I Prayed have prayed
God, we pray over the AI industry. Keep us safe, Father, and restrain the development of these AI. Let all things be in accordance with Your will and principles!
Reading Time: 3 minutes

As AI rapidly advances in ominous ways, we must pray that it be brought under control. Protect us, Lord!

From The Wall Street Journal. [Artificial Intelligence] is being developed with sudden and unanticipated speed; Silicon Valley companies are in a furious race. The whole thing is almost entirely unregulated because no one knows how to regulate it or even precisely what should be regulated. Its complexity defeats control. Its own creators donā€™t understand, at a certain point, exactly how AI does what it does. ā€¦

Have you taken your place on the wall?

This has been the week of big AI warnings. In an interview with CBS News,Ā Geoffrey Hinton, the British computer scientist sometimes called the ā€œgodfather of artificial intelligence,ā€ called this a pivotal moment in AI development. He had expected it to take another 20 or 50 years, but itā€™s here. We should carefully consider the consequences. Might they include the potential to wipe out humanity? ā€œItā€™s not inconceivable, thatā€™s all Iā€™ll say,ā€ Mr. Hinton replied.

On Tuesday more than 1,000 tech leaders and researchers, includingĀ Steve Wozniak,Ā Elon MuskĀ and the head of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, signed a briskly directĀ open letterĀ urging a pause for at least six months on the development of advanced AI systems. Their tools present ā€œprofound risks to society and humanity.ā€ Developers are ā€œlocked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no oneā€”not even their creatorsā€”can understand, predict or reliably control.ā€ If a pause canā€™t be enacted quickly, governments should declare a moratorium. The technology should be allowed to proceed only when itā€™s clear its ā€œeffects will be positiveā€ and the risks ā€œmanageable.ā€ Decisions on the ethical and moral aspects of AI ā€œmust not be delegated to unelected tech leaders.ā€

That is true. Less politely:

The men who invented the internet, all the big sites, and what we call Big Techā€”that is to say, the people who gave us the past 40 yearsā€”are now solely in charge of erecting the moral and ethical guardrails for AI. This is because they are the onesĀ creating AI. ā€¦

Meta, for instance, is big into AI. Meta, previously Facebook, has been accused over the years of secretly gathering and abusing user data, invading usersā€™ privacy, operating monopolistically. ā€¦

TheseĀ are the people who will create the moral and ethical guardrails for AI? Weā€™re putting the future of humanity into the hands of ā€¦ Mark Zuckerberg?

Google is another major developer of AI. It has been accused of monopolistic practices, attempting to keep secret its accidental exposure of user data, actions to avoid scrutiny of how it handles public information, and re-engineering and interfering with its own search results in response to political and financial pressure from interest groups, businesses and governments. ā€¦

TheseĀ are the people we want in charge of rigorous and meticulous governance of a technology that could upend civilization? ā€¦

I am sure that as individuals they have their own private ethical commitments, their own faiths perhaps. Surely as human beings they have consciences, but consciences have to be formed by something, shaped and made mature. Itā€™s never been clear to me from their actions what shaped theirs. I have come to see them the past 40 years as, speaking generally, morally and ethically shallowā€”uniquely self-seeking and not at all preoccupied with potential harms done to others through their decisions. …

Of course AIā€™s development should be paused, of course there should be a moratorium, but six months wonā€™t be enough. Pause it for a few years. Call in the worldā€™s counsel, get everyone in. Heck, hold a World Congress.

But slow this thing down. We are playing with the hottest thing since the discovery of fire.

YEs, Help us Father, to use the creativity and intelligence you’ve given us for YOUR GLORY! Lead us God. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Holy Spirit, the potential for evil is so staggering with AI I truly need your help on how to pray on it along with all the other ways evil is growing around us. So I continue to simply pray Holy Spirit for the final defeat of evil, Baal, in all its forms and names, at it’s source. God my Father, Jesus my Savior and Holy Spirit my Guide and Power, I do have faith, not fear. Hope, not despair. Still, I admit to what I guess is a sense of dread, not knowing how long you plan to string evil along until the lion roars. I know its your plan and your timing but the suspense is like a drumroll that just keeps getting louder. Love you Lord!
