After years of censoring conservatives, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced his company will put an end to censorship and promote free speech.

From CBN. The parent company of Facebook and Instagram has announced it’s putting an end to its program that restricted free speech and censored messages that its “fact checkers” didn’t agree with.

The Meta company is officially scrapping its third-party fact-checking program. Instead, it’ll be shifting to a Community Notes model similar to what Elon Musk has used on his social media platform X. That method of accountability allows users to weigh in on the veracity of posts.

Meta is admitting that its third-party fact-checkers had their own biases and too much content ended up being silenced. Critics have said that all the “fact-checking” just ended up becoming a pathway for censorship.

In a post titled “More Speech and Fewer Mistakes,” Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan admitted, “…we are making too many mistakes, frustrating our users and too often getting in the way of the free expression we set out to enable. Too much harmless content gets censored, too many people find themselves wrongly locked up in ‘Facebook jail,’ and we are often too slow to respond when they do.” …

Zuckerberg seemed to confirm that this decision is partly based on the latest major shift in American politics with the election victory by Donald Trump.  “The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards once again prioritizing speech,” Zuckerberg said in an online video.  …

From The Federalist. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted that his Big Tech companies censored users’ free speech amid pressure from government actors — an authoritarian effort the U.S. Supreme Court declined to stop earlier this year.

The admission of guilt came in a roughly five-minute video message released Tuesday, in which Zuckerberg noted how there has been “widespread debate about potential harms from online content” in recent years. He specifically described how “governments and legacy media have pushed to censor more and more,” much of which, Zuckerberg maintained, is “clearly political.” …

Zuckerberg’s tacit acknowledgment of Meta’s embrace of censorship at the behest of federal authorities is damning, but it’s not new. He all but admitted in an August letter addressed to Congress that Facebook suppressed the New York Post’s Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 election due to pressure from the FBI and coordinated with the Biden administration to censor posts challenging the government’s Covid narrative.

But those aren’t even the most horrifying details of this entire scandal.

When given the chance to put the kibosh on Big Tech’s collusion with the federal government to suppress Americans’ First Amendment rights, a majority on the Supreme Court chose to look the other way.

In Murthy v. Missouri, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett joined the high court’s Democrat appointees in effectively dismissing a lawsuit brought by two states and several medical specialists against the feds for their social media censorship scheme. …

Due to a majority on the Supreme Court, there’s no guarantee that the Big Tech-government censorship Americans endured throughout the past several years won’t happen again. Instead of providing a robust defense of citizens’ First Amendment rights, these justices have forced the people to place the sanctity of their online speech in the hands of elites like Zuckerberg …
