A federal judge has blocked the U.S. Postal Service from enforcing part of President Trump’s election integrity executive order, preventing new requirements for states seeking to use the mail to distribute ballots. The ruling is the latest in a series of legal challenges facing the administration’s efforts to strengthen election security ahead of future federal elections.

Pray for your fellow intercessor.

From Fox News:

President Donald Trump had ordered the Postal Service to transmit ballots for states only if those states first provided a list of mail-in voters, among other requirements. The ruling from U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan blocks the Postal Service from implementing the order nationwide.

Sullivan argued that the order would violate the settlement agreement in an earlier 2020 lawsuit between the Postal Service and the NAACP. That agreement allowed the courts to oversee the Postal Service’s actions relating to the “monitoring and timely delivery of Election Mail.”

Sullivan’s order comes after a previous case saw nearly 25 states challenge Trump’s order earlier this year. Those states were successful in blocking the Postal Service from carrying out the order in their states, but Sullivan’s ruling extends nationwide.

President Trump signed Executive Order 14248 in March as part of a broader push to restore confidence in America’s elections. The order included several provisions aimed at tightening election procedures, including directing the creation of a federal voter registration list, strengthening proof-of-citizenship requirements, and establishing new standards for states using mail-in voting. Administration officials argued these measures would help reduce opportunities for fraud and ensure that only eligible voters cast ballots.

The executive order has faced multiple legal challenges from Democrat-led states, voting rights organizations, and other groups. Critics contend that election administration is primarily a state responsibility and argue that the federal government exceeded its authority. Supporters of the order counter that the Constitution gives Congress and the federal government significant authority over federal elections and that stronger safeguards are necessary to protect election integrity.

Last week, another federal judge temporarily blocked a separate provision of the order that sought to prevent noncitizens from registering to vote or voting in federal elections. Despite the setbacks, the White House has vowed to continue defending the executive order in court. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson stated that President Trump remains committed to ensuring Americans have confidence in the nation’s elections and expressed confidence that the administration will ultimately prevail.

The continued legal battles underscore the ongoing national debate over election security and the proper balance of authority between the federal government and the states. As these cases move through the courts, the decisions could shape how future federal elections are conducted and what safeguards are permissible under existing law. These developments serve as a reminder to pray that truth, justice, and integrity would prevail throughout every aspect of the electoral process.
