After years of chaos and crisis at the southern border, new numbers from the Department of Homeland Security point to a dramatic turnaround. DHS officials say the Trump administration’s renewed enforcement policies have resulted in historically low illegal crossings, an end to “catch and release,” and major increases in drug seizures at the border.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced this week that April marked twelve consecutive months of zero releases of illegal aliens apprehended by Border Patrol at the southwest border with Mexico into the United States — a milestone officials say reflects the most secure border in American history under President Donald Trump. DHS reports a 94 percent drop in illegal border apprehensions compared to the Biden era, with daily crossings now lower than what agents encountered in a single hour at the height of the 2023 crisis.

Twelve straight months of ZERO releases at the border. Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, we are delivering the most secure border in American history,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “The days of catch and release are over. We are enforcing the nation’s laws and sending illegal aliens back to their home countries.”

Two years ago, Border Patrol agents, under orders from President Joe Biden and then-DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, released more than 68,000 illegal aliens who were apprehended at the border into the U.S. interior, according to CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott.

According to DHS, southwest border apprehensions in April were down 94% compared to the Biden administration average, while year-to-date apprehensions for Fiscal Year 2026 are reportedly down 95%. Officials also noted that total border encounters for the current fiscal year are lower than what was recorded in April 2024 alone.

At the same time, DHS says law enforcement efforts against drug trafficking have intensified. With Border Patrol agents no longer overwhelmed by processing and caring for large numbers of migrants, officials say agents have been able to refocus on frontline enforcement and interdiction efforts. DHS reported a 61% increase in drug seizures this fiscal year compared to the same period last year.

For many Americans, the numbers represent more than statistics — they represents answers to our prayers for national sovereignty, public safety, and the rule of law. Border security remains one of the most pressing issues facing the nation, and many believers continue to pray for wisdom, justice, and protection for both citizens and law enforcement officers tasked with securing the border.
