These are the headlines for today, Friday, November 15, 2024

Trump’s recent appointment, Matt Gates, faces resistance from Republicans in the Senate for Attorney General confirmation. With an ongoing House Ethics investigation, questions of Gates’ eligibility have caused apprehensions among his party members. However, Trump could push for a recess appointment of Gates, so the Congressman could still assume his new role even without support from the Senate.

The Supreme Court is set to hear a case challenging a Tennessee law that bans doctors from performing transgender procedures on minors, potentially impacting transgender treatments across the nation. Critics argue that such laws restrict patients’ rights to medical interventions, while supporters emphasize the lack of substantial evidence supporting the benefits of these procedures for minors. As many countries move towards age restrictions on irreversible trans surgeries, the Supreme Court’s decision could affect legislation in states currently lacking such restrictions.

A U.S. District Judge has blocked Louisiana’s law mandating the portrayal of the Ten Commandments in public classrooms. Citing free exercise claims, Judge John W. deGravelles rejected the law as non-neutral towards religion. The American Civil Liberties Union, representing nine families affected, welcomed the decision.

Trump’s second term could significantly affect US energy, as the President-Elect has pledged to increase oil and gas production, as well as reduce green subsidies. His stance on the energy sector could impact crude oil and natural gas prices and change the landscape for solar and wind operations. However, experts suggest that market prices, not just policy, will likely dictate production volumes of gas and oil and the renewable energy sector’s growth.

Let’s pray about these issues. Holy God, we lift up all of Trump’s appointments, especially Matt Gaetz, before You. If it is Your will, Lord, we pray they will be confirmed. We also ask You to guide the Supreme Court as the justices hear the case next month about transgender treatments. We ask You to protect children from these irreversible treatments, and we pray for Your will to be done. Finally, Father, we ask You to keep Your word in schools, and we ask You to guide Trump as he seeks to restore American energy output to what it once was. We pray all this in Your name. Amen.
