As the number of COVID cases soars in Louisiana, state Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) is putting his faith in the power of prayer and fasting to slow the spread of the virus…
Edwards said he would pray for those impacted by the disease, the medical professionals working on the front lines and for the school system as the academic year begins…
In a July 16, 2020 press conference, Edwards asked all residents of the Pelican State to join him in three days of lunch fasting and prayer beginning July 20 through July 22.
He called for fasting and prayer for those who are sick, the caretakers, and for the families of those who have died from the coronavirus…

God can use anyone at anytime to call us to obedience. To pray and fast is obedience to the word of God. Especially in the times we live in.
From a political standpoint, I DON’T trust the governor. Too many fence walking decisions and policies. Too much political gamesmanship. God alone will judge his personal walk with the Almighty.
I tend to simplify the matter of where he stands. There have been, in history, pagan kings who respected and encouraged prayer, fasting or both. Even some of the most ungodly leaders have done that. I know nothing about Gov. Edwards personal or spiritual life. But if he claims to have a relationship with the one true God,my first challenge to him is “why are you representing the political party of death”? Why would someone even try to justify that?
Let us concentrate on praying to God for his mercy and removal of the virus. Let us also relentlessly pray that the real truth of this virus, it’s origin, the extremely high survival rate, etc. also sinks deep into the psyche of Americans. Then we can also pray that Gov. Edwards commits fully to serving Jesus Christ and the people.
I agree! Why would anyone belong to a Party that is for abortion and all the other abominable things they clearly have in their platform??! They aren’t hiding it! It’s beyond comprehension to me!
As counterintuitive as it may be, there is genuine and great joy to be found in fasting. ‘The Joy of Cooking’ was a monumental best seller over decades, so I took the liberty of declaring ‘The Joy of Fasting’ in this linked post years ago. The process of entrance and reward is definite and specific: 1) It IS a needed discipline, 2) That brings deliverance in profound ways, 3) And results in uncommon delight in the spirit.

Edwards is a conscious representative of the Democratic/Fools/Death Party. His actions of calling for prayer and fasting “no matter your religious belief” is NOT Judeo-Christian. His words and actions are NOT consistent with the Biblical Worldview and are in direct alignment with the Humanism that has invaded America’s Christian churches through cultural Christianity which is not Christian. Apostle Paul teaches you will be known as a Christ follower by faith (Rom. 3:22). James (brother of Christ Jesus) teaches your actions will prove you are a follower of Christ (James 2:14-19). No genuine believing Christian would call for pagans to pray and fast (God v gods). No genuine believing Christian would call for prayer and fasting while supporting the murder of unborn people on the backside. When testing the spirits, Edwards speaks from the source of an evil spirit and NOT the Holy Spirit (1 John 4:1). The Judeo-Christian faith WILL NOT be mocked. In conclusion: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (~Matthew, Mat. 7:21-23 KJV, 27AD) Only fools think they can manipulate God, His Word, and His children to their advantage. DearIFA- look at your intercessor contributor hello named Carol. And take heed of her advice- as she saw a picture of this governor without a mask in a public place period. Do not forget that masks are useless I can let us not give in to hysteria or religiosity..
It is great that people are praying.. I am a Christian and I pray- I pray that everyone would be healed -I pray that God would eradicate the virus – in the mighty name of Yeshua my Lord and Savior
…but let us not lose our sense, and give in to emotionalism or sensationalism
I am from Louisiana. Gov. Edwards plays a good game. Being at such a high level of authority, he knows the truth. Masks don’t work, yet there is currently a mask mandate across the state. The vaccine is experimental (for now), yet he promotes it as safe and effective. It is neither. He knows that. There has been a lottery, including two $1,000,000 dollar prizes, a number of scholarships, etc. to get people to get the jab. During the last mask mandate, he was photographed at a country club right up next to people without a mask. He says the hospitals are overwhelmed, but people we know who work in hospitals counter that claim. It appears he is revving up the fear again. Additionally. he is listed as one of the governors that is friendly to China. Louisiana’s politicians understand their constituency and know how to play to their culture.
Father I pray that You would reveal to Governor Edwards the truth in his words.That yes, You do answer prayer, yes, there is much to be said of fasting and praying. Reveal to him that with fasting and prayer comes revelation knowledge of who You are, righteous and Holy, Judge of the universe, convictor and revealer of sin so we may turn from our wickedness. We cannot stand in the enemies camp and side with doctrines of demons and then proclaim Your power to heal our land. Just as the 7 son’s of Sceva, attempted to do works in Jesus name, satan is laughing at this scene. Father I pray Holy Spirit reveal truth to this Governor, visit him in his night season and drop truth bombs into his heart so that he may repent and truly know who You are and why You have placed him in this seat of authority, then his words can and will be used for Your good and he will be a catalyst to lead in righteousness and bind the principalities and powers and the rulers of darkness that are reigning in high places over his state!! We thank You for answered prayer in the name that is above EVERY name!!! Jesus , be magnified and glorified today and every day for Your’s is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever 🙌Amen
I was so encouraged by this that I emailed our Governor to pray about doing the same. I believe he will see our email if God wants him to. Lord we pray for our state leaders to hear your voice in this hour. If you are calling them to take a stand that points to you, we know you will bless it. Your word says that where there is unity you command a blessing. We believe for you to move mightily in those states that are standing for truth, justice and righteousness. May the glory of the Lord fall on them for the world to see the God who cares and blesses our obedience.
Thank You, Lord, that you are speaking to Your prayer warriors. I lift up the state of Louisiana praying in agreement with prayer warriors who are called by Your name, who have humbled themselves and are seeking You in prayer, who have turned from their evil ways so that You will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal there land (2 Chron. 7:14). I pray that spirit filled Christian prayer warriors will surround Gov. John Bel Edwards and engage in spiritual warfare on his behalf, that his eyes and ears be opened and his heart be soften and the he received Your word of truth and Your values. Praying that JBE receive Your gift of salvation. Lord I pray in agreement for revival to come to the state of Louisiana and all of America. In Jesus name, Amen.
I am encouraged when a gov leader manifests understanding. But this leader mixes a holy sacrament, prayer and fasting, with a void of understanding (the entire dem party platform is focused on the opposite of biblical teaching). What good does his prayer and fasting do? God rejected fasting when it wasn’t mixed with righteousness (Isa 58). God has no pleasure in people depriving themselves of food (Isa 58:5), unless that deprivation sensitizes them to righteousness (Isa 58:6).
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, (Tit 1:16)
Father- we thank you that you are our mighty God, worthy of all glory, honor and praise. Lord, I thank you that this governor seeks prayer and fasting,. I would ask though Lord that you open his heart and mind to truly seek your wisdom and guidance in dealing with not only the virus but the evil that is being done all around him. That he and all of us would come before you with repentance and humbly allow you to change our hearts and our ways. That we would turn back to you, We cry out in vain Lord when there is no repentance, when we mouth words but have no change of heart.
We need you Father so very much…we need Jesus. We pray for total revival in this nation, for a movement of your power to sweep through America like we have never seen or experienced before. Let your Holy Spirit power move through the hearts of Americans…bring us back to you as a nation and individually. Your word says ‘Not by might, nor by power but by my spirit says the Lord Almighty’ Zechariah 4:6
