I Prayed have prayed
Lord, may our leaders be responsible and focused on their constitutional duties to wisely steward real elements of infrastructure of this nation. May this land flourish under You.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Infrastructure is a word we’ve been hearing a lot. It’s a good, strong word. If we support healthy infrastructure, it just seems like we’re doing right by the country, doesn’t it?

Except as I hear more and more about the $2.25 trillion “infrastructure” proposal touted by Democrats in Washington, I keep thinking of a famous line of Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

Actually, I’m more concerned that politicians do know what the word means — that some may simply be ignoring it.

Merriam Webster offers a definition of “underlying foundation or basic framework” as well as “the system of public works.” Traditionally, in the realm of public policy you would think about bridges, roads, rail, ports, and other bedrock networks that link our nation together.

This is, in fact, a sphere that officials in Washington, D.C., should engage. Strength in these assets is vital to the security and flourishing of our nation, and our forefathers wisely gave the federal government a role in taking care of them. Article 1, Section 8, of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress powers to regulate interstate commerce and to establish postal roads connecting the nation.

Of note, President Dwight D. Eisenhower later observed, “Our unity as a nation is sustained by free communication of thought and by easy transportation of people and goods… Together, the uniting forces of our communication and transportation systems are dynamic elements in the very name we bear —United States. Without them, we would be a mere alliance of many separate parts.”

So President Joe Biden and Members of Congress are on solid ground to care about our nation’s infrastructure. They are also right to note that our traditional sectors of infrastructure — roads, bridges, water systems, etc. —  are in an alarming state. We have not kept up with proper maintenance, and now the American Society of Civil Engineers gives our infrastructure a C- on its most recent report card. That’s up from a D+ 4 years ago, but not satisfactory and certainly not securing a pathway of future flourishing.

There are many opinions about how much money to spend on infrastructure and how to find that money. That is a next-level conversation based on an essentially similar understanding of infrastructure’s sectors.  I won’t press into budget lines in this article (but certainly we should be mindful that a billion dollars here and there do add up quickly). What concerns me now is the word “infrastructure” being commandeered for a political wish list, which then undermines a truly healthy and productive process.

In a recent FOX News interview, Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), the top Republican lawmaker on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said, “I think the expansive definition of infrastructure that we see in this sort of ‘Green New Deal wish list’ is called into question. I don’t think that the American people when they think of infrastructure are thinking of home health aides and other things that are included in this bill.”

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was even more pointed. “Our nation could use a serious, targeted infrastructure plan. There would be bipartisan support for a smart proposal,” he said. But he called the Biden proposal a “missed opportunity” and “a Trojan horse for the largest set of tax hikes in a generation.”

America’s leaders do need to take responsible action to reinforce our nation’s physical infrastructure. But misusing words, even for immediate ends that could have real merit, is a recipe for continued erosion of another deeper, intangible “infrastructure” — public trust.

Let’s pray that for truth and wisdom to prevail.

How will you pray today for the physical and intangible infrastructure of our nation?

Another nice and highly deceptive title to another bill the left is trying to continue to push their agenda. It has very little to do with infrastructure. They want to change the meaning of he word, again, to deceive people. This bill may have a lot do do with the Green New Deal. Dear Lord help our leaders be wise and responsible to their constitutional duties to steward real elements of infrastucture. In Jesus name, Amen.

Sue – my reply was to Marsha Banks sad and rude comment. I’m not sure why it ended up in the place it did on this reply stream. My apologies. You and I and many others are in agreement regarding what infrastructure “actually is”.

Father God, I praise You in this storm!

https://youtu.be/nBj9NLPa2cs

PRAISE YOU IN THIS STORM LYRICS:

I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away, stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say, Amen and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain, “I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls I raise my hands
And praise the God who gives and takes away

And I’ll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry, You raised me up again
But my strength is almost gone
How can I carry on if I can’t find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain, “I’m with you”
And as You mercy falls I raise my hands
And praise the God who gives and takes away

And I’ll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth
And I’ll praise You in this storm and I will lift my hands
For You are who You are no matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried You hold in Your hand
You never left my side and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

Aaron,

It is funny that you quote Dwight D. Eisenhower in your article as well as the Princess’ Bride.

You made the claim that Democrats may not know what the word infrastructure means, but all you showed in this article is that the meaning of infrastructure alludes you.

Dwight D. Eisenhower passed many such infrastructure bills during his tenure, and actually if you read the bill itself, you will see that most of the developmental points are returning back to and strengthening infrastructure initiatives started by Eisenhower: cross-country trains, public health, etc.

