I Prayed have prayed
Father, we pray that You would empower pastors across the nation to be bold and to stand for your truth. Prevent them from fearing for their jobs, God, but encourage them to boldly fight for Your truth and values.

Many pastors don’t mention political issues from the pulpit, even those that the Bible addresses clearly. Why? This opinion piece from the Wall Street Journal (written by a Baptist pastor) offers his reasoning about pastors and politics. What do you think? Share your insights about pastors and politics in the comments.

From The Wall Street Journal. Pastors like Rev. Locke and Robert Jeffress of the First Baptist Church of Dallas—who once stated mid-sermon, “President Trump, we love you!”—are often raised up by critics as examples of how American Christianity has become overtly political, sparking a movement on social media to revoke the tax-exempt status of all U.S. churches….

Post a prayer for your state!

In 2019, I conducted a survey of 1,010 Protestant Christians asking them if they had heard their pastor discuss a list of 10 political issues from the pulpit over the previous year. The list ranged from simple encouragement to vote on election day to hot-button issues like abortion and gay rights. The survey showed that 30% had heard none of the issues discussed in church, while another 25% said they had heard only one….

These results suggest that overall, there is an overwhelming absence of sermonizing about politics in American houses of worship. As a Baptist pastor who has preached nearly every Sunday of my adult life, I can fully understand why that’s the case: Pastors are worried about their jobs.

Workers in almost all sectors of the American economy are afforded some kind of legal protection against being fired. But because lawmakers and the courts want to give religious organizations wide latitude when it comes to hiring and firing their clergy, most legislation that deals with employment discrimination includes a ministerial exception. Because of this carve-out in the law, if a religious leader is fired, there is very little legal recourse available to him or her. This precarious position means that clergy often shy away from being political from the pulpit, worried about angering a portion of their congregation that could oust them from their job.

Another reason that pastors typically steer clear of being overtly political from the pulpit is that it impedes the ability of their church to attract new members for long-term, sustainable growth. Religious organizations, by their very nature, want to find a larger audience for their message. They strategize and organize outreach efforts to cast the widest net possible….

How are you praying for pastors across America? Share your thoughts and prayers below.

Could it also be because they need the offerings to stay up. If they offend anyone they will lose money??? I do pray for them, because I know how hard it can be to talk about these things. I try to tell my liberal children the truth and they get angry and tell me that they don’t want division in the family. But I tell them that the Word is like a double edged sword that divides! It’s hard, but our churches need to tell the truth because it starts with us!

If you’re like me, you are more likely to feel guilty about things you did than things you didn’t do. We are taught to keep the peace to the extent we are able. That does not mean to turn a blind eye to sin. It’s imperative for the church body to discern through the power of the Holy Spirit and by God’s Word the presence of darkened spirits that threaten the well-being of Christ’s church. The church needs not to get entangled in the web of divisive politics, but must be informed of biblical truth pertaining to matters of local, state, and national legislation and governance since the bills, laws and government oversight is established to have a direct impact on all citizens irrespective of political party. God is the ultimate Governor. He reigns. Government authorities are to abide according to His standards that prevail above and beyond worldly standards. Who will tell the people and teach them God’s heart for all people if not Pastors and elders who are charged with shepherding His flock? The flock need not fall prey to hungry wolves inn necessarily There is a huge difference between governance and politics. God’s word is clear, the Government is upon His shoulders. We must remain engaged in matters of government and civilian affairs to pray intercession for all women and women in elected positions. We are the conduit through prayer to connect Heaven’s rule to the needs of the people on Earth. We are the people that make up One Nation Under God in America. We still need to use our voices and votes wisely to raise the alarm when the hungry lion is crouched at the doorstep waiting to devour its prey. God’s plan for his people is to love and care for His flock. We are held accountable to Him not only for what we do but also what we didn’t do. (omission). Certainly a sobering thought!

I never thought about Pastors being fired. I just thought that they didn’t want to lose parishioners and their tithes and offerings. The problem is in “truth”. Too many churchgoers do not know what God’s word says about issues that are affected by Politics. If they didn’t want to address the whole congregation then they could address these issues in Bible studies or Prayer groups. It is so very important for all of us to know what is happening in our government and our nation and how it lines up with the word of God.

Helen, I couldn’t agree more with your statement. “We are also praying for more John the Baptist-type Christian leaders who will publicly confront evil governmental leaders”.

Until we do this more visibly, Christians will not appear to have the courage of their own convictions and will continue to appear weak, ineffective, and useless…..as we continue to lose numbers in America (for the first time in our history only 47% of Americans claim even a casual relationship with a church-Pew Research-2021).

Therefore, your idea of getting more Christians involved in our governmental process is absolutely crucial.

