I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we ask on behalf of our nation and its leaders that we would have courage to resist manipulation, pressure and the fear of man. Give them wisdom as they make this decision.

On Wednesday, Jan. 27, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) announced that he had introduced a bill to make the District of Columbia a state. In the U.S. Constitution, the District is described as the “Seat of the Government of the United States.”

. . . “Today, I’m proud to introduce #S51 to make D.C. the 51st state in our Union.”

In a statement on his website, Sen. Carper said, “Our nation’s capital is home to more than 700,000 Americans who, despite our nation’s founding mantra — ‘no taxation without representation’ — pay their share of taxes without full voting representation in either chamber of Congress. In fact, despite paying more in federal taxes per capita than citizens of any of the 50 states, D.C. residents have no say in how those taxes are actually spent.”

“This isn’t a Republican or Democratic issue; it’s an American issue because the lack of fair representation for D.C. residents is clearly inconsistent with the values on which this country was founded,” said the senator.

“It is therefore incumbent upon all of us who enjoy the right and the privilege of full voting rights and representation to take up the cause of our fellow citizens in the District of Columbia,” he added.  “We must use our voices to call out this historic injustice and right this wrong. I am hopeful that we can finally come together to do just that this Congress.” . . .

Vice President Kamala Harris, the tie-breaking vote in the (50-50 split) Senate, supports statehood for D.C., as does President Joe Biden. However, the legislative process for statehood is not easy.

In order to pass the bill, Democrats will need 60 votes in the Senate, which means they would have to persuade 10 Republicans to join them. They also would have to overcome a probable GOP filibuster of the legislation. . . .

Cato Institute constitutional scholar Roger Pilon has explained and testified before Congress about the difficulty of making D.C. a state and why it is unconstitutional.

In one of his articles on the subject, Pilon wrote, “Even if Congress had the power to do so, in a deeply divided nation, where a closely divided Senate determines ultimately who sits on a closely divided Supreme Court, few if any Republicans are going to vote to create a most unusual state from a district that has never elected anyone other than a Democrat to citywide office in an open election.”

“When an amendment to afford greater representation for the District was put before the nation in 1978, only sixteen states had signed on by the time the allotted period for ratification had concluded in 1985,” he added. “Outside the Beltway, there is little support for even that kind of change.”

Make DC a county of Maryland. As for Puerto Rico being a state, did you know that only 10% of the population speaks English? PR is not America. It is a foreign country that is held under US protection. Making it a state is preposterous.

Do not be fooled!! This is another power grab to try and insure a certain party dominance. Carper’s “snake oil” words are strictly lies. If they weren’t, then this bill would have surfaced decades ago.
Action points – call, email or write BOTH house and senate (yes there is a bill in each – both under #’s C51 and S51) and tell them emphatically NO to these bills. All info to contact your reps is easily available online. SECOND – notify others and ask them to do the same. NO action on our part = victory for those pushing this “secret agenda” legislation. I suggest repeated contact with all our reps… not just once!!!
PLEASE TAKE ACTION.

addition to the above – some legislators refer to the bill as “51 for 51”. Be sure that when calling or emailing them about the bill that you basically use language in expressing that you/we “OPPOSE any and all statehood for D.C.”. – period.
In addition, the Democrats want to try and make Puerto Rico a state so that they can again load up the Senate and cause it to be “democratic control forever”. As of this writing, I have not yet seen anything on that bill.

We may be deeply divided but I know who the “tie breaker” is and it is in HIM I trust. I read Jeremiah 5:22 this morning and it resonated a new prayer in me. I pray in the Name of Jesus, that none of “their” plans, strategies, agendas…actions would be allowed to move boundaries. Though they roar, they cannot prevail!

“Do you not fear Me? declares the LORD. Do you not tremble before Me, the One who set the sand as the boundary for the sea, an enduring barrier it cannot cross? The waves surge, but they cannot prevail. They roar but cannot cross it.”

If taxation without representation is the main issue of concern, make DC part of Maryland. Problem solved.

Politicians of a certain party are only playing politics as their goal is not representation, but 2 additional Democratic Senators.

These politicians will say anything, do anything, sacrifice anyone or anything to gain political power.
It’s not about the American people.
It’s not about what’s right or wrong.
And it’s not about respecting or honoring our history or our constitution. It’s about power.
And the ends justify the means in their world.
