I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we thank You for last night's debate. Continue to expose the beliefs of every republican running and allow Your chosen nominee to rise to the top.
Reading Time: 4 minutes

Wednesday’s primary debate was at some points chaotic, but it did shed light on some of the candidates’ more controversial opinions.

From National Review. The eight Republican presidential hopefuls who participated in Wednesday night’s spirited, and at times unruly, debate went after one another over their ages and qualifications, and their positions on a federal abortion ban and on increasing aid to Ukraine. …

But the eight candidates were generally loath to delve too deep into one critical subject — the subject that Fox New moderator Bret Baier called the “elephant not in the room”— Donald Trump, the former president who is crushing them all in the polls and who refused to even attend the event, choosing instead to sit for an online interview with former Fox host Tucker Carlson.

Trump was mostly ignored for the first hour of the two-hour debate in Milwaukee, Wis. When Baier did bring up the former president — asking the candidates to raise their hands if they would vow to support a Trump candidacy if he were convicted in one of his four indictments — all but two said they would, Chris Christie and Asa Hutchinson, the former governors of New Jersey and Arkansas, respectively. When given a chance to expound on their views of January 6 and Trump’s multiple pending criminal cases, several of the candidates quickly pivoted to lambasting the Department of Justice, casting Trump’s four indictments as the product of political bias. …

Anti-woke entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who seemed happy to take arrows all night, inviting attacks and getting plenty of screen time in the process, said he believed that Trump was “the best president of the 21st Century,” adding, “It’s a fact.” …

Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who many have viewed as best suited to dethrone Trump from the top of the GOP, but who struggled to make much of a splash on Wednesday, seemed to try to dodge a question about whether Mike Pence, who was Trump’s vice president, was right to certify the 2020 election, despite Trump’s call for him not to.

“Mike did his duty. I have no beef with him,” DeSantis conceded.

This election is not about January 6, 2021, DeSantis said. “We have to focus on our future, we have to focus on reversing the decline of our country,” he said, trying to turn the conversation away from Trump. Baier noted that Trump was beating him badly in the polls.

Pence, who was feisty throughout the night, mixing it up with Ramaswamy and at one point getting called out by Baier for talking over him, said he was asked by Trump to prioritize him over the Constitution. “I chose the Constitution, and I always will,” he said.

Christie, the loudest Trump critic in the bunch, said to loud boos that whether or not people think the criminal charges against Trump are right or wrong, the former president’s “conduct is beneath the office of the United States.” …

The debate started with a discussion on economics, framed through the lens of the viral folk song Rich Men North of Richmond. Asked why the song about economic alienation was striking a nerve, DeSantis led with a canned talking point. “Our country is in decline. This decline is not inevitable, it is a choice,” he said, before taking a shot at Congress. “Those rich men north of Richmond have put us in this position.”

Christy said spending by Congress is “robbing our country, and it is wrong.” Scott championed the tax cut package he helped to write and pass. …

Ramaswamy introduced himself as a “skinny guy with the funny last name,” a line that drew comparisons to Barack Obama’s introduction of himself at the 2004 Democratic National Convention as a “skinny kid with a funny name.”

At 38, Ramaswamy was the youngest candidate on stage and the most spirited — throwing verbal punches at his competitors and taking some of the more extreme positions of the night. He called the other candidates “Super PAC puppets.” He declared that he was “the only one on the stage that isn’t bought and paid for.” He called climate change a “hoax.”

When all the candidates were asked if they opposed more funding for Ukraine, Ramaswamy’s hand went up first and highest. DeSantis hedged. …

The candidates are all pro-life, but debated the practicality of pushing for a national abortion ban. Haley urged the candidates to be honest with the American people and to acknowledge that a Republican president can’t pass a national ban without winning 60 votes in the Senate.

Pence said that is why the country needs a leader on the issue. He vowed to be a “champion for life in the Oval Office.”

Scott said he supports a national abortion ban at 15 weeks, “minimum.” …

DeSantis said he didn’t regret signing a six-week ban in Florida, even though some have said he needs to moderate on the issue. …

Several candidates vowed to fight hard against the fentanyl crisis. DeSantis said he would authorize lethal force at the southern border, and said “darn right” he would treat Mexican cartels at terrorists.

As vice president, Pence said he worked with Mexican leaders to control the border. To end the fentanyl crisis, which he said has brought a “wave of human tragedy,” he vowed to “partner with the Mexican military” and to “hunt down and destroy” the drug cartels. …

The second GOP debate is scheduled for September 27, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif. More debates are expected to be scheduled in the coming months. …

I support Israel and will not vote for anyone who does not stand by Israel.
I thought the debate was pitiful. The moderators questions were weak. It was not a true debate.

I am not sure about DeSantis. But Ramswami should definitely be avoided for his stand against supporting Israel. Mike Pence? My gut tells me Please, God, “Not Mike Pence”.

Father, if Mike Pence is a compromised Democrat pleaser, please bring all the proof we need forward. It will bring you no glory to have a professing Christian in office who is easily manipulated by the Democrats. We need someone who is pliable only in your hands, not the enemy’s. Thank you for hearing and answering our prayers.

After I posted the above, I read an unexpected article on Mike Pence that generated some positive thoughts and hopes. Was it God leading? I am not sure, but because of it, i posted an afterthought on Pence today in this forum, but it somehow went under the post below mine, instead of mine where I had intended to post it.

The debate was well-done and very informative, especially about the newer candidates that I did not know were running. It gave me a chance to hear their plans & policies and to evaluate them for the job. I’ll be listening as well at any future debates broadcast. The U.S. has some very good candidates running for the position. May the Lord’s choice be shown to us all.