Our entire system of the US Constitution and the Preambles and early Sections of all 50 State Constitutions refer to the Judeo-Christian God as the basis for all governmental affairs.

Why not act on what our Founding Fathers knew from the beginning. WITHOUT GOD WE ARE NOTHING!

This does not sound like the church leaders in the book of Acts!
We are praying that the church gets a vision to take the gospel into governmental arenas via voting, chaplains, Bible studies., and teaching their people how to apply biblical standards to how they vote. And by turning Esaus into Jacobs. Esau did not value his.heritage and allowed it to be taken from him for the sake of comfort. American Christians are like Esau. They need to repent and value their Christian heritage and.vote. We are also praying for John the Baptist type Christian leaders who will publically confront evil governmental leaders. And we are praying churches will start sending missionaries into the government in the form of candidates for governmental positions.

Screw losing your job and being canceled! Screw gathering new members! You’re losing more than you’re gaining by not speaking out to save this country! Will we have a country anymore if you keep playing it safe, Pastors? I know several people (myself included) who are seeking churches that have Pastors willing to stand for values and get involved in the political message! Good Biblical words for Pastors in this day in age are: “Be bold, be strong, for the Lord thy God is with thee” Joshua 1:9.

What? there are churches that exist like this? Wow! only in my dreams.
Prayer meetings, intercession, led by Holy Spirit? Sunday worship had church- goers coming to sanctuary with their coffee or a quick coffee stop at the fellowship hall to get it. One person routinely brought along her little dog. I walked into church mid-week to help with a fundraiser, while there was a group gathering. It was a loud, hen party type environment. Asked what was going on in that room with all those women?
A: womans bible study!! I was aghast! I was at that Lutheran church for 7 yrs., watched it grow worse, despite my intercession for many other issues not mentioned, before I bailed this dead or dying church.
Why I have joined the IFA community. It’s so awesome.

I was very interested to read the answer as to why pastors don’t address current political issues from the pulpit. The answers given are probably true for some. However, I would like to think that that is not the primary reasons for most.

I personally would not continue to go to a church that consistently brought up the current political matters even if I agreed with the Pastor’s viewpoint. I believe that it is my job to preach the Word in a way that people can understand it. It is not my job to preach on immigration, gun legislation, and etc. unless the Bible specifically speaks to one of those issues. (Although I do have strong personal feelings about many of the issues but most of them are personal opinions that may or may not be supported in Scripture). Of course, matters like homosexuality are clearly addressed in Scripture. Even then, messages on the whole gay movement should not become a preaching hobby horse.

I strongly believe that our society is in the sad shape we are in not because pastors don’t preach on political issues but because the Word is not consistently taught in its context. People are increasingly Biblically illiterate and it is obvious in many of the extreme issues of today. Society is talking about the political issues and taking sides instead of taking time to study the Word of God and applying it to life. We must preach the Word in season and out of season. The political issues change but the Word of God is forever.

The article, which may be true for some, is not representative of the vast majority of the Pastors that I know.

Preach on brother! When pastors preach the Word, especially chapter by chapter, the church grows, feasts on milk AND meat, is equipped for His good work and is trained how to wear and weird the armor Poppa gives us and we learn to recognize and dance with the Spirit rather than carry on with the devil

I have such a problem with pastors who in this day and age of evil prevailing everywhere shy away from the biblical stands on politics. They are the shepherd of their flock and as Jesus did should stand firm on these truths and show who is truly the King of Kings. My sons who are not attending any church cannot understand why bible believing Churches are not rising up in anger against the evils in our country. That says it all for me

Just want to suggest that us pastors to focus on and enfisize our basic hierarchy of truths of Doctrine, values, and principles, like honesty, transparency, and accountability and pursuit of the common good. And carefully examining the credibility of all the facts being asserted , pro and con. And the kinds of spoken and unspoken. motives and goals of those on both sides. And the process should always embody mutual love humility, respect and understanding of the history, fears, hopes and dreams of all sides. And have a willingness to accept and fallow the truth and wisdom reveled by the Holy Spirit where ever it may lead. Meetings or groups and be held before or after Services or latter in the week at church or latter in the week.. I’m sure there are still good training programs available for facilitators, for small discussion groups. And like our Constituiom framing Forefathers, begin and end meetins and sessions with P &W, and intetcessionary prayer. Shalom!

Pastors do not preach the Kingdom of God as Jesus taught.
They do not know what it is. If they teach God’s laws, that would be controversial or “political”. Our country is in a wretched condition because of these dogs that don’t bark (Ez. 34).

