The United Methodist Church (UMC), which is the third-largest Christian denomination in the United States, faces the possibility of schism after conservative Methodists are taking measures to break off over the issue of homosexuality.

The would-be division from the conservative group known as the Global Methodist Church (GMC) consists of a 17-member Transitional Leadership Council, which is a group of theologically conservative Methodists, according to The Christian Post.

The Wesleyan Covenant Association (WCA), which is a conservative United Methodist advocacy group, announced the GMC on March 1 but explained the group is still waiting for the UMC to formally approve a separation policy. . . .

As The Christian Post reported:

Keith Boyette, president of the Wesleyan Covenant Association and spokesman for the Global Methodist Church, told The Christian Post that UMC leadership has shown “an unwillingness to uphold its teachings.”

“In the United States, particularly, some bishops, clergy, and churches are operating in open defiance to the teachings of the United Methodist Church,” Boyette said.

“The Church has become ungovernable as a consequence, such unchecked defiance has destroyed the integrity of the Church.”

Boyette said that “this defiance” has “only increased in recent years,” noting that “those who advocate for change in the official teachings and who are in defiance have made it very clear that they will not leave the Church voluntarily.”

“With the defiance and disobedience in the leadership of the Church, they can’t be forced to leave,” he continued. “In light of this, theologically conservative leaders have decided to launch a new denomination that will be true to its doctrine and teachings and end this endless conflict within the United Methodist Church.”

The Methodists trace their roots to 18th-century English evangelist John Wesley, whose followers broke off from the Church of England following his death. . .

I pray for one of my sons, who raised as a Catholic, when I became a Christian my husband and I left and when into a non-denominational church and have followed Christ faithfully and helped our five children that God desired a personnel relationship with us and the way was through Jesus Christ. This son went to College and seminary at Regent College in British Columbia, came back to the University Church he attended on fire with a better knowledge of his faith. Sometimes the fire one has for the things of God can be rejected in the Church. He and his wife left and found fellowship in the Methodist Church and I pray that they will be led by Truth and the counsel of the Holy Spirit. I pray their loyalty to God and His Word is stronger than his attachment to a Church that is turning its back on the authority of His Word. Let us pray for this denomination and others that will be challenged as more and more denominations turn from true beliefs established in His Word.

I am in awe at the flagrant rebellion against the Word of God. One by one, the denominations fall but perhaps this is the reason for the decline in church membership? When a body of “believers” begins to pick and choose what they will obey, they are no longer believers.

Deuteronomy 4:2 You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you.

Proverbs 30:5-6 Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you and you be found a liar.

1 Corinthians 2:14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

Luke 11:28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Galatians 1:6-9 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

Stand on the Word of God, Methodists, and you won’t ever go wrong! God is very clear, in His Word! It is not up to us to change any of it. In fact, we are warned not to! Those who disagree with His Word should leave the Bble believing, uncompromising, churches. Those with their own agenda should go, it’s that simple!!

I have acquaintanceships with many conservative Methodists and with many who are not conservative. Having been in a Presbyterian congregation where similar issues raged, I sympathize with the dilemma. I am praying for each individual who is affected to have Holy Spirit guidance and comfort and for wisdom and discernment for leaders.
