The Episcopal bishop of Washington, D.C., who criticized President Donald Trump after he held a Bible aloft at a photo op at a historic church in her diocese, is among the diverse group of faith leaders selected by Democrats to speak at their presidential nominating convention.
Bishop Mariann Budde will deliver the benediction on Tuesday, the second night of the convention, according to a list shared with The Associated Press on Sunday before its public release. The convention will be almost entirely virtual, with online video addresses.
Editor’s Note: Biden is expected to accept the nomination on Thursday.
Budde was outspoken in her criticism of Trump for staging the June 1 visit to the historic St. John’s Church across from the White House, where he held up a Bible after authorities had cleared the area of people protesting peacefully against racial injustice. “He took the symbols sacred to our tradition and stood in front of a house of prayer in full expectation that would be a celebratory moment,” Budde said in an interview after Trump’s walk from the White House.
Other faith leaders scheduled to speak include the Rev. Gabriel Salguero, the Florida-based pastor who founded the National Latino Evangelical Coalition; Jerry Young of the Mississippi-based New Hope Baptist Church; Archbishop Elpidophoros, leader of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America; and Rabbi Lauren Berkun, vice president of the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. . . .
Berkun is one of four faith leaders from three religious traditions who are scheduled to speak on Thursday, the convention’s final day. The party also planned an interfaith service on Sunday.
Also set to speak on Thursday are Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of the advocacy group NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice and a longtime Biden ally dating to the push to pass President Barack Obama’s health care plan; the Rev. James Martin, a Jesuit priest and editor at large of the Jesuit magazine America; and Imam Al-Hajj Talib ’Abdur-Rashid, a Muslim social justice activist who leads the New York-based Mosque of Islamic Brotherhood.

We are praying that God Almighty will open your eyes to the mistruths that abound in the Catholic Church and Muslim teachings ! These teachings do not reflect true Christianity. There’s is only one Savior- that is Jesus Christ the only incarnate Son of God -not the Pope nor the Islam god Muhammad. There is one Intercessor – Jesus Christ the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world. Any other means of reaching Heaven is called idolatry. We pray that your eyes will be opened by the Holy Spirit of God and you will come to know the Redeemer – Jesus Christ and Him crucified for all our sins. This statement is an invitation to Life as the wages of sin s death but, the gift of God is Life eternal. All are invited to receive Him.
Just because you have a religious title before your name doesn’t mean you are a Christian. That’s all I can say.
When is the body of Christ going to challenge these liberal “ministers” and call them out for what the Bible says that they are, False Prophets!

Dear Mr. Camp,
Thank you for reaching out to me to share your views opposing abortion.
While we disagree on this issue, I sincerely hope we can consider each other’s views with compassion and empathy. As an American, I cherish the rights embedded in our Constitution, including a woman’s right to make the decisions that are best for her and her family.
One issue on which I hope we can agree is the need for women and their partners to have access to information that allows them to make appropriate decisions about whether to start a family. For that reason, I have and will continue to support robust funding for the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, an evidenced-based program that provides young people with medically accurate and age-appropriate information to support their healthy development. The program has helped drive a dramatic decline in teen pregnancies. Since 2010, pregnancy rates among girls ages 15-to-19 have declined by 41 percent nationwide—more than double the decline in any other six year period since rates peaked in 1991—and is at an historic low.
I appreciate you sharing your views. Our nation is better off for having a civil, informed discourse, and it is a healthy democracy that preserves space to air our differences. Sorry, Kamala, but we definitely disagree on this. Do any of your programs teach abstinence as a method of preventing pregnancy, or do you just assume all girls will have sex before they are 20? Do any of your programs advocate adoption instead of abortion??
This letter from Ms Harris is nothing but a slap in the face to Christians.
Something for everyone. A smorgasbord. A form of religion denying the power of the name of Jesus and His Word.
I am praying that all will have a personal encounter with the Living Word, Jesus Christ the lover of their souls.
Let us pray that those in the Body of Christ would not be deceived by these “faith leaders” the devil is using to carry out his agenda. Remember what the Word says about the AntiChrist spirit that dwells among us (2 Thess. 2:3-12; 2 John 1:7). There will be those who listen whose hearts will be turned because they are already entertaining darkness and are straddling the fence. For those walking in the light, we are to pray that they be delivered from the darkness. The False Prophet when he comes on the scene will easily be accepted by those who were deceived. Let’s continue to use the power given to us through prayer and supplication to break the arm of the enemy.

As a Catholic, I am both very sad that these people are so mistaken about God’s will, and angry that they are so ignorant and in line with the Marxist ideology, instead of what they should know from studies of St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. They are an embarrassment to not only the true Catholic faith, but to all Christians who live according to God’s word. But Jesus says to pray for those who persecute us. So, I pray that the Holy Spirit will convict them of what is false and enlighten them to the Truth. That they will repent and recognize the Way, the Truth and the Life that comes from Jesus and His holy word.