I noticed that the write up comment from the Baptist Pastor, who said he had preached nearly every Sunday of his adult life, surmized his view of the lack of the preaching on politics from the pulpit is that “Pastors are afraid of losing their jobs.”

Any Pastor who views their convocation or calling from God to be a Pastor as a “Job,” then he is in the wrong place. That is one of the biggest misconceptions from Pastors is that they believe their duty as a Pastor is a “Job.” When you are a “hireling,” it is a job to you. You will run and save your life before you try to save the sheep’s lives. But when you are truly called by God to this position of a Shepherd or Pastor, it is a supernatural calling from God and you give your life to Him and to the people, His sheep. God said, “For the gifts and callings of God are without repentance.”

Preaching and teaching the gospel and modeling a Christ-like life will do more for the nation’s faithful than railing on about political issues with fire and brimstone.

Quoting scripture, and inviting people to consider God’s will in their life, community, and country and encouraging congregants to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit, would exempt clergy from attacks by the worldly. Speaking truth rather than offering opinion puts pastors on a firm foundation. It still might cost them in this world but reward them richly in the next.

There is certainly no shortage of sin referenced in scripture and in spite of a few thousand years between then and now, not a lot has changed. Mankind remains sinful and in need of forgiveness and grace. This is what keeps God’s word forever relevant, timely, and fresh.

You can’t just preach the word of God and ignore the world falling into the hands of Satan. When you’re judges pass laws to legalize sin, that which God calls sin, then the world around you needs your voice and your office to stand up against this sin.

If you are silent, then it tells the world that “maybe” this was neve sin in the first place, maybe we can enjoy homosexuality and the murdering of our children in the womb without any adverse action towards us from God. Your silence condones the sin to a dying, filthy world.

You make yourself the same as the religious man who walked past the person lying on the street hurt, not to get involved or go out of your comfort zone.

I know through experience when at church my husband was going through a study on Restoring America, we had two couples storm out of the room saying, “We don’t talk about politics here.” They influenced others not to come to Bible Study because of it. It is sad when members don’t even see that churches have a role in shaping the morals of our country.

18
    Mac Adams
    June 10, 2022

I commend you and your husband for including “Restoring America” in your Bible Study. It is our biblical duty and calling to pray for all those who are in a place of leadership in our local, state and government offices. The Bible tells us to do this, “Pray for those in a place of leadership because they are there for your benefit (paraphrased).”

Unfortunately, many church’s man-made doctrines say that it is a “sin” to get involved with politics, even voting. “We are not of this world, so come out from among them.”

Yet the Bible tells us that fighting in wars is a righteous thing. In the Old Testament, God told Israel to attack and overtake certain nations, that He would give them the victory. God placed those in authority who were in authority such as Judges and Kings. If God is involved with worldly affairs, governments, and politics, then of course so should we be.

Keep up the good work of trying to equip the Saints, at least those who are willing to listen to the Bible being taught and apply it to their lives.

What we do in my mens Bible Group is to read line by line verse by verse in a he Bible. Then we hold that up against todays society. This gives us the road map on how we should behave and what living a righteous life is about. We then take what we read and live it. We believe that Gods word is alive and well. Good for ancient times but perfect for our times.
This is what Pastors need to do in my opinion. They need to light the path for their flock to follow. They need to hold the Bible up to todays society. This way the congregation will not get blown around like grass in a breeze. They will be planted firmly on the Rock.
What good is it to hear a flowery sermon for 20 minutes then forget it by the time you leave Church?
We must live the words and concepts of the Bible 24/7, everyday. Put Jesus first. We found out that by doing this life is much easier and happier. You know where you stand. And when we get spiritual attacks (and we all will get them) we know where it’s coming from. We are comforted and lean on God and He always helps. It makes life way better. It takes time and patience to grow this Faith. It works.

Yeah, the Wall Street Journal is where I always look for answers to theological questions.
First, real pastors are not hired, they have a divine call to Word and Sacrament ministry through the Body of Christ, the Holy Christian Church on Earth. You are answering your theological question from a secular perspective.
As a pastor, I have received a call to preach the Gospel in all its Truth and purity, and administer the Sacraments according to the Gospel. I don’t worry about being hired, and can’t be fired, as long as I do my job.
All of Today’s problems can be answered from a Scriptural point of view, “there is nothing new under the sun.” Just because God has allowed us modern technology, humanity is no different today than one, two, three thousand years ago. We are still murdering our brother as Cain murdered Abel. And powerful political parties still plot against God and murder His Son sent as a forgiving Sacrifice for those very sins.
When a “pastor” is busy aggrandizing himself with this weeks political matters, he is not tying his congregation into the eternal Body of Christ. But, when he preaches the Law (Ten Commandments) in all its fullness, people can easily equate “thou shalt not murder” to abortion, “thou shalt not commit adultery” to open perversion and homosexuality, or “thou shalt no covet” to our present greed and avarice. And “Thou shalt have no other gods” well, can you figure that one out? And then follows that with the Gospel of Christ’s forgiveness, to assure fearful souls, he has done his “job.”
If he is busy worrying about his “job,” paycheck, or offending people with God’s Word, then where does a poor, miserable, sinner look for assurance of God’s grace?

