From The Epoch Times. A former top FBI official in New York has been arrested because of his alleged ties to a Russian oligarch, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Jan. 23.

Charles McGonigal, formerly the special agent in charge of counterintelligence in the FBI’s New York Field Office, was arrested because of his ties to Oleg Deripaska, according to a DOJ statement and court documents. Deripaska, a Russian billionaire, has been sanctioned by the United States and was criminally charged in 2022 for violating those sanctions.
Prosecutors say McGonigal and Sergey Shestakov—a court interpreter—were charged with violating and conspiring to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act with money laundering and conspiring to commit money laundering. Specifically, Shestakov was charged with making misstatements to the FBI, according to the DOJ.
Both defendants were arrested on Jan. 21 and made an appearance on Jan. 23 before Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave in a Manhattan federal court, the DOJ stated. McGonigal is among the highest-ranking former FBI officials to ever have been charged with a crime. …

The former FBI official and Shestakov allegedly agreed in 2021 to investigate a rival Russian oligarch in exchange for payments from Deripaska, according to prosecutors. …

We need to pray for the media so they will be honest and tell us of these things. Thank you for the journalists who are revealing this corruption to us and the justice of those who commit the crimes.
Thank You, Lord, for cleaning out the gutters. We, as Your people, bring our government, military, and law to You agreeing with You that it’s the time that manifested corruption no longer be ignored. And yet, we also acknowledge, Lord, that each of us is to humble and pray, turn from our individual “idols,” seek Your face, and become more and more the in-one-with-You people You know is our “hole in one.” Your promise is to then heal our land. Thank You, Father, for the turning of Your children that IS taking place. May it be more, starting with me. And thank You again, Father, that the evil in our government, our country, is being rooted out.
Lord I pray that the truth will be told about the corruption in our government -,in relation to foreign countries -,and that are legislators and civil servants would refrain from involvement in illegal activities..and see the error of their ways ..and repent-,Lord. Lord let your holy Spirit fire burn through their souls ..causing him to fall to their knees in conviction and repent.

Regarding McGonigal’s ties to the Carter Page investigation, I have been saying all along, based on my undergraduate studies of Russia, that I saw no reason why Russia would want to meddle to help get Donald Trump elected in 2016 when they could have had an ardent socialist like Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders. But to cause trouble for Trump by making us think they did – that was very much their style. Now we’re hearing there was a “Russian asset” involved all along. Some of us are not surprised.
