Pentagon to Declassify Afghanistan Withdrawal Records
A new Pentagon review is set to reopen scrutiny of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, as officials move to declassify key materials and pursue long-awaited accountability. With fresh details expected to emerge, this effort could shed new light on one of the most controversial actions of the previous administration.
Join others crying out to the Lord day and night.
From Fox News:
A new Pentagon review of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan is set to declassify previously restricted materials from earlier investigations, reopening scrutiny of key decisions made during the Biden administration’s botched 2021 exit from the country.
“We plan to declassify all of the documents that we source in this investigation — all the interview transcripts, all the previous investigations that the Biden administration did that have been overclassified,” Scheller told Fox News Digital. “We’re going to declassify all of it so that everyone can make assessments for themselves.”
…
The bombing at Abbey Gate killed 13 U.S. service members and more than 150 Afghans, marking the deadliest day for U.S. forces in Afghanistan in years.
This new review marks a significant shift from previous investigations, which documented failures but stopped short of assigning clear responsibility. By expanding the scope to include extensive interviews with both senior leaders and rank-and-file troops, officials aim to address lingering questions about who made the critical decisions during the withdrawal and whether those decisions could have been handled differently.
Particular attention is being given to the Abbey Gate attack, where service members lost their lives amid chaotic evacuation efforts. Reports have indicated that warnings of a potential attack were known in advance, raising serious concerns about how those threats were handled. Additionally, the review is revisiting how acts of bravery by Marines on the ground were recognized, including cases where honors were reportedly downgraded.
As the review begins, let’s pray for truth, accountability, and healing. Let’s ask the Lord to bring clarity to what happened, comfort the families of the fallen, and ensure that justice is served for those who gave their lives in service to our nation.
Pray for truth and accountability, and share this article to honor those who served.