But the church is not standing against the evil that has taken over our world. That is the point that many commenters are making here. The world has been invited into the church, which is as it should be. But the church, instead of showing the world that it is in the world but is not of it, has put on the world’s clothing, has tried to make a bargain with the world by adopting its’ agenda and its’ values. It is a bargain with the devil. The church should be saying No, and it should be saying it so loudly that it can be heard by by every lay person and every politician on the planet. Instead, there is silence.

    June 10, 2022

Please forgive me if I come off as offensive to you personally, that is not my intention.

If we come to your church and only listen and learn what you preach from the Bible, and we don’t go out into the world and “do something” with what we are now accountable for, we have accomplished nothing. Without works, our faith is dead… and so is our spiritual life.

If you, the Pastor, only preach and teach your congregants, and you never go out from the protection of the four walls of your church and apply what you teach physically before the people, getting involved and leading your flock, you have accomplished nothing.

You are to represent God and Jesus before the people. Jesus is called the Good Shepherd over and over in the word. A Shepherd “leads” his flock. He doesn’t stay in his house and send the sheep out before the wolves. He goes ahead of them as the shepherd, the leader, their Pastor who believes what he teaches to his flock so much that he is willing to put his life on the line for what he believes and teaches from the Bible.

You can’t just do half of what you are called to do and be. You must give 100% of your life to God and to His sheep that He has entrusted unto you. Or else, you either are or you are simply becoming a hireling.

God said, “I would that you would answer yes or no.” “If you are neither hot or cold, I’ll spew you out of my mouth.” It is never half way with God on our behalf. He said he would never leave us nor forsake us, he would be with us till the end of the age. He loved us so much that he gave his only Son to die for us. He is in this 100% as our leaders and Pastors should be. This is the image for a Pastor to emulate to the people and to the world outside.

You are absolutely right. When the Pastors would not stand up against the Judges “before” they passed laws making homosexuality and lesbianism legal, there became a rapid downhill slide of immorality in the land. Sodomy, which used to be illegal in this country, and still is a gross sin in the Bible, is now legal. The marriage of same sex is now legal. All sorts of immorality such as LGBTQ + is now legal.

The Pastors were silent outside the walls of their churches when the debate to make Abortions legal in the land was in its infancy stages, and now over 70 million children have been murdered legally.

The Bible tells us that there should not be “many” Pastors and teachers because He will judge them twice as harshly as the common lay person. When you turn a blind eye to the laws of this land becoming against the laws of God, your lack of involvement to stand against this is also sin. It is a very dangerous thing to think you will be completely safe within the confines of the 4 walls of your church.

Matthew 25 is a prime example of a lack of giving yourself for others in spite of the cost to you personally. He told them to bind these men hand and foot and throw them into the Lake of Fire. They began to cry out, but Lord, Lord, didn’t we do all these things in your Name? But when they refused to help the less fortunate, Jesus said, depart from me, I never knew you. But the ones who did go out and help the less fortunate, Jesus said to enter into my rest of my Father you good and faithful servant. What you did to the least of these, you did it unto me.

I think that most pastors are not as concerned about losing their jobs as about their churches being closed down. I do wish they would speak up more. That said, there is also a balance between being silent and between getting overly excited or fearful about an issue. There is a golden mean. I would really appreciate if pastors would give practical means of staying centered in faith and confidence and in group support so as not to go off the deep end and either stress oneself out to the point of being ineffective and to not getting so emotional about any issue so as to convince others only that one is irrational. This would be a great big help, most likely enabling more of us to stand up and witness. The key is the word “grounded” or the word “centered” or the word “rooted”. One must stay grounded, rooted and centered in TRUTH.

You’re quoting the law of the land. By complying to this law of the land, it is (by choice) forcing the Pastor to violate the Law of God.

Now which would you rather be guilty of… disobeying God, or disobeying the local State laws? With one, you may lose your 501-C tax emption, but with the other, you may lose more than you ever bargained for.

If man builds the Church, it will not stand. But if God builds the Church and adds to it daily, it will not only stand but it will accomplish what He desires.