Dear Father, I pray You bind the spirits of deception, perversion, witchcraft, hatred, jealousy, greed, and fear over this convention. I pray that as these people speak, that the power of the Holy Spirit would convict them every time a lie is spoken. Dear Father I pray this vale of deception be broken. I ask that an awakening would occur, starting from the very top of this party. I pray the eyes of the leadership would be opened and truth be acknowledged. May a heaviness come upon them that can only be lifted through confession. Oh Lord, break this bondage over our country. No longer shall good be called evil and evil be called good. No longer shall this false ideology divide our country and cause such division and chaos. Break this principality that has such control. I also pray that you show the American people watching, that there is no power in the lies spoken. Show them the folly of the their plans and platforms. Its important to remember that people can have faith in many things. I don’t mean that as a compliment but its just a statement. Some people have faith that government can solve all their problems and of course, true believers know that isn’t possible. They can help but only God can help us to that.
Some people have faith that they alone have the solutions to all problems. That personifies many godless people that work in government today. They actually think they have all the solutions and that they can do it without God. Ancient Rome was no different as were some other nations that eventually fell due to their own arrogance and “faith in themselves”.
The fact that the Democratic party has faith based leaders and is wearing it on their sleeve is a dead giveaway that they are pursuing people that they normally may not have. To put it bluntly, attracting votes from certain areas in our nation means “more power for the party. More power means more representation which in turn means more “control”. So all of sudden, the “advertising of faith based leaders” has taken a more front and center position (by design).
People can have faith in many things….but without an actual faith in a true and living God that is lived out day by day in actions, words that are kept as promises and conduct….it then qualifies as misplaced faith.

We know how God felt about the “religious people” when He walked the earth.
2 Timothy 3:1-4 – 1 But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, 4 traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!
I believe that the above sums up what is presently going on in today’s government with many people. Not all but many. Their god is politics. But one major party stands out far greater than the other when it comes to the rejection of God. They “want or court” the evangelical or religious vote but their voting record does NOT line up with the things that God treasures or has instructed us to do. To court the votes while DENYING the power of Christ….and at the same time, quoting scriptures or should we say a “portion of scripture” to back up the platform you believe in is in itself absolutely dangerous ground to be walking on.
If a political party really is supportive of God’s word and his commands, it shows up in how they vote. It shows up in policy. It shows up with follow up action with commitment to what was promised. There is no middle ground. We are either for God or against God & his commands. Loving those that say they love God while working against God and his people can be a challenge…but that is what God has commanded us to do. We must love them, pray for them and work to find unity. God will be in the midst of such work & efforts.
It does come down to this. First, we vote for those who have proven to uphold Christian conviction and who follow God’s command. We should be voting for those who have shown they will protect the most innocent of lives as well as the elderly. We vote for those who honor the Constitution of our nation – not try to create their own laws or morality. Many politicians who are consumed with what they are doing tend to forget about God….and it shows up in their actions. It eventually shows up in what they tell us. And it especially shows up in their “acting” – when they try to pass off being somebody they are not. For instance, stating that you will “pray for somebody or that they do pray for somebody” while in the meantime, they openly criticize, demean and do everything in their power to work against that same individual….that just shows us what is truly in the heart. And that is precisely what God is concerned about.
We cannot be afraid to call out wrongs or misleading others – it is in plain sight in front of us. Hypocrisy is rampant with many who profess to call themselves leaders. “Holding to a form of godliness but denying the power” of the true and living God has become epidemic in our nation.
May God bring people in all walks of life and especially in positions of leadership back to humility and serving God and the people. But for those who purposely work against God and His ways…we pray that even what they have will be taken away from them.

Could we be living out Matthew 3:12, with the winnowing fork in your hand, are we on the threshing floor, are you gathering the wheat unto your barn, and preparing to burn the chaff? If so, let us humbly Repent, Pray, Love, and Forgive, while there is still time to seek you.
I do not understand how any true follower of Jesus can support abortion which is the murder/slaughter of innocent babies, and extremely detrimental to the emotional and spiritual health of the mother. Reminiscent of the slaughter of the innocents in the Bible both in the period when Moses was born and Herod’s attempt to kill the child Jesus. Modern day abortion is blatant genocide, disproportionately aimed at babies of color. Romans 1:18-32 the genocide of the children of this country was the first accepted sin in my life time, the other sins that went through our courts were easy for Americans to accept. Mary, I also refer to abortion as child sacrifice and we know what has happened in the past to people who indulged in the practice. We must continue to cry out to the Lord in repentance of this evil.
I suspect that this is more show than reality. The Episcopal Church fell into apostasy long ago, when it embraced homosexuality. The Biden-Sanders “Unity” Plan has no mention of God in it. This will be the first time that the Democrats have omitted references to God in their Presidential Platform, but it has been trending that way since 2004. The clear embracing of unlimited abortion and the LGBTQ agenda is an affront to God.
But perhaps there are some legitimate Christians in this group. I pray they speak the Truth out loudly and clearly, and that there is major conviction and repentance among the attendees. We must have repentance across this land, in every church and across the America if the Lord is to heal our land.