After I posted the above, I read an article which showed me Mike Pence in a different light. I read an article how he always endeavored to remain humble with Trump and not let his pride rise up, even when it was a struggle. Here all along we may have felt we were blessed as a nation during the Trump administration because of Trump, BUT just MAYBE it could have been that we, and Trump, were blessed by God because of Pence and his faithfulness. Remember that Pontifer acknowledged to Joseph that he was blessed because Joseph was in charge? And today I felt the Lord was showing me that Pence was like to Trump as David was like to Saul. I learned yesterday that on January 6th, instead of Trump checking on the safety of his friend, his colleague, his VP Mike Pence, he was hurling insults publicly toward him. I have not been of fan of Mike Pence for the past almost 3 years because of January 6th, I saw him as a wimp because of Trump’s words on January 6th, but I believe God changed all that helping me to see Pence as having triumphed and loved Trump with agape love. One of the last things Pence said one on one to Trump was “I will be praying for you”. I don’t know if Mike Pence would be a good president, but I will be praying about it asking God, that if it is God’s will, if God will bless our nation through Pence as president, if it is his time to rule and basically reign over our nation, that God would make it clear to his people and give Mike Pence all the favor he needs with the majority of voters to make it happen.

      GENESIS 39:3-10
Potiphar saw that the LORD was with Joseph and that the was with Joseph and that the LORD helped Joseph be successful in everything he did. So Potiphar was very happy with Joseph. He allowed Joseph to work for him and to help him rule the house. Joseph was the ruler over everything Potiphar owned. After Joseph was made the ruler over the house, the LORD blessed the house and everything that Potiphar owned. The LORD also blessed everything that grew in Potiphar’s fields. The Lord did this because of Joseph.

genesis 30:27 And Laban said to him, “Please stay, if I have found favor in your eyes, for I have learned by experience that the LORD has blessed me for your sake.”

Dear Friends, I sometimes wonder how many of you who support Donald Trump are aware that while he was in office Ivanka Trump had something like 34(?) of her trademarks approved for manufacture in China? I am not attacking her or Donald Trump. And this may not be important to most but is something that is widely known in the business world. (One source is Forbes, Sept 22, 2020. Forbes is a business magazine which means it is not focused on politics.)

If the American people don’t want the relatives of their politicians involved in foreign businesses while their family member is in office, the way to do that is to lobby your representative for a law which makes it unlawful. There is a law which goes the other way. the Foreign Corrupt Practice Act, which makes it unlawful for American corporations to hire princelings of other countries. It is enforced. JP Morgan had to pay something like $123 million to the SEC for hiring the child of a Chinese politician.

There was no need for President Trump to debate. He is far ahead in the polls. Many of the Republican candidates at the debate have been bought and paid for but not President Trump. He is for “we the people.” I heard that Trump came into office not knowing the Lord and came out a child of God. A woman whose name I can’t remember at this time, witnessed his prayer of salvation. God is on the move and is going to save America and bring millions to Christ for His glory. Trump is definitely being used by the Lord to restore righteousness back into our very wicked evil nation. Father God, keep President Trump and his family and all other patriots safe. Destroy and bring down the schemes and plans of the wicked. In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen!
Keep praying we are headed into a difficult season.

I agree, SS. Great post. We Americans owe President Trump a great debt for his exposing the Swamp and for his showing our country how to be great again – patriotic, prosperous, and reverent of our Lord Jesus.

I am SO thankful for him!

It’s no wonder at all that Satan threw a complete fit over President Trump’s presidency. And his demonic Democrat Party politician/minions and “useful idiot” voters have been foaming at the mouth ever since in an attempt to make sure a good Christian never serves in the White House again.

I am very proud of all these fine Republican candidates who continue to battle Satan’s “Swamp” and who fight to regain American freedoms and liberties that the Democrats are demolishing. I am praying to Lord Jesus to return President Trump to the White House to lead America back to God and to sanity and prosperity again.

SS please be careful with your words. Nobody can be used by the zlord to restore righteousness other than Jesus Christ. Let’s not ever diminish our true Lord and Savior and His sacrifice on yhe cross. Yes, our nation is bound up with wicked and evil practices and President Trump has been the target of many of these schemes, but righteousness comes only from heaven by the Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. The is no other means.

I read … I thought BEFORE the election … that an “evangelist Paula White” (I’m pretty sure I’m right re her name and calling) led Trump in … in a prayer to accept Christ. I’ve never seen any confirmation or retelling of that…only that Paula White (about whom I know nothing) had been associated with him … before the election … I’ve heard nothing of her since.

I appreciated the clarity the debate brought about the different candidates’ positions on energy, the climate, international diplomacy, Ukrainian support and the economy. I think it was a good thing that Donald Trump didn’t attend, so that the focus could be on the issues.

Was pleasantly surprised at Nikki Haley’s grasps of the issues. Her clarity on how our power industry and transportation industry was growing dependence on China was well-said. She was the only one who pointed out that the war in Ukraine slowed Russia and China’s aggression and was the only one who reminded everyone that Russia planned to expand its influence into more countries after Ukraine. She pointed out that the money sent to Ukraine was only a small part of our defense budget.

All of the candidates supported Mike Pence’s decision about electoral votes. Mike Pence made a declaration of his faith. He emphasized his contribution to the Trump-Pence successes.

At the beginning of the debate, DeSantis struggled to make an impression but toward the end made a good case for his successes as governor.

Thank you, Lord, for raising up good candidates for the office of president.
