What Is the Lord’s Heart for the Courts?
On May 17, 2026, we witnessed the transcendent rededication of America to God, in the name of Jesus, by the leaders of this nation. It was exactly 250 years to the day after the leaders of America, gathered in the Second Continental Congress, called for a national day of humiliation, fasting, and prayer—just weeks before declaring independence from Britain.
Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.
This humbling of ourselves before the Lord and the act of reclaiming this land for Him carry profound historical significance and, more importantly, deep Biblical significance. When we look back through the pages of Scripture and the history of our nation, we see a powerful pattern: revival, miracles, and the outpouring of God’s blessings follow seasons of fervent prayer, genuine repentance, and hearts turned back toward Him.
Across this land, we have witnessed individuals and groups coming together with renewed passion and conviction to Recount, Reclaim, and Rededicate themselves, their communities, historical landmarks, county seats, churches, families, properties, schools, and so much more to the one true God. We have heard testimonies of answered prayers and breakthroughs from those who have faithfully contended in prayer for these places and communities following their rededication.
We believe these acts of humility, faith, and obedience have blessed the heart of the Lord. And yet, we know this is not the end—it is a call to continue pressing in through prayer, repentance, and unwavering faith. We are standing boldly on the promises of God, believing for a mighty spiritual awakening across this nation and for America to turn wholeheartedly back to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the one true and living God, the King of kings and Lord of lords, above all, beside whom there is no other. May our nation humble itself before Him, seek His face, turn from its wicked ways, and once again become a nation that honors Him in word, deed, and spirit. May all glory, honor, and praise be given to Him alone, in the mighty name of Jesus!
I, like many of you, shudder at the thought of what our judicial system has done in this nation. We have watched violent criminals be set free, only to go on to maim or murder innocent people who were simply trying to live their lives. When justice is perverted, innocent lives are endangered, and the very foundations of our society are shaken.
The Supreme Court has handed down decisions that have undermined America’s Biblical heritage, eroded our religious freedoms, and challenged the moral foundations upon which this nation was built. There are many cases we could examine, but in this article, we will focus on several major decisions that have had a profound impact on our nation.
- 1962 — Engel v. Vitale: The Court ruled that state-sponsored prayer in public schools was unconstitutional, even when the prayer was nondenominational, and participation was voluntary.
- 1963 — Abington School District v. Schempp: The Court ruled that public schools could not conduct devotional Bible readings and recitation of the Lord’s Prayer as part of public-school exercises. This decision later became part of the legal landscape surrounding the Lemon test, which was used for decades to evaluate alleged violations of the Establishment Clause.
- 1980 — Stone v. Graham: The Court struck down a Kentucky law requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in public-school classrooms.
- 1973 — Roe v. Wade: The Court recognized a constitutional right to abortion under its interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment, a decision that remained in place for nearly five decades until it was overturned in 2022 by Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
- 2015 — Obergefell v. Hodges: The Court ruled that the Fourteenth Amendment requires every state to license same-sex marriages and recognize such marriages lawfully performed in other states.
- 2020 — Texas v. Pennsylvania: The Court declined to hear Texas’s lawsuit challenging election procedures in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin, concluding that Texas lacked standing to bring the case.
These cases raise profound questions about the role of the judiciary, the meaning of constitutional rights, and the direction of our nation. For those of us who know that our rights come from God, that life is sacred, that marriage is an institution established by God, and that religious liberty must be protected, these decisions represent deeply troubling departures from the principles we hold dear and upon which our nation was founded.
What happens when the highest court in the land makes decisions that push God out of the public square, diminish the protection of innocent human life, redefine an institution established by God, and leave serious concerns about election integrity unresolved? What happens when the very institution entrusted with interpreting our Constitution issues rulings that conflict with the moral foundations of our nation?
We must confront these questions with courage, conviction, and a commitment to truth. We must understand our nation’s history, examine the consequences of these judicial decisions, and stand firm in defending our God-given rights and constitutional freedoms. We cannot remain silent while the principles we believe are essential to the survival of our nation are challenged. We must pray, speak boldly, and stand unwaveringly for truth, justice, and righteousness.
In 2 Chronicles 19:4- 11, it says, “Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and turned them back to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. He appointed judges in the land, in each of the fortified cities of Judah. He told them, “Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.” In Jerusalem also, Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites, priests and heads of Israelite families to administer the law of the Lord and to settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem. He gave them these orders: “You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the Lord. In every case that comes before you from your people who live in the cities—whether bloodshed or other concerns of the law, commands, decrees or regulations—you are to warn them not to sin against the Lord; otherwise his wrath will come on you and your people. Do this, and you will not sin. “Amariah the chief priest will be over you in any matter concerning the Lord, and Zebadiah son of Ishmael, the leader of the tribe of Judah, will be over you in any matter concerning the king, and the Levites will serve as officials before you. Act with courage, and may the Lord be with those who do well.”
God is our ultimate judge, but He has established the judicial system. This dates back to Moses in the wilderness, who established a hierarchy of judges. Courts originated under Moses when his father-in-law, Jethro, advised him to appoint capable, God-fearing men to handle everyday disputes and ease the governing burden.
God’s word is very clear on the role and importance of judges. Judges were commanded to show no favoritism, reject bribes, and treat the rich and the poor equally (Deuteronomy 16:18–20). In the biblical context, courts of justice were established to maintain order, administer justice, and uphold the laws given by God. Local communities appointed judges and elders for minor civic and property matters. A higher court—comprising Levitical priests and a chief judge at the central sanctuary—handled difficult, complex cases.