So, did your vocation come from the Sate that you must obey them… or did your vocation come from God that you must obey Him? You must make that decision. Without Jesus, you can do nothing. But with Jesus, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

There comes a point when you have to walk out what you have taught. To believe in what you cannot see. If you’re afraid of losing your 501-C tax emption, do you really believe and trust in God to take care of you and your church?

Jesus was a very controversial while on earth. He spoke things that no one wanted to hear specifically the clergy of the day. If it pertains to scripture, as an anti then it needs to be spoken. God does not want us to be wishy washy or to sit on the fence. Pastor Gregg Locke does not hold back and has scripture to back up everything he says. I saw one excerpt from his sermon about being a Peace Keeper. The bible does not say be a Peace Keeper but be a Peace Maker. Keeper is passive while Maker is proactive. PREACH!

My Pastor tells us to vote but he doesn’t allow us to start fighting with each other about politicians. We are to keep our focus UP on JESUS. We should humble ourselves before the Lord. It’s not about getting fired. It’s about being obedient to God. God places all our leaders. God is in control, not man. Trust God, believe God, give God the glory & praise due Him. Romans tells us to submit to authority, it doesn’t say whether you like them. Remember this, God already knows what is happening. He knows the end from the beginning. Americans needs to get on their knees, repent and focus on Jesus. Can you imagine what our country would be like then? Fear God and get the fear of man out of you. God knows what we need before we need it, look to Him for all things and walk in obedience. Pastors need to focus on Jesus Christ not who’s running for office. We need to pray for God’s will to be done not ours. Praise God!

I agree with you when you say, be obedient to God and focus on Jesus Christ.

But I disagree with you when you said, “Pastors need to focus on Jesus Christ not who’s running for office.”

Pastors and the lay people need to be involved with both, focusing on Jesus, learning the word, praying and doing the great commission, but also be involved in the politics of this country that violate the Word and Laws of God. ie, abortion, some sex marriages, LGBTQ +, perverting the laws to benefit one side of the other, etc.

We are to be the salt of the earth, without it, we lose our religious influence in the country and the world.

If we all come together as one Christian voice to the government and to the Judges, there is nothing that will be impossible for us. This is what God said of the wicked people building the Tower of Babel. They were of one voice, one vision, one spirit, therefore there is nothing impossible for them. So if the wicked can come together in one voice and one vision, nothing being impossible for them…. then how much more can we accomplish as one voice, one vision, with God on your side there would be nothing impossible for us to accomplish.

Doesn’t the Bible say we’re not citizens of this world? …. Isn’t the healing of our land and righteousness being established in it dependent on us turning from our wicked ways, praying, and humbling ourselves? Not a word was mentioned in Hod’s Word of Jesus and the early believers’ involvement in the Roman government or in any other government. They weren’t! They were called to preach the Word, heal the sick, and cast out demons, NOT preach politics! You who are trying to change Babylon through political involvement, are you demonstrating the power of God with miracle signs and wonders?

It seems most Christians do not believe that God puts whom He will in power…. In America we have believed it’s the people’s votes that do it…. Are we not hearing now that our votes have not counted for decades? They’ve been stolen, but even if our votes did count, it is God who puts whom He will. in power. He bypasses whoever and whatever, as was shown when he sent a lying spirit to accomplish his will in Micaiah’s day. (2 Chronicles 18: 21) Do we really think God’s will is dependent upon political maneuvers? He is the Most High God Who rules in our affairs…. It is NOT man who is ruling!
Oh brethren, we need to repent of our unbelief. What a difference the world would be in if every Christian lived righteously. WE (our very lives) are the message….
Have we not learned by now that all the moral laws including the law of Moses have not changed anyone?…. Only the Word of God can do it and our business, which is the Father’s business, is preaching and living the Word! So come on brothers and sisters: Go out there and heal the sick and cast out devils: Show the world what God can do through His love and power coming out of YOU!

You are wrong saying that Jesus nor God ever got involved with government or politics.

Jesus himself went into the Temple and turned over the money changers tables and threw out the sellers and merchants. He said you’ve turned my Father’s house into a den of thieves instead of a house of prayer.

    Leviticus 5 tells us (paraphrased);
When you see a wrong, and you know it’s wrong, and you don’t raise your voice or hand to stop it, you are just as guilty as the one who committed the wrong AND you will incur the same judgment as him.

Now tell us that it is not for us Christians to get involved in anything that is a “wrong.” Anything that violates God’s just and moral laws and will turn us (our country) away from God.

