This past week we watched as the House of Representatives railroaded an impeachment inquiry against the President. While many of us feel like helpless spectators on the front row, our elected leaders are in the middle of a bloody fight.

I talked with Representative, Mike Bost (R-IL), who is a committed Christian serving in Congress. He is the man who has delivered encouraging, handwritten notes to President Trump. I asked him to share how intercessors can pray effectively for Congress right now and what he sees from the front lines.

Let your Representative in Congress know that you are praying
and where you stand on the impeachment inquiry.

Many of us didn’t see on Friday when Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA, House Minority Leader) motioned for the same rules of impeachment that had been followed in the past to be followed now. As the Democrats push the inquiry forward, the established rules have not been followed. On two separate occasions, McCarthy tried to bring the House members back to the rules of impeachment already on record, but House Speaker Pelosi refused and overruled the motion.

She overruled it, because she was not able to meet the requirements used in the past for the inquiry. In both the Nixon and Clinton impeachment hearings, the full House needed to authorize the inquiry. Pelosi moved forward without this. Why? Because it requires a majority of 218 votes for approval, which House leaders did not yet have as of Friday. Pelosi shut down the motion by McCarthy, ignoring impeachment rules.

Without skipping a beat, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) made a motion to table McCarthy’s request and silence any further demand to follow impeachment rules. The roll call vote followed partisan lines as Republican House members were shut down and overrun by their Democrat counterparts, who ran roughshod over the rules of impeachment.

“I live in Illinois and am used to the highly partisan liberal antics in our state,” Representative Bost stated. “But I have never seen such disrespect for the House Minority Leader on the House Floor as what I witnessed this week.”

“So how can we pray?” I asked as Congress enters a two-week recess. Here are the prayer requests from Representative Bost:

1. “That truth will be revealed and that followers of God can see the truth of what is happening and for what it is,” he requested. We need to pray that eyes will be opened and light will shine on the things being done in the dark.

Rep. Bost shared an example of how truth is being trampled. The mainstream media had extensively reported that one of the Republican representatives supported impeachment. However, contrary to the news report, the congressman clearly stated that he doesn’t! The reporter distorted his words in his interview. Even now, the media continues to report that he favors impeachment even as the congressman states it is erroneous.

It is imperative that we pray that the truth will be revealed and whatever has been hidden will be brought to light. We need to continue to pray that lies will be silenced and revealed for what they are.

A false witness will not go unpunished, and whoever pours out lies will not go free. (Prv 16:5)

 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. (Lk 8:17)

2. God’s will to be done.

“We know that God allows those who are not of Him to be confused. The Democrats’ lust for power is heavier than their responsibility to seek and operate in truth. That is it in a nutshell. They simply want to have a president they can control for their agenda,” Rep. Bost stated.

 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: “You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.” (Mt 13:14-15)

Ultimately, we know that God is in control. Let us continue to pray for His will to be done and His power and glory to be revealed.

3. Strength, Wisdom, and Direction

“During this recess, we have the opportunity to go back to our constituents in our districts and talk with them in meetings and one-on-one so that they can hear the truth,” Rep. Bost explained.

While we may think that this recess is “time off” that is hardly the case. These Republican representatives will be working hard during this recess to get the truth out which the media and Democrats are working hard to hide. Let us continue to pray for Rep. Bost and other representatives who are seeking truth, for their physical, mental, and emotional strength and wisdom.

4. Protection

As our representatives hold public meetings, please pray for them and their families for protection from angry radicals who have been emboldened to violence.

Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me. (Ps 59:1)

May we also continue to diligently pray for America and President Trump that God will deliver us from those intent on their own plans and purposes and that America will fulfill her God-given destiny.
