We know that the epic battle between life and death depicts the difference between the very essence of God and the enemy. Jesus doesn’t just bring LIFE, He is LIFE (John 14:6). Conversely, the enemy is the one who comes to steal, KILL, and destroy. There are few social issues that exemplify this battle more than abortion.
The fact that every person is created with an unalienable right to LIFE is not true simply because the Declaration of Independence declares it to be. It is in fact a universal truth. From the very moment of creation, we as unique individuals are all possessed with a right that can neither be relinquished nor taken, the right to LIVE! Psalm 139 is a beautiful depiction of God’s heart for us even as we are being formed in secret. He numbers our days before the first one begins. The purpose and function of government is to secure our God-given rights, the right to LIFE being the first and most indispensable.
The Strange Connection between Abortion and a Small Town in Texas
With those basic principles firmly established, I want to tell you a tale of the City of Athens. No, not Athens, Greece, but a little country town in Texas. As someone aware of the heinous history behind the rise of abortion in the United States, I thought I knew its roots. Most know the names Norma McCorvey, Dr. Nathanson, and District Attorney Henry Wade; we know the facts surrounding the initial case filed in Dallas County and the infamous and poorly reasoned ruling of Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973. But how many know about Dr. Curtis Boyd or his abortion clinic in Athens, Texas?
Illegal Christian Abortions?
Before the events culminating in Roe took place in the metropolis of Dallas, in a medical clinic hidden away in a sleepy country town of Athens, Texas, Dr. Curtis Boyd illegally performed abortions on women from around the country. Even more shocking, this doctor spoke of his Christian roots, of having loved the Bible as “God’s truth revealed,” and of his grandmother, Mama Boyd, declaring to him that he “was a Prophet, called by God to a special service.” This same grandmother, years before, performed illegal abortions herself while acting as a midwife in this same community.
Clearly this family operated under the deception that taking innocent life was a blessing, not a curse. While Dr. Boyd later became a humanist, he described the early abortions as occasioned by his work with “Clergy Consultation for Problem Pregnancy.” Chaplains and ministers referred women to him to kill their unborn babies, the very babies the Bible says are fearfully and wonderfully made. These are shocking roots, exposing the history of abortion in America in a rural, Christian community in Texas, encouraged at the behest of ministers, and lauded as a special service to God!
Athens, Texas and Abortion Today
Fast forward to today, it must be more than coincidental that the roots of this battle are still raging in the exact same geographic location and still by those who declare themselves to be Christians. Texas’ historic passage of the Heartbeat Bill is nothing less than an answer to prayer for everyone who has ever prayed for an end to this heinous crime against humanity. In response, numerous communities across Texas have been adopting ordinances outlawing abortions within their city limits and establishing sanctuary cities for the defenseless unborn. While the majority of constituents of the town of Athens would welcome the opportunity to support such an effort, in an unlikely twist of events, its scripture-citing mayor and the city council have refused to place this ordinance on the agenda for a vote.
Her reasons, emailed in response to a constituent inquiry focus on the redundancy of a sanctuary city designation: “The state of Texas already has a law in place which mirrors the proposed ordinance, making the proposed ordinance redundant.” She also expresses confidence in the legal advice of a city attorney who unabashedly refuses to align with the legislation both signed by Governor Abbott and supported by Attorney General Paxton. The mayor, following the advice of the city attorney (the mayor has just renewed his contract) and the TML (Texas Municipal League – a private corporation in Austin, Texas), stands in direct opposition to state law, an AG Opinion, and even the will of her constituents.
This is not taking place in a liberal, urban area. Athens is a conservative, Christian town in rural Texas, with a mayor who presents herself as a Christian conservative. We cannot know the motivation of the mayor. But we do know she and the city council stand in the way of Athens becoming a sanctuary city for the unborn.
This article is a call to prayer for her (Toni Clay), a call to prayer for the people of the city of Athens, and most importantly a call to prayer for an end to this epic battle that is still waging for the lives of the unborn.
For those who may be curious why I would spend so much time detailing and praying over one tiny city ordinance, please put the significance of this vote in the context of the bigger picture. Of all the towns in the United States that need to take a public stand against abortion, the tiny town of Athens holds a unique place. History makes it apparent that the spirit of death through abortion that has polluted our nation for over half a century has its roots in this tiny town of Athens, Texas. A town whose namesake, the goddess Athena born without a mother, has exemplified the spirit of demeaning motherhood as being totally dispensable. This battle that is raging is a spiritual one, and whether the players in this game are aware or oblivious of their roles, they are nonetheless playing their parts down to the wire.
It is time for the axe to be laid to the root of abortion in America. Those roots have finally been exposed and laid bare. Redeeming the blood-soaked ground of Athens, Texas through worship and prayer, and claiming it for the purposes of God is the mission of a NIGHT FOR LIFE* Let us converge on the town of Athens spiritually and/or physically to worship and pray for an end to this spirit of death. We pray that the spirit of abortion must bow its knee to the name above all names, the name of the one who himself is LIFE!

