Virginians Approve Abortion Until Birth
Virginia voters approved Question 1 on Tuesday, writing a right to abortion into the Commonwealth’s Constitution.
Join others crying out to the Lord day and night.
From Breitbart:
Virginia voters approved “Question 1” — which creates a right to abortions up until the moment of birth in the state — 61.4 percent to 38.6 percent with 86 percent of votes counted, the Associated Press (AP) projected.
While the measure allows for restrictions on abortions in the third trimester, the restrictions must have exceptions for a patient’s health or if the baby is likely not going to survive — wording which opponents say creates a loophole to allow abortion on demand in the state at the discretion of pro-abortion doctors.

Constitutional ballot measures in particular are effective as an offensive weapon because they are basically irreversible — they change a state constitution, take precedence over laws passed by state legislatures, and can only be overturned by another ballot measure or lengthy legal battles.
The amendment, sponsored by Democrat state Sen. Jennifer Boysko and Democrat Del. Charniele Herring, cleared the General Assembly a second time in January along party lines, shortly after Democrats took full control of state government. Its text bars the state from “directly or indirectly” burdening the new right unless it meets a compelling-interest test, a high bar for any future regulation. Abortion was already legal in Virginia through 27 weeks of pregnancy, but critics warned the amendment goes much further. Physicians and citizens sued earlier this year, arguing the ballot wording hid the measure’s full reach, including its potential to undo parental notification and basic health and safety rules at abortion facilities.
Virginia’s vote continues a hard trend for the pro-life movement since the fall of Roe v. Wade. Breitbart notes that nearly every abortion-related ballot measure since 2022 has gone the abortion industry’s way, often backed by groups like Planned Parenthood and the ACLU that heavily outspend pro-life organizations. The rare exceptions came in 2024, when voters in Florida, South Dakota, and Nebraska rejected pro-abortion measures. Abortion was also on the ballot this year in Nevada, Idaho, and Missouri.
Because the measure is now part of the constitution, any effort to restore protections for unborn children or parents’ rights in Virginia will face either another statewide vote or long court battles.
“Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter” (Proverbs 24:11). Let’s pray for the unborn children of Virginia, who now have even less protection under the law, and for mothers facing difficult pregnancies, that they would find real help and choose life. Let’s pray for pregnancy resource centers, pastors, and pro-life lawmakers as they work to protect life and parental rights under this new reality. Let’s pray for repentance across Virginia, that hearts hardened to the value of human life would be softened by the truth that every child is made in God’s image. Above all, let’s pray for an end to abortion in Virginia and throughout America.
