I Prayed have prayed
Father God, give us Your heart for the next generation, and teach us how to pray for that generation effectively and righteously.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sobering statistics about Gen Z and Gen Alpha: screen time, news sources, gender and sexuality confusion, to name a few — America’s post-Christian generations need America’s intercessors to contend for them. What if the constant barrage of bad news about the next generation is a tactic to keep us hopeless and prayerless?

Over the past 18 months, IFA staff members have reviewed our archives as part of our 50th anniversary commemoration. This has been an enlightening process. Every month since the spring of 1974, IFA sent out prayer newsletters. One of the most common themes: concern for the next generation.

Newsletter articles from every decade since read as if they could have been written today: the breakdown of the family; fatherlessness; sexual immorality; a loss of confidence in government; the impact of television, movies, and other entertainment; education and miseducation.

And it’s not just these past 50 years in America. IFA collaborated with author Michelle Gallagher to distribute the excellent devotional, Monumental Prayers (available from IFA here). In this devotional, Michelle explains that the Pilgrims, too, were concerned about their children! Among the factors motivating them to risk their lives to start a new life on this side of the Atlantic were the worldly, negative influences their children were exposed to in Holland, where they had fled from England.

It seems that just as every generation of youth has been thus at risk, every generation of intercessors is thus called to pray for the generation following. At IFA’s 50th anniversary celebration, Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright (daughter of Anne Graham Lotz and granddaughter of Ruth and Billy Graham) gave an impassioned keynote for why and how we can intercede for the next generation and love them well. Drawing on how her grandparents loved her and reflecting on what teens are like today, she clearly expressed the call of God on our lives to pray for the next set of our nation’s leaders.

Be encouraged and equipped to pray like never before for our nation’s future. You can watch the webcast or call in to participate in prayer.

How reassuring to learn that every generation, way back to the Pilgriims , was concerned about their young people!!! That being said, prayers for each and every new generation are much needed and so very important. May we devotedly pray daily with concern and love for each one we know and then pray for each group of the young ones, including Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Their views and beliefs are not yet fully formed and they can be open to other and better ways. We can also work towards helping with Youth Groups or forming new Christian groups of neighborhood young people around a God-given interest of some sort. All of us all over this country following God’s will through prayer, as He gives us an assignment, have much power for changing and helping these precious young people, our HOPE for the future of this country and the world.

Oh Lord God Almighty 🙏, I pray for wisdom and hope for these Generation Z and Alpha. So much chaos and destruction within this world. The faith in Jesus Christ continues to fade in the process. As believers, we can be prayer warriors and plant seeds of faith where and when we can. It’s all about Christ!!

Yes, my wife and I taught and exhorted our children, but I believe that the big reason for their doing so very well in adult life is due to our faithful prayers for them and their children over their growing up days.

You are a redeeming God. Redeem the land, and teach us to redeem the time, because the days are evil. We pray for a mighty outpouring of Your Spirit, a “spirit of Elijah” that will turn the hearts of the children back to the Father. We praise You, Lord, because Gen Z belongs to Jesus! You are redeeming your sons and daughters, and they will prophesy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

There is SO much distraction from the enemy in today’s world. There is indeed an entire generation of youth at risk in our nation. We need to be lifting up our youths in prayer. We need to be salt and light to them, however Holy Spirit decides to guide us in this. Lord, I thank you for your guidance and direction over ALL generations of Your children. I thank You that You are so much greater than our enemy, especially that you are the true Source of life. I pray that the youth in this nation would receive powerful, life-changing revelation in the midst of all the worldly nonsense that has permeated our culture. Thank you, Jesus

Church in the basement young people worshipping and thank God for technology that gives us the ability to join with them. That’s just a few. There are many more of all generations together as one spiritually.

Oh Abba Father, our children and grandchildren are in dire need of Your truth, Your precepts, and to feel Your love, compassion, and care, You in their hearts. The evil one only wants to kill, steal, and destroy while You want to give life and give it to the full. Charles Spurgeon said, “Think upon how precious your soul is for the evil one and God both to be chasing after it.” Our children and grandchildren are so precious and dear to us and I lift them all up to you, Lord. As we minister to and speak truth in love, Holy Spirit please open their eyes to see, their ears to hear, their hearts to be convicted, to long for what all our Savior has for them, repent and turn to Him in surrender. I lift up the prodigals that have fallen away, to have experiences that bring back clarity and a deep desire to turn back to Christ and live for Him. The evil one has already been defeated and soon will not be on the prowl any longer. But until that time gives us strength for each new day to do the work you have called us to do – to share You and live for you – to be the salt and the light. In Your precious name we pray, Amen.

May the family members of each young person open discussions of faith and worldview, be good listeners, be a source of strength and encouragement and mentoring for them. In this way, may the younger generation have a calm port in the storm of our culture and a place to go to hear truth, be prayed for, and loved.

Father, I praise You and glorify You. You are love and light. There is no shadow of turning with You. Thank You that You love children of all ages. You see past whatever façade they are wearing. You look into the heart. You see the purpose for which each one was formed. Father, give m Your heart, Your love, for all young people. Thank You for what You are doing to save the children and bring them into the Kingdom of light. Amen.

I have just read this newsletter as my day at the office at church gets going. Like you, we are celebrating our 50th anniversary (Hosanna Church of Oxford Maine) in 2024. Our Intercession prayer team meets every Tuesday morning at 10. Today, I shall share this encouraging and motivating article about prayer for Gen. Z and Gen. Alpha. God bless AFA in the years to come, and God bless Hosanna Church and every church that still believes that Jesus Christ is Lord and is the only Savior for fallen humankind. May God send us true revival in every town and city across this land in 2024. -Praying with you! -pastor Eric J. Hanson on behalf of Hosanna Church.

…….but God💜🙏🏻💜

Faithful Father –
What a privilege it is to stand in the gap for this next generation! To pray without ceasing for my/our precious grand gifts and others that our relentless enemy wishes to destroy. May their precious lives be saturated with Your unfailing Love and Truth. Oh God, how we need You to draw them ever so close. Jn 6:44

Be encouraged prayer warriors – this new year started out with 55,000 young adults seeking and praising
JESUS @ the Passion Conference.

To God be all the glory & praise!!!

Yes indeed, as the classic prayer song from around 2000 pleads; “Open the eyes of my heart Lord, I want to see you…to see You high and lifted up, shining in the light of your Glory, pour out your power and love, as we sing holy, holy, holy!

Thank you for the information given in this article. It makes sense. Satan’s plan of attack is always to take out each generation. We only have to read Genesis to see he wasted no time tempting Eve/Adam, and Cain. There is nothing new under the “Son”. This article gives us encouragement and hope. Some times we get so “stuck on stupid” (the news), instead of remembering with God ALL things are possible!

Thank you for your prayers , my brother and were discussing this just yesterday. Jesus our Lord and Savior, may you open the eyes, hearts and minds of our next generation. They were not educated as we were and we were remiss in paying attention to their formal education! Please give our leaders and us the guidance and fortitude to make sweeping changes that would have been unheard of 15 year’s ago. Please help us deal with a corrupt government and find a way to expose our young people to right thinking. I pray we all become increasingly aware of this need for change and include you in how we do this . Thank you Lord for your love and guidance 🙏❤️