Can you imagine what would happen if the True Church would come together on one accord and pray for this country? This is the same problem Paul addressed to the Corinthians. “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one; and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.” (1 Corinthians 3:3-8). Each man’s work is going to be tried by fire at the Judgment Seat of Christ. ALL THE GLORY BELONGS TO JESUS!!! BLESS HIS HOLY NAME!!!

I pray, LORD, have mercy on us and deliver us from every evil scheme of the wicked one, and from all false brethren
Father, You have warned us in your Word, “Be not deceived.”
The days are evil, LORD, help us to read and understand Your Word, and increase our sensitivity to Your Holy Spirit that we would not fall prey to the devil’s schemes.

I pray that God shows up with thunder and lightnings and brings a Fear of Him into this conclave. He sees no party affiliation or no denominational differences. He sees people in need of salvation and a change of heart. I pray that hearts and minds are opened and that they will see the injustice of abortion on demand and of applauding that which God has named an abomination. I pray there will be repentance and a cry to God for civility in our nation and for Him to be glorified. It is difficult to think that truth will come from a lineup of religious leaders such as these. My prayer will be that these leaders will know God’s truth by proclaiming His Word accurately and that the leaders come to a saving knowledge of Yeshua Messiah.

Amen. As a Catholic, I can tell you that most of us consider “Fr” James Martin and “Sr” Simone Campbell to be heretics. Martin is a Jesuit and the Jesuits have been putting their interpretation of social justice above God’s laws. Same with the fake nun Campbell. These 2 are a thorn in the side of the Catholic Church along with their followers such as Pelosi, Biden, etc.
That’s more the reason to pray for the people you mentioned above. We know their agenda isn’t a holy agenda. If we would pray more and criticize less, maybe they will come to Yeshua’s saving grace. My motto is: “He without sin cast the first stone. This has kept me from being so critical, which at one time I was and the Holy Spirit got a hold of me and changed my heart. To God Be The Glory!!
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for this country where we can speak our minds openly. WE pray that You would bring Truth into all discussions and presentations at this Convention. We pray that you will give all who listen and watch the ability to discern truth from untruth in every word and be guided in action by Truth. Confuse the enemy as he tries to deceive and let his efforts turn back on himself as You have done many times in the past.
Guide all who are followers of You repent of any ways not pleasing to You and be a light to all in the darkness as they lead in righteousness and Truth alone. Glorify yourself in all that happens at the Convention as in your mercy and grace you bless our country with Truth.

We ask you to confuse any lies and schemes of the enemy over this convention and that your truth will march forward! Open the eyes of our understanding and the understanding of all people in our nation and especially over the convention speakers. Do not allow them to curse America or our President. Protect all those seeking to protect the foundations of your truth over our beloved country. Place a special hedge of protection around President Trump and his family, Vice President Michael Pence and family, and all cabinet members and their families as many curses are being spoken against them. Will the Democratic leaders allow any “faith” leaders to speak against the murder of babies in and out of the womb? Otherwise this is hypocrisy and apostasy.
Helen, of course they won’t. That would be political suicide. I can’t imagine how many votes they would lose. But try as they might, they will still put on a show to attract the faithful (the ones being deceived).
There are many, many “wolves in sheep skins”. Do not be hoodwinked, the DNC -by it’s very nature- is “anti God”.
The Golden Calf and a ticklish ear is the god of the DNC.

Father God, some of us witness what really happened to this country since 2016, YOU placed President Trump as our President. The Democratic Party or the Left or I should say the Principalities who are against YOU from beginning HAD BEEN attacking thru LIE and MISLEADING information that have been spread by the Mainstream Media (CNN, MSNCB etc), therefore,
Father God, in Jesus’ name, I prayed for all the Christians or the people that were attending or listening to the DNC . Holy Spirit, OPEN the eye of their heart to see the Truth and to VOTE for YOUR VALUE. DO NOT ALLOW any other agenda cloud their mind.
Please Father, let the GRACE of CHRIST JESUS be upon the result of the DNC convention. Allow revival to take place in the heart of each member and attendee. It is not about us but it is all about YOU and what YOU want for America since its foundation.
Forgive all the sins that they have committed as they learned that they have been forgiven much.
Let America (DNC & RNC & Libertarian) be united in the name of Christ Jesus.