During the era before the monarchy, biblical judges (such as Deborah, Gideon, and Samson) functioned as charismatic regional deliverers and military leaders who rescued Israel from foreign oppressors and restored covenantal order.
Judges served as representatives of God rather than human whim; 2 Chronicles 19:6–7 reminds judges that they judge on behalf of the Lord, who detests injustice and partiality. Legal accusations required a thorough investigation and the testimony of two or three witnesses to establish wrongdoing (Deuteronomy 19:15).
Isaiah 33:22 notes that God is Israel’s ultimate Judge, Lawgiver, and King. Human courts are meant to shadow His perfect equity, and every person is ultimately accountable to the Divine standard. Courts and judges in ancient Israel operated as extensions of divine order, representing God rather than man.
The lasting repercussions of evil rulings are pervasive and terrifying. What we have seen following the hell-ordained decisions in the above cases has reverberated throughout this land for over 60 years.
The doors opened to evil through these unrighteous decisions have contributed to the pervasive moral degradation we see sweeping across this land. We see children growing up without a firm foundation of identity, questioning their God-given worth and being taught that they are merely accidents of nature, descended from animals rather than created in the image of God. We have witnessed not only the rare and tragic circumstances of abortion, but the widespread acceptance of abortion on demand, including late-term abortions, while the blood of more than 60 million unborn babies cries out from this land. We see the fight to preserve abortion as a so-called right, even at the expense of innocent, defenseless human life. We see sexual immorality flooding every level of society, murder and violence ravaging our communities, lawlessness increasing, the innocence of our children being stripped away, confusion replacing truth, and the consequences of turning away from God’s ways bearing down upon our nation. These are not isolated problems; they are symptoms of a nation in desperate need of repentance and spiritual awakening.
As we have Recounted, Reclaimed and Rededicated this land back to God, we must do likewise for the court system. If you, like me, have been so angry at times at the unjust decisions that have come down from the court, we need to rally together to pray and seek the Lord for forgiveness and a Holy Spirit consecration of the courts.
This past Sunday and Monday were filled with such a consecration of the Supreme Court of the United States of America. On Sunday night, a prayer and worship service with communion was held at the steps of SCOTUS.
We repented, we sought the Lord for forgiveness. We prayed for a mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit to come and sweep through the halls and the hearts and minds of each justice, associate justices, principal court officers, and their personal/support staff.
On Monday, we prayed and interceded on behalf of each Supreme Court justice by name, with a discussion of each of their backgrounds, making them seem more human, more relatable. Our very own David Kubal led in prayer for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, as well as closing the session out with a prayer of blessing over the Supreme Court and Federal Courts. We heard stories of the justices’ fears because of violent threats being made against them, along with the miraculous interventions by God to save their very lives. We heard the raw truth that they, because of fear of man, fear from violent threats, fear for the safety of their families, caved into the threats and opposed or supported something they should not.
The stories tugged at our hearts and, for me, put a real conviction in my spirit to pray fervently for each justice, not just the ones who consistently rule righteously.
We even learned of a way to protect all life in the womb across America. This pathway looks like this: the originalists in the Supreme Court, of which there is a majority, recognizing the right to Life in the Life clauses in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. This recognition could then be applied to Life’s original meaning and forever protect LIFE from commencement. Imagine that!! Let’s storm the gates of heaven for this!
We have heard trusted prophetic voices warn that America faces a critical decision in the upcoming elections and months ahead: Will we follow the sword of the Lord or the sword of evil through Islam?
Yet, we must not respond with fear, but with faith and hope in God. We must keep praying, interceding, engaging the culture, standing for Biblical truth, voting in every election, and encouraging others to do the same.
We cannot grow weary or stop contending for this nation. We believe America can turn back to God, and we must stand in faith for its salvation and restoration. As one prophetic voice declared, “America shall be saved.”
The Lord promises in Proverbs 29:2 that “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn”. We must pray for those in authority to be righteous, to judge rightly, and that the righteous will be elected to positions of authority and power. The judicial system was established to judge on behalf of God. Make no mistake, if the judges will not rule righteously, God will deal treacherously with them.
“Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless. What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches? Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain.” Isaiah 10: 1-4
When judges walk in righteousness, Psalm 72:1–3 points to the blessings that flow when justice is administered rightly. Righteous judgment brings righteousness and prosperity to the people.
As intercessors, we must faithfully and fervently pray for the justices, judges, and courts across this nation—that our judicial system would return to what God intended it to be. Let us pray for protection over judges and their families, for wisdom and discernment, and that they would have the mind of Christ and hear clearly from Him so their decisions reflect truth, justice, and His perfect will.
Will you join fellow prayer warriors and me in standing in the gap and contending in prayer for the soul of our nation?
Holy and mighty God and Father, we love You, and we praise You for the Holy and righteous design of our judicial system. We thank You for the justices who honor and serve You in all that they do and even in the face of death threats and violence. We thank You for the righteous rulings that we have surely seen in this nation. Oh Lord, we grieve with You for the evil and unrighteous rulings that have been rendered. We repent on behalf of this evil and the curses that have surely come on this land. Oh Father, please forgive the judges and please pour out Your mercy. Please speak to them, convict them, and set up a Divine encounter with You so that they will know You, honor You, and Your ways. We ask You to cleanse the land and Your people from the defilement that has come upon it. We plead the better blood of Jesus over this nation, and we seek You for a Divine outpouring to turn this nation back to You, to walk with You, to fulfill the Holy mandate You have on America. Father, please urge every intercessor to faithfully pray for the judicial system and the justices to seek You and make judgments in accordance with Your Holy will. Thank You, Lord, for the answers to these requests. We love You, and we give You all the glory!! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
