I Prayed have prayed
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Recently, I woke up troubled. I hadn’t slept well-why? I was thinking about the celebrity transgender kid who got into Harvard-18 years old and has already had a full sex reassignment surgery. I was grieved by this young man’s identity crisis and that it is a trend across the nation and also among my children’s classmates.

So I asked the Lord, “What can I pray? How do I approach this?”

I’m reading Mark and in the passage that morning Jesus is just starting his ministry – baptism, temptation, calling the apostles, casting out demons, healing the sick.

The devotional in the Message says that baptism is when we give witness that God who calls Jesus beloved child calls me that too. “Baptism, not biology, tells us who we really are.” The Father spoke as the Spirit descended on Jesus: “You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life.”

And I realized that we all have an identity crisis. Every. One. Of. Us. Adam was formed in the image of God (Genesis 5:1) but Seth was made in the image of Adam (Genesis 5:3). This is an identity crisis. When we receive Jesus, the identity crisis is settled. Baptism is my declaration that, like Jesus, I am the beloved child of God-that’s who I really am. (I am not saying that baptism is required for salvation, but that it is a picture of what salvation does and is.)

Like many things, we then walk out that truth. We forget who we really are and we may need to be reminded. If that’s where you are, please watch this 7 minute video and take the time to remember that you are a beloved child of a Mighty King.

As Reinhart Bonke said once, Jesus taught us that the image of God is upon us & we are to “give God what is God’” and that is us !

This is amazing! What a powerfully effective way to teach and impart and receive the TRUTH about our identity as children of the Most High God! Thank you so much for sharing this!

As it was in the Garden of Eden, the identities of Adam and Eve,

were completed and well defined by the resident Holy Spirit; which dwells in believers in Christ. This restores what God intended: his children as his living temple with their sacrifice of prayer and praise. Without the Holy Spirit, we are the image of man and not the image of God. But thanks be to God for the sacrifice of his Son to restore our identities and our relations with the Creator. Lord your plan is indescribably beautiful.