I have beening praying for my pastors and leadership for sometime as well as all churches. I believe that the church is partially responsible for the state of our nation. Where was the church’s influence when Roe vs Wade was passed, or when prayer was jerked from the schools?? Look what has replaced the influence of Christ?? Our schools are war zones, kids are disrespectfully, violent t times, the tail wags the dog. Where there is no discipline or consequences we reap chaos the devil’s workshop. Whenever I try to encourage my pastors to speak truth about our government I am labeled as too patriotic and putting patriotism above God. I basically ignore the comments because I love the people of my church. I believe our founding pastor was probably a conscientious objector during Vietnam. I can only pray for my church. They have me almost believing I am not worthy of title Christian because to me there is no gray…just right or wrong. I wish I could talk to a pastor who believes the church needs to be involved verbally as well as prayerfully. I guess I spent too many years in the military watching communist countries and didn’t appreciate our own country was being taken over by them. I hurt for all families of veterans who died and those who have been irreparably wounded. Maybe God is sick of our ingratitude as a country and had just removed his blessing. Can we be saved from ourselves? Time will tell.

Thank you for your service, Jackie.

You have articulated important points very well.

I agree Christians’ apolitical stance smacks of ingratitude for God’s mercy and blessings. I shudder to think that America is reaping what we sew.

I think that you hit on the main point when you began.
If it is Biblical, why deny it!? Pastors who comprimise due
to membership numbers and tithings, are guilty of being a
part of the anti-GOD, woke culture in America!

Amen!!!! Jesus called out the corruption in His day. If we say nothing about the corruption, total lack of leadership, and all of the areas where our leaders are completely letting us down, then we are complicit, or worse, just as guilty. By allowing evil voices to speak louder than ourselves, we are left with a country that has completely lost its moral compass. We must pray and speak up

Just think, there are usually close to 100 or more churches in each county of the State of Texas. If the Pastors of only half of these churches in each county were to “lead” their congregants to Washington DC to make a statement against homosexuality, against abortion, for prayer in our schools, just in the State of Texas would be overwhelming. There is strength in a multitude of counsel, and in numbers. What a statement that would be for morality and our faith in God.

This pastor doesn’t think like that!
I am not worried about my job!
I am however concerned about harming the ministry, the 501-c3 that helps us to run a foodbank which helps over 600 households monthly. (note: I didn’t say worried)
I commonly speak out about abortion and other sin that is spoken of in the Bible!
I also am quick to point out that Jesus loves the sinner! (and hates the sin)
I do mention politics from the pulpit, but it is not the theme of every message! It is only mentioned when there is a political issue that is also addressed in the Bible.

If I may ask, why would you think that becoming politically involved and speaking out against immoral laws would harm the ministry?

Truly, who takes care of your church, you or God? Who built your church (the congregants in it), you or God? Then why would you be concerned of harming the ministry or losing your 501-C3 tax emption when you believe all the money that you have now in the church came from God? If you get involved in politics and laws that are immoral, do you think God will abandon you?

It is so sad when pastors of churches do not speak out about social issues and the attempts of the Evil One to distract and confuse God’s children. The spirit of religion is alive and well, and Satan is using it . Christians in our nation need to hear from pastors about these issues, how to pray against the evil that has taken root in our society. We are living in the End Times. We need guidance and drection from our shepherds about how these issues are wrong, and the need for intercessory prayer to combat them. Lord, please, raise up bold leaders who are unafraid to deal with the political issues of the day. Their boldness and obedience will override their fears. In Jesus’ holy name.

The Church has been neutered as a force for truth and freedom in the world. Pastors in big city churches especially, worldwide, long ago abandoned their Biblical mandate to speak truth to power. The result is akin to the ship chaplain on the Titanic knowing that there was an iceberg ahead but refusing to say a word about it to the Captain, ships officers or passengers. Very hard to excuse or justify.

The other issue churches face is due to the tax-exempt status. Who cares anymore? Let’s get political, forget tax-exemption, and do the work Christ called us to do. Time to draw the line and take a stand has already come. We are in the world, but we are not to be “of” the world. God, give us all the courage and strength to take the stand we need to. Show pastors the way. Give them supporting arms from Aarons and Joshuas and Calebs. Amen.

I saw two arguments in this article one the pastor would be afraid he’s fired two there was a fear that there would be members lost which also has to do with money. I’ve never had a time in my life when the church was so separate from what was going on in the world. I don’t think a pastor has to be political in order to speak to issues that are clearly biblical. It’s not a matter of endorsing a candidate or a party. It’s a matter of preaching biblical world view and truth. I fail to understand why pastors do not see that sitting in their congregation are people who are struggling with these issues who need direction from God‘s word. We have to ask ourselves to evaluate the past and see what needs to be changed in order to address where we are today. I believe that begins with prayer we have to ask God what his opinion is of our church and our fellowship and our believers and begin to address the needs as they’re presented from that evaluation in the Holy Spirit. It’s not about politics it’s about God’s plan, discipleship, and doing more than having social activities that we interpret to be evangelistic.