Children are a gift from God. The Lord Jesus love children, we should not mistread them or end their lives because God is the giver of life and we women have the privilege to carry life. We need to remember that God thought we were very important and we are here for a purpose and a reason. Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well…”
Pray that God will bring light to the darkness and people will see and know truth.
We should know this. Abortion is of Satan. Just as every evil that is in our world. We, as the Body of Christ, are putting too much energy into politics. Sure, it has it’s place, but… “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God.” AMEN.
Truly shocking. They can claim to be Christian’s but still spend eternity frying in Hell. I am not going to trust any smiling face that calls itself a Christian. Especially if he or she is a murderer actually destined for eternal damnation.

It strikes my heart daily how Patient our loving Holy Father is, that after 49 years of this sanctioned murder- our compromised Republic has not been destroyed. I can only assume that it is the prayers of the Saints that has held Divine Judgment in abeyance.

The true believers that are filled with the Holy Spirit have the power to break this evil. I am praying that “wicked” women who are only going to end up on thee abortion clinic table – as i did April 16, 1987 – i am praying that God make their womb barren. We understand from Psalm 139 that God knows what we’re thinking before we think it. I am praying that God make their womb barren and then they will not be going to Planned Parenthood to get an Abortion because they won’t be Pregnant. Respectfully, birth control is great for married people. However, unmarried people need self control, not birth control.
This RN has taught for years, to educate people to make informed choices, no birth control is 100%, not even vasectomies, as my friend who fathered 3 after his vas can attest!
We Christians can educate on birth control, but we need to remember we will stand before Almighty God one day to give account for our words, so count the cost of not speaking truth, and speaking part truth without love…cause it could be a teeny, tiny person.

Athens, Texas, and the people mentioned, is not the only Christian small town with a history of or present day activity of deceived believers participating in abortions. If every state would search out their own history we could redeem the blood-soaked land in every state all across our nation with the Blood of the Lamb.

This is an excellent article and I praise the revelation of God that is given to the author. Athens is a portal city, even its name. It became a portal of deception in its medical mountain and now, in the governmental mountain. I believe this is a STRATEGY from the Lord. A prayer strategy. Father, we declare and decree that every word curse, every illegal action committed by this “christian doctor” to be uprooted and cleansed, augmented by the Blood and Word of the LIVING GOD. Nehemiah 13:4-5, Eliashib had given a room in the Temple to Tobiah. Lord we declare a cleansing of Athens, we repent on behalf of this doctor who acted as a priest and “gave room” to the enemy to come in. We declare this covenant of death to be nulled, voided and canceled by the Blood of Jesus. We declare life over Athens and invoke the Presence of the Living God, building an alter in its place. The present impotence of the Church in America, I assert, can be directly attributed to the quiet assimilation of eugenic, racist, and classist ideologies in the mainline denominations during the 1930’s. Like Balaam’s poison, the Church ingested death in the name of the “good,” and so brought upon itself a legacy of corruption leading to irrelevance in social and political matters. It ceased to be the conscience of the nation when it ingested the poisonous thinking of the “quality of life” argument.

There are no abortions that don’t have blood spilled. God had a plan and purpose for each child and we have no idea how many good things were delayed because the child carrying the skills, talents, creativity to make those things happen was aborted by the hands of man. Pray that God speaks to all the Justices of the Supreme Court through dreams, visitations, through a preacher, rabbi or friend.

