a couple decades now. Also hiding behind “Thou shalt not judge” so they can fence sit and not call out sin because they used as an excuse “I’m not supposed to judge anyone” and allowing the world to use that same line on Christians and Christians just go along with it and keep quiet. Jesus said to judge and judge rightly (John 7:24) and I don’t know if it applies to all this but people say that God never said to judge but it seems He did through Jesus. We do not as Christians decide a person’s final outcome of heaven or hell, only God does, but we DO need to warn people about sin and Christians are not doing that because they are afraid and again using the “Do not judge” scripture to help themselves have an excuse keep quiet. Pastors that we like to quote from 100+ years ago were very brave about preaching and calling sin what it is which is sin. So what changed? We know the answer. Lets pray for a spirit of boldness from God and to be guided by God’s love to see the bigger picture and speak out the truth. We can’t “speak to the culture” unless we speak in truth. So in truth I say that we need to pray and ask God to unmask the spirit behind Political Correctness and then ask God for the prayers to pray about it and also prayers guided by the Holy Spirit that would set our culture and the people free from this lying PC spirit ,and the spirit of fear, and that we can “speak to the culture” in truth and God’s love to unstopped ears and unbound hearts and seeing eyes.

“At Pentecost God set the church at Jerusalem on fire and the whole city came to see it burn.” (Author unknown)
As the body of Christ are our eyes fixed on Jesus or our own interests? Are we thirsty? Are we willing to pay the price of absolute surrender? Are we aware of our own desperate need? Do we have a hunger in our heart? God is waiting for consecrated and prepared people and then He, Himself, will do wonders among us. Amen

The Pilgrims who came across the Atlantic Ocean in a wooden ship were not sitting below deck telling each other “Stay Safe”. They were willing to risk their families and their lives in order to be free to worship God.
They knew there was something more important than their personal well-being.
Christians, of all people, should not fear death. We have a glorious future. Do we believe Jesus was telling the truth when He said “I go to prepare a place for you so that where I am you will be with me always”?
However, we are beginning to understand what freedom really means and its value. Also, we are getting a sense of the disgust the American colonists had for the King of England and that government.
The Founding Fathers would be outraged at what Americans are tolerating today. They pledged “their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor“ to secure the blessings of liberty for their posterity.
And many of them did lose their lives and their fortunes but it was a choice and a belief that there was something more important than their personal well-being.
They certainly weren’t sitting around saying “Stay Safe“ to each other when they signed the Declaration of Independence.

In the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, Father God, open our minds to Your truth and give us courage and faith and wisdom to act on that truth. Give us grace to discard the spirit of fear.
Amen.

I am no angel! I am a simple welder that tried to do my job the best I could. When I became an Inspector I found myself crying in the wilderness! All alone and confused. I have always believed in Jesus and tried to be like him. But I have never even gotten close.
You are right, we need to walk the walk and talk the talk. But we need a loud voice of many people that will stand together and I am not sure I have the strength to do that!

ASK The LORD to fill you with HIS HOLY Spirit, Gary. It is Christ in us the hope of glory. None of us can live the Christian life. JESUS said, “Without ME you can do nothing.” That’s why we are urged to pray for His grace, His power, His wisdom and His understanding. And, why we are urged to read the Bible every day asking GOD to help us know and live according to HIS will. Follow these instructions and you will begin to see victory in every area of your life. GOD will strengthen you to do whatever HE tells you to do. Don’t follow the crowd; GOD has a special path just for YOU! Ask GOD to speak to your heart and show You what HE wants YOU to do. GOD BLESS YOU!

May we grow where we are planted. Transformation from the ‘old man’s to the ‘new man’ only takes place when we listen to Him.

“This is My Son, LISTEN TO HIM!”

Though none go with me, still I will follow! No turning back!

Praying for shepherds after His heart who will risk their lives for the sheep. Praying for David’s soldiers – I Samuel 22 – distressed, broke, discontented. I’m discontented with the quality of pastors.

“The fervent prayer of a righteous man accomplishes much.”

“If I regard iniquity in my heart The Lord will not hear me.”

We can talk with GOD until the cows come home but if we refuse to deal with the sin in our own personal lives, the scripture tells us that The Lord will not hear us.

“MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER.”

Is your church a House of Prayer?

How many churches do you know that hold a weekly prayer meeting? I surveyed a large area and found none!

That is where the problem lies and that is where repentance needs to begin.

The voice we all need so desperately to hear is the VOICE OF GOD.

IF MY people which are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray AND turn from THEIR wicked ways . .

Obedience to the clear teaching of scripture brings GOD on the scene.

We need to repent of the sin of prayerlessness and ask GOD’s forgiveness and be willing to give prayer its proper place in our churches.

HE’s calling YOU today–Hear what HE has to say.

Keith – those as such powerful words you have shared. I pray for you -Lord, here is a person who recognizes the call and seeks to follow. Pour out Your grace upon him. Send “clues”, signals, affirmations, encouragements so that he is confirmed and strengthened in this resolve. Amen. And Keith, please pray for me. I have been through this process in the last several months. I KNOW what I am supposed to do. And God has blessed me with provision to proceed. Now I need strengthening in resolve, discipline, perseverance that I will actually do what I know I am called to do. Oh Father! This flesh is so heavy, so cumbersome sometimes. Let it die that I might live!

I believe the Lord puts adversity before us to strengthen our walk with him. Those adversities are only to make us stronger. So everytime you fall..get up ..dust your knees and press forward. Our heavenly Father is with us every step of the way. I struggle less because of that promise God made to keep pressing forward and dont give up.

We are to be world changers and cultural influencers. The church must live loud now more than ever, for many are trying to silence our voices. We must proclaim the good news, for the kingdom is indeeed at hand and the return of the Lord is close. Make peace with you neighbors by sharing the truth not keeping a false peace by going along with ungodly ways. Love people enough to be the voice of truth in a respectful but clear way. Father emboldened us to be strong and courageous for we must take the land to live the life you have for us.

I too was a peacekeeper and co-dependant, always trying to “fix” everything and for the same reasons..a lot of conflict in the home between my parents so I vowed I would NEVER have a marriage like that!
Unfortunately my husband did not have the same convictions and the marriage ended after 24 years as I stopped being co-dependant .
It was a good thing for me but people (family on both sides) turned on me.
I am way more bold and I stand up for myself and The Lord.
Some family think I am a fenatic but no, I just am in love with Jesus as He saved my life.
Many on one side are Christians but their church is more of a social club.
God has helped me through all of these changes and I stand strong for Him and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I do encounter backlash as God has given me the ministry of intercession and the enemy hates that but to have Jesus and freedom is such a beautiful thing.