    Charlene,
I agree with your well-put observations, particularly:
“It’s not a matter of endorsing a candidate or a party. It’s a matter of preaching biblical world view and truth. I fail to understand why pastors do not see that sitting in their congregation are people who are struggling with these issues who need direction from God‘s word.”
Also, being involved in the political process both by voting and becoming or supporting a righteous candidate have to do with stewardship. GOD has blessed our nation with a Christian foundation, including biblically-based governing documents and it is the responsibility of the Holy-Spirit-inspired- and-empowered ekklesia to ensure that our leadership conforms to those established principles, for the welfare of ALL.
Just as GOD has established parents to be the authorities over their children to “bring them up in the way they should go,” it is the church’s responsibility to surrender to and promote Holy Spirit’s leading in governmental issues.

As you concluded, “It’s not about politics it’s about God’s plan, discipleship, and doing more than having social activities that WE INTERPRET to be evangelistic.” [emphasis added]

Our “church” gatherings are to be for equipping so that the world SEES and embraces GODLY lives/lifestyles modeled as they encounter and are discipled by DISCIPLES of Christ.

A true shepherd’s ( pastor) main concern is for the sheep of G-D, and most importantly have faith in G-D for His provisions, for his (pastors) needs in life.
G-D provides for our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. We walk by faith not by sight. Lean not on your own understanding. Many churches closed their door when covid 19 hit. Leprosy was highly contagious, Jesus showed believers in Him how to handle sickness and disease, cast it out!! He showed who it came from, and He defeated him( Satan) and gave us His power and authority to do the same. Jesus said, go into all the world and preach the gospel of the Good News, heal the sick and raise the dead. Too many leaders are teaching a Jesus of the “world” and not the Jesus of Nazareth.
Fear not ONLY believe!!.. in Jesus and walk in His power and authority pastors, and teach His sheep to do the same!

My pastor closed for a short time and decided it was wrong and has said “Never again will we shut the church doors.” A few have stood against the government for two reasons. First the Constitution of the United States is our governing authority. Second, Hebrews tells us to not forsake the assembling of ourselves. We cannot assemble by way of TV or computer.

It’s become obvious that the church has abandoned it to responsibility to know and teach the Word of God. We just recently left our church of 10 years because the pastor taught from the Bible very lightly…and never taught on anything that would be controversial in our culture! You can’t really teach much of the Bible if you avoid topics that would be culturally controversial!! We found a church in our area where the Word is taught, in depth, every Sunday!! It’s so refreshing to finally hear the truth, God’s truth in church by a pastor and teachers who are not afraid of offending someone!!

Remember Evangelical Anabaptist believe historically that born again Christains are first Citizens of Heaven then US or Canada etc. Which is played out in putting our emphasis on evangelism not politics. After all; all men our sinners and the best of govermental institutions is tainted with sin. If we put the money and effort into winning the lost instead of trying to changing what at best, can be is a less sinful institution, where would l we be. The only way to change our society is for people to make the decision to follow Christ. The only way to change government is to live a consistent spirit filled life, tell the Gospel story to friends and neighbors invite them to follow Christ. If the Holy Spirit would move in a third Great Awakening, and we had a plurality of Born Again people then our society would change. That is the only way we will see America and Canada bring about holy and just laws. The political activism is Satan’s way to decieve the church from fulfilling the Great Commision.

Jesus said to occupy until His return. He is the Head we are His body. He Carry’s the government on His shoulder. He is all about government. There is a scripture that says, He is King and He is governor among all the nations. Politics is corrupt we sit quietly back in our pews and separate ourselves from laws that are made by politicians, starting with aborting from the womb the ones made in His very image. And we don’t want to get involved in government affairs because it’s political.. it’s demonic and we must occupy the land He has put us in until His return. Remember the Parable of the Master who gave His servants talents and told them to multiply it until His return. He told the Church to occupy. He didn’t say occupy the church! The Church is to go out and occupy The scripture is filled with examples of godly people taking over wicked land ( governments) and occupying. G-D has blessed this nation with the authority “ WE THE PEOPLE” it’s our responsibility to use our voices and authority in gov. Religion, family, media, arts and entertainment, education, etc. Do you see how we advocated our authority to wicked people who got into politics and are taking over this land. We must get involved in these areas of everyday living.

Certainly sharing the gospel in word and how we live is important. The Bible has a lot to say about the sanctity of life and abortion, a lot to say about deviant sexual behaviors etc. Witnessing and Bible teaching on moral political issues are BOTH needed.

