RELIGIOUS LIBERTY IN THE NEWS
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY IN THE NEWS
Thank God for movement in our country in the direction of greater religious freedoms.
Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. (Ps. 9:10)
Exempting religiously affiliated hospitals from tax laws:
“A Supreme Court case involving three hospital systems once again brought up the ongoing legal question about just what counts as a church. The court heard arguments in the case at the end of March. The decision could effect (sic) millions of workers at religiously affiliated hospitals, schools, and other organizations.
Advocate Health Care, Dignity Health, and St. Peter’s Healthcare System want to keep running their employee pension plans as they have for decades, with IRS approval. Federal law gives the religiously affiliated hospitals an exemption from a requirement that they fully fund and insure employee pension plans.
But employees say their retirements are at risk and the hospitals shouldn’t be exempt from the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).” (Excerpted from WORLD, reporting by Mary Reichard)
Christian student exonerated:
“Florida’s Rollins College has lifted the suspension of a student who rhetorically clashed with a Muslim professor over the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
Sophomore Marshall Polston was suspended March 24 by Rollins College in Winter Park after arguments over the historical accuracy of Jesus’ execution at Calvary. Professor Areej Zufari also filed a report with the Dean of Safety, which claimed Mr. Polston violated an order to stay away from class. An investigation by the school — buttressed by video surveillance and a receipt — vindicated the student’s claims that he was innocent.
“A student’s freedom of speech and expression are the cornerstones of liberty in a free society,” Mr. Polston’s attorney, Kenneth Lewis, said in a statement after the suspension was lifted, The Orlando Sentinel reported Friday.” (Excerpted from the Washington Times, reporting by Douglas Ernst.)

May the Lord abundantly bless Marshall Polston. As he confessed Jesus to (militant)men, may Jesus confess Marshall to the Father of Lights.
Blessings also on the lawyer that defended him!
Thank you Lord God for this young man, Marshall Polston and for his commitment to defend the gospel of Jesus Christ. Increase his spiritual wisdom and understanding as he stands firm and steadfast in the faith and give him a forehead of flint against all the wiles and lies of the devil. In Jesus name, for His sake. Amen
What is wrong with our colleges and universities today??. That any authority on a college campus would suspend a student for (1) standing up for what he believes in (2) a verbal disagreement with anyone, even the president of the college and (3) exercising his First Amendment rights protected by our own Constitution?! What in the world has happened to my beautiful wonderful country? Shame on Rollins College and all college campuses that perpetuate such stupidity!
I am so glad that this student is back at Rollins Collage in Orlando. A big victory! Thank you for being Bold
Mr. Poiston. Blessings from God be upon you! Thanks to your lawyer and all who prayed for you also.
