Analysis. Several recent news stories leave no doubt that there is an intentional agenda behind the promotion of transgenderism to school-age children. Fox News reports that Dr. Rachel Levine, a transgender Biden official who is assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services, promised in a recent speech that “gender-affirming care” for kids is coming. Speaking at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Levine said that medically changing children’s genders is soon to be normalized and has the full support of the Biden administration.

This is that same Dr. Levine who was heavily criticized by a whistleblower at the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital for supporting horribly abusive practices there. The whistleblower’s statements imply that government support of this sort is aimed at making transgenderism an official part of any young child’s upbringing. An updated IFA special report coming out today details how “gender-affirming care” is being promoted in our schools.

And it’s not just the government that is promoting transgenderism. Only last week, a video surfaced of a music teacher at a Minnesota elementary school, who was shown bragging that she deliberately confuses her students about gender. The backlash against her depraved actions was fierce, but the video proves that educators are indeed messing with young children’s minds about gender identity.

None of this aggressive promotion of transgenderism in elementary schools is unique to the U.S. In a recent video on Dutch website revive.nl, a representative of the Dutch Patient Association (NPV) expresses concern that aggressive transgender promotion is poisoning education in the elementary schools. The rep cites a curriculum that directly asks elementary-school-age children to reflect on whether they want to be a boy or a girl.

In addition to the schools, transgenderism is also being promoted aggressively by our public libraries. Drag Queen Story Hour has been spreading and enjoys active support from the American Library Association. According to a report in The Post Millennial, this is the “intentional queering of early childhood education.” The news site notes an article by education academic Harper Keenan and Drag Queen Story Hour founder Lil Miss Hot Mess, an article which asserts that “queer ways of knowing and being” must be part of the education of young children.

The intentionality behind promoting pediatric gender confusion is worth noting. They know that children’s minds are vulnerable, and that they are conditioned to take information from trusted adults like educators at face value. The parts of the brain that enable young children to critically assess what they hear have not yet been developed at that age. Their vulnerability is increased when they are away from their parents — who often have limited knowledge of what is happening anyway, and who are given virtually no say in what their children are taught in school. Parents who have protested fiercely at school board meetings about hot-button issues were labeled “domestic terrorists” by the National School Boards Association.

Satan’s Dark Agenda

What is behind this diabolical promotion of the lie that a human being can change his or her gender, which critics in the medical and psychological environment have pointed out as being biologically impossible?

Several years ago, I wrote an article on my blog outlining the biblical perspective on human identity. In that article, I asserted that the aggressive promotion of LGBTQ lifestyles involves more than just making alternative gender-identity forms acceptable. It is an actual attack on our physical, emotional, and spiritual identity as God has created. That is the work of Satan, who hates everything God has made and wants to destroy human beings because we are made in His image. And God created us with a binary and complementary sexual identity. Anything beyond this is sin, it is an abomination to Him, and it belongs to the devil’s realm.

So, the agenda behind transgendering our children is spiritually driven. It is, indeed, diabolical — straight from the devil himself. Since the Bible warns us to avoid being outwitted by the devil’s schemes (see 2 Corinthians 2:11), it will help us to know a more about how transgenderism came to be promoted so aggressively in our public places of learning.

I believe that during the past few decades, several trends have operated together to create a  moral vacuum in which Satan now appears to have a free hand in assaulting the minds of our children. These are:

1. Removal of prayer and of the practice of religion from our schools. In a 1962 landmark case, the Supreme Court ruled that it is unconstitutional for state officials to compose a prayer and encourage its recitation in the public schools. This opened the door to all-out attacks by atheist groups on the presence of any religious practice in public institutions of learning. And that has led to the slow but steady disappearance of Christianity in the classroom. God has been legislated out of our schools, and along with Him, any knowledge of the moral principles that make up His design for life has been forgotten and abandoned.
2. Abdication of parental authority and responsibility. During the 1980s and ’90s, a sharp rise in the national divorce rate has led to an increase in the numbers of families with single working parents. At the same time, steep increases in the cost of living have forced many two-partner couples with children to have both partners working outside the home. Beyond this, the reality of mothers desiring careers of their own alongside their husbands became commonplace and acceptable. These trends led to a decrease in the supervision of children at home, and the schools came to assume the responsibility for parenting those children. Even worse, the proliferation of social media began to influence children’s sense of identity and moral values more than parents could. When I was a chaplain for police and fire departments, I was asked to assemble a mental-health task force for city schools to help combat an increase in drug addictions, violence, and suicides among students. During meetings, school principals stated their concerns that the parenting had been forced upon them and that they were unprepared to do it. A fire-services captain who was a drill sergeant in the Army National Guard agreed. He told me that kids from well-to-do homes with well-educated parents and coming into boot camp often had to learn everything from how to make their beds and iron their clothes to the managing of a bank account. “I feel like we are parenting more than we are training,” he said. Again, this shift in parental authority away from home and onto the schools makes children vulnerable to outside influences. It also makes it harder for parents to intervene when children are subjected to questionable moral teaching. Authority over what goes into a child’s mind now rests in the hands of school boards, library associations, and school administrators. And Satan has staffed those governing bodies well — he uses them freely and frequently to promote anti-Christian beliefs and values.
3. Godlessness in the Last Days. As Paul warned his disciple Timothy: But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God … (2 Timothy 3:1–4). Paul minces no words when he describes for the Christians in Rome what that godlessness looks like: Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done (Romans 1:24–28). We see this unfolding before our eyes today in obvious ways. Not only has perversion been brought out into the open, but it is also being legalized, applauded, defended, and championed.

The removal of God from our public learning institutions, the abdication of parenting to the schools, and the darkening of minds as people have turned their backs on the Creator and His design for human lives have all created the vacuum in which Satan now fills our children’s minds with immoral lies disguised as “progressive” thinking.

This is why we must pray for our schools and for the emerging generations currently attending them. Of course, Satan can work through culture, legislation, and government authority to get his way as long as God lets him. But he is no match for the power of prayer! And in the schools, he cannot hinder moves of the Holy Spirit that transcend any boundaries administrators put in place.

Perhaps God removed His hand of restraint for a season so that His people would be shaken awake. The bold promotion of transgendering and of queer lifestyles, accelerated and applauded by the liberal media, should be a wake-up call for the Church to take action and reclaim schools through the power of prayer. If God is not welcomed back into public education through legislation and policy, then His presence will enter by means of prayer and through Christian students, parents, teachers, administrators, and volunteers with a contagious presence of light and truth!

Lord of all creation, we unite in prayer for our schools and libraries promoting lifestyles and gender identities that are an abomination to You. We ask for forgiveness that we became too comfortable and stood by while Your presence and any respect for Your design for life were removed from our learning institutions. Today we rise to the occasion through the power of prayer, and we ask that Your mighty hand would put a stop to these vile agendas and open wide the doors for Christian witness. Ignite a hunger for You in the hearts of students, teachers, and parents as these offensive teachings spin out of control. May the Holy Spirit move mightily in our schools to defeat Satan’s evil agenda. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