And you just talked yourself into being comfortable and safe, not getting involved with immoral laws and politics. If you see a man cut open and bleeding and you have the skill and utensils to help this man, do you just pray for him or do you pray and sew him up saving his life. Remember, many have talked themselves into believing their immoral homosexual lifestyle is ok with God. They’ve ignored the conviction of the Holy Spirit enough and now it’s as though their conscience was seared with a red hot iron.

It’s not against the law to preach politics from the pulpit. But if it were, that shouldn’t stop preachers from preaching the truth! It’s like our pastor said, the world has gone dark because the church has. Why have we allowed the slaughtering of babies and the selling of their parts? Why??? Because pastors haven’t “preached politics” from the pulpit! Why are our children being bombarded with sexually explicit material in school? Because preachers haven’t “preached politics ” from the pulpit!! It’s not only the preacher’s. It’s also Christians who have stayed silent and not stood up for the truth. When the church isn’t THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD .. DARKNESS TAKES OVER!! When preachers are afraid to preach about sin they’re only hirelings. When Christians align themselves with any political party that supports ungodly policies….. something is also wrong there also!! We not to compromise with the world but stand for TRUTH! Talking about these issues isn’t political…It’s biblical….John the Baptist got his head cut off because he confronted King Herod ( a political figure) with his sin. John certainly entered into the political arena!

Pastors are called to the ministry – it is not a job. Pastors are the shepherd of their flock.

Decades ago the shepherd of our congregation made a comment from the pulpit about a hot topic issue of that time. A lady in the church instantly stood, walked out of the church saying “you are not telling me how to vote”. It was just a comment that fit into his message. He was preaching the Word in season.

The shepherd is to guide and protect and pray over his sheep. And set an example. Pastors have a responsibility to calm any infighting between members of his flock as was done by Paul.

It a hard line to walk, but if the shoe fits, wear it.

Pastors should serve as unto God, not men. They should preach truth, which is God’s Living Word, not whatever the culture calls “truth” at the time. Churches supporting BLM is an example of the light inviting the darkness in, as BLM is Marxist and atheistic, so is completely anti-God at its core, which is reflected in its “fruit.” (burned down cities, murders, its founders getting rich and buying mansions, while leaving destroyed neighborhoods and lives in their wake) If we don’t hear Truth from our pulpits, from our pastors, where will we hear it? “if the salt loses its saltiness” . . . we are in trouble! The reason why they aren’t more political is because they have negotiated terms with the evil that is in the land.

They don’t call out abortion as MURDER because that could interrupt cashflow.
They don’t call gender dysphoria as “SPIRITUAL OPPRESSION” because they do not want to draw fire from the political left.
They don’t call out CRT as “MARXIST IDEOLOGY” because they don’t want to engage a battle with leftists armed with race cards.

Or worse – they are often at perfect peace with all of this, hiding behind the whole “we don’t want to be political” veil.

Stop negotiating terms with evil. Call it what it is and hit it head-on.

We war not against flesh and blood but against powers of darkness, principalities……most churches never mention this and hide their deliverance ministries from the congregation ……if they even have a deliverance ministry. They hide it as if it will scare the body of Christ. If we don’t understand who our real enemy is, how can we fight it???? !In my humble opinion, church leaders should be calling the body together constantly to worship, repent, and pray in agreement against the works of our real enemy…..Satan. The people who are committing such evil in this land are bound by demonic strongholds that need to be broken by the body of Christ.

This is why I love the ekklesia movement of meeting in homes to worship without a hired pastor. We are free to discuss any political issue and no one has to worry about losing their job. Acts 5:29 We must obey God rather than man. This is the very reason our country is in the situation we are in. The church is supposed to be the gatekeeper for the nation and we have whimped out. Our Pastor Of GraceWoodlands and head of Grace International has been bold to preach on every subject and continually have speakers come to address them too. As soon as he could legally open the church during Covid, he had services without missing a Sunday. The church has grown since then as many are hungry for answers on how to look at all the issues Biblically, approach them from a Biblical worldview. A statistic was told us that revealed far too many Christians including Pastors do not have. a Biblical World view and therefore do not preach the Truth. We at the church rely on Prayer meetings on Wednesday being the biggest service. And then being active in the community.. He is the boldest preacher I know and it gives those who dare to act to be bold too.

It’s time pastors did what the thing Old Testament prophets did was advise king’s and exhort the nation to godliness. We have to take a stand on what this country was founded on, not wokeism

Judgment will come upon the Church first. Too many pastors of every denomination, seem to live more like the world than in the world, and love the things of the world more than the things of Heaven. Not all, but too many do. Jesus asked, “When I return, will l find any faith on earth?” If there was really faith in the churches, why do they all hustle for the 501 (3) c and not trust in God to provide and multiply the fish?