We’re losing our blessings & heaping curses on ourselves, society doesn’t want children to live, and the lack of understanding is grave. 2 Timothy 3:2 says that in the last days, ‘people will be lovers of themselves.’ While trying to adopt, at least three young, pregnant women debating what to do about their unwanted pregnancies told me they would rather kill their baby than let someone else raise it. This selfishness vexed my spirit. People with power and influence are calling evil good, abortion as a stepping stone to climbing a ladder of success, a good thing to do to spare the world of another carbon footprint in delusional efforts to save a planet from climate change. Every day I pray that people’s eyes would open to abortion as having allowed the devil to gain a foothold and now, burst through the door. PP isn’t just a temple of child sacrifice, but a powerful political entity, funding campaigns of more pro-abortion candidates. They sell parts of babies to universities for all kinds of depraved experimentation and human/animal hybrids. California just passed a bill to decriminalize the killing by any means–shaking, drowning, starving babies up to 4 weeks after birth. And yet, on a recent Christian retreat, I listened to young, Christian women support choice. While we may win battles in this spiritual war against life, and I believe many people will continue to be saved, prophetically speaking, I don’t see a great and mighty revival of the majority of the country getting on their faces and repenting of the 70million barbaric deaths we’ve caused as well as exporting baby killing across the globe. I do believe in praying for revival though, will continue to ask the Lord for it, and while we may see pockets of revival throughout the nation and globe, hundreds of millions united against the disregard for human life? I fear, not.

This is ,in my opinion , is an excellent article and so true that the fight against abortion is a spiritual battle in the heavenlies. Our enemies are principalities, powers, and thrones, and dominions and I believe that abortion is a sacrifice to those other gods (the fallen angels) . Many people make “lies their refuge and falsehoods their covering”. The Lord says, “My people listen to lies”. May God’s people not participate by believing lies and may the precious Holy Spirit lead us into all truth. The truth is that “Children are a blessing of the Lord.”We are so thankful for the six children here that God blessed us with and the four in Heaven that were miscarried. Each one had a unique and special purpose in the sovereign grace of our loving Lord and we are thankful for each one. Lord, I ask You to rebuke the spirits of witchcraft and of leviathan that hover over the town of Athens, Tx. Lord, these are lying and evil spirits that have devoured the truth in this town. Life is such a gift from God and yet I have never imagined nor seen so many people so eager to terminate it even before having a chance to take a first breath out of the womb and even worse being proposed until 28 days after birth. Who can even think of such cruel, horrific things and even approved by many leaders. It is heartbreaking to even think it is possible. It is demonic and these people eyes are truly blinded. I often find myself praying the words of the prophet Habakkuk. Lord in wrath remember mercy. I wonder how much longer the Lord will extend His mercy and yet I will keep on praying 🙏

The link is kind of odd, maybe it’s just not a mainstream source.. and suspect in my thinking- as to its origins..electronically-,so I do not want to have any more ties to any more electronic Pathways than necessary. Please do not take this as any type of a reflection upon you.

Don’t blame the folks at Athens, TX for being the root of abortion. Put the blame on the vast majority of Christ-followers in America, including myself in the past. Why do people have abortions? Is their primary desire to kill an unborn little boy or girl? Of course not. They just follow our culture’s values that sex is good, while having a child not always so good. What do we Christians do in our marriages? Essentially agree that sex is good but having a child as a result of the sex not so good. So we take deliberate steps to have sex, but not have a child conceived. In other words, we have the same “pro-abortion” motivation: sex but no child. We produce the same result: no child born in our world. We just employ a different MEANS of accomplishing the same goal. Didn’t Jesus say that hate is the moral equivalent of murder, and lust the moral equivalent of adultery? Well loving sex, but taking steps to not let it produce a child is the moral equivalent of abortion. WE need to repent for abortion being in our land and be open to the children God wants to produce through us for His glory and to impact our world with people created in His image.

All are Christians. Jesus had four brothers and “sisters” at least two… so he came from a family of at least 7 siblings, again blessings all.
