Mayra Flores recently took a traditionally Democrat seat in the House of Representatives, making her the first Mexican-born congresswoman. Her victory shows that Hispanic voters may be ready to support a new party.
From Fox News. Republican Rep.-elect Mayra Flores says Democrats should take her victory in a special congressional election in Texas as a warning sign to stop taking Hispanic voters for granted.

Flores, who won a contest Tuesday for an open seat House seat along the nation’s southern border in the Rio Grande Valley, made history as the first Mexican-born congresswoman. And she’s the first Republican to win in the heavily Hispanic district since it was created a decade ago.
“The Democrat Party has been in control here in South Texas for over 100 years and feel entitled to our vote. They feel they don’t have to do anything to earn our vote. And we sent a strong message to Washington, and we sent a strong message to Democrat Party that you have to get to work. If not, you’re going to get voted out,” Flores warned in an interview with Fox News the morning after her victory.
The district, which stretches from areas east of San Antonio down to the southern border, was once a Democratic stronghold. Then-President Obama carried it by 22 points a decade ago, but President Biden’s winning margin was just 4.2 points in 2020.
Asked why the district’s two counties that border Mexico — Cameron and Hidalgo counties — swung heavily towards her, Flores answered “because I’m one of them and I’m also standing up for our values. God, family, our community. That’s who we are in South Texas. We’re all about hard work.”
Flores topped 50% — avoiding a runoff — in a four-candidate race, edging Democrat Dan Sanchez by nearly eight points, to fill out the final six moths of the term of former Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela, who resigned in March to take a job as with a lobbying firm.
Not only does Flores’ victory narrow by one seat the House Democrats’ already razor-thin majority in the chamber, but it also gives Republicans more momentum heading into November’s midterm elections, when they aim to flip other Democratic controlled Hispanic majority districts.
“This is just the beginning and I believe that Hispanics throughout the country are going to see that more Hispanics are joining the Republican Party and they will do the research of why and when they do, they’ll realize that their values align with the Republican Party,” Flores predicted.
And Flores, a respiratory therapist who spotlighted her story as the wife of a U.S. Border Patrol agent and as a Mexican immigrant whose parents brought her to the U.S. as a child, said “there’s a saying that Hispanics are Republican, they just don’t know it. Well, we know it now….”

Father God, we pray for all upcoming elections that you cease and dismiss the enemies tactics to defraud voting privileges and by the social media attempts to steer voters mindsets to the things of this world. The USA was founded on Biblical principles and we, your people, are praying that your will will supercede every effort camouflaged by the enemy and it will be uncovered for what it truly is. There is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed. Be glorified Lord God. I keep hearing about a red wave in November and it certainly looks like it. I praise God for Myra Flores’ election and ask that He grant her fortitude and wisdom to honor Jesus and uphold our Constitution.
Normalcy bias tells us democrats will be ousted in November and they know it, yet I don’t see them making any efforts to try to woo voters. It seems they are doubling down on their diabolic and traitorous agenda in order to have everything in place before the elections. Does anyone else see this as well? They cannot allow elections to take place or some of them will hang as traitors in the public square, as they rightfully should!
Biden’s amendments for the WHO to take over international health emergencies for the next plandemic was to become effective in November (coincidence?) but failed. Thank God! However, they never give up. I have heard that they will try again in September. This would be perfect for them. Pray they fail once again. God, send confusion and chaos into their midst! Scatter Your enemies and confound them!
If another virus doesn’t give them the crisis they desire, how about increasing violence as a reaction to Roe v Wade being overturned, to the point of a national emergency? Bottom up, top down….
Precious Lord Jesus, have mercy on us. Forgive us having been so complacent and allowing this evil to creep in so insidiously. We deserve Your righteous judgement but we plead mercy.
You are holy and we are sinners. We don’t know what to do but we look to You. We are not seeking the victory but rather we are seeking You, knowing that when You come You bring the victory with You! Glorify Your Name! In Jesus Name. So be it.

I lived years ago in a border town of Hidalgo, TX, and am so proud of this woman for her stand. The debacle at the border I lived so close to has put me in prayer often for these wonderful people and that our powerful God shows Himself Hugely Powerful on their behalf, and us a nation as well.

Omniscient, Almighty God, please give her great discernment as she walks the halls of Congress. Show her what You see and wisdom to know what to say and when. As a landscaper for the past 20 years in northern Illinois, I’ve been so blessed to know the Hispanic community well. They are a dear people group to me! I agree they have always been republicans just as she said but it seemed to me it was more out of a sense of fear that they have close loyalties to the dem party. Nothing I’ve ever said would change their minds. It has to come from built in trust, personal experience, or one of their own trusted leaders. Hispanic need a sense of security from their leaders, and Americans have disregarded authority for a long time, and the media lying about our leaders has contributed to this cultural rebellion towards authority especially regarding conservatives!!!
I applaud Mayra Flores for taking a stand for the country and her values. I pray continued boldness and courage over her as she moves into her new position!