Also, you fail to mention that this is one of the most popular bills with American voters on both sides of the aisle this year. It has a 74% approval rating with American voters. That statistic comes from both sides of the aisle.

Really makes me wonder what monetary incentive you are receiving where you would want to prevent infrastructure development in America. We want to leave this country better for our children and bills like this are the way to go. Why do you stand in the way of improvement? Do you want to watch this country return to the third world?

Infrastructure: I borrowed from the cookie jar to pay the piggy bank account I had used to the coffee can: but don’t let hubby know I hawked the golf club he so much loved and can’t find : he thinks he missed placed them : oh America we need to pray against the enemies within our nation : that make laws to plunder from the people .that GOD OF HEAVEN will mercifully judge the crooks in our nation’s political arena. In JESUS YESHUA NAME restore 7×70 what has been stolen from the American people.

Antonio Gramshe was an Italian communist, who advocated the idea of taking over a nation by infiltration and redefining key words to promote his Marxist agenda. When Bill Clinton was the Atty. Gen. of AR, he spent some time in Italy studying Gramshe’s ideas. On the day Clinton returned to the USA, someone in the Italian media asked him if he planned to use any of Granshe’s ideas in the USA. His reply was, “Absolutely!” However, this problem goes back much further than Conrade Clinton. In 1913, when the states voted on the 16th & 17th Amendments, Pres. Taft redefined the meaning of the word, passed, to mean approve. The original meaning of the word, passed, was similar to the card game of Bridge. When bridge players didn’t want to bid, they would say, “Pass.” In other words, passed, meant to take no action. Many states refused to take any action either for or against the 16th & 17th Amendments. The tally of how each state voted showed they either approved, disapproved, or passed. There were so many states that passed that neither amendment was really approved. Pres. Taft lied to the American people when he said they were approved. In 1918, the Supreme Court ruled, “Wages are not income.” The court went on to explain that income should be defined as a profit. Because a person’s wage was equal to the value of their labor, they had no profit. However, there were enough communists, who infiltrated our federal government at that time to declare a person’s labor as worthless, so their wage could then be redefined as a profit. The Supreme Court repeated their 1918 ruling around 1923. The Constitution says, “No state shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate without its consent.” Thus, the 17th Amendment required 100% of the states to approve it. There were 7 states that voted against it and several more that passed. Pres. Taft ignored this provision of the Constitution and redefined passed to mean approved and crammed this amendment down our throats. Taft was a member of the Illuminati. And this is the rest of the story. During the 1980’s I used my rights under FOIA to obtain the federal documents to prove this. When the Lord sent me overseas as a missionary, I gave those documents to a conservative talk radio host.

I will pray for wisdom, truth and accountability to prevail. That will only be accomplished when the infrastructure of hearts is God’s word, so I will pray for revival in our land, starting in the homes of families and reaching the halls of Congress, the Supreme Court and the White House. I will pray that unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats will cease to exist. There is no provision for them in our constitution and no place for them in our lives.

Mr. Mercer is kind in the way he wrote this article. I refuse to be as diplomatic.
The reason for this democratic pork filled “rude of a bill” has little to do with infrastructure. If what they were proposing actually all went to that, our nation would be flourishing economically once it was applied. That is the last thing today’s democrats (and some RINO’s) want. Instead, they want to pay back “political IOU’s or gain band-aid favor” from the eyes of taxpayers and corporations at the risk of crippling our economy for decades. They know we don’t have the money or the support for their pet projects of waste and foolishness but the only way to get it is to tack on their deception to a bill we actually do need.
The deceit and corruption in DC must come to a halt. These people pushing forth their wasteful garbage spending and then deceiving taxpayers by calling it “infrastructure” has to stop. There seems to be so little honesty left in certain politicians today that I’m not sure how they can even look anyone in the eye anymore.
God we continue to ask that the people of our nation would see and stand up for the truth. *We pray that You Lord, will remove and replace those working in government who purposely lie and deceive – those who love corruption… replace them with those who love and want to honor You Lord and desire to work to be a true servant of the people. Amen.

Amen, well said! I believe these politicians must think the public is stupid! Infrastructure has nothing to do with their social program and payback agenda! How we need Statesmen, not greedy politicians, in our government! Write, text, e-mai, call, etc. your Congressmen and women and let them know, this is NOT acceptable! We’ve been silent too long!!

Wow – what a rude comment. Doesn’t matter how many Republicans signed on. It just means they also have no backbone or integrity. In the arena of compromising deceptive politics, there are many who say they represent America but those are merely dead words (lies). But then, I’m guessing that doesn’t seem to bother you since “elementary school” level understanding isn’t acceptable in your “opinion”. I truly hope God will help you to understand the difference between real infrastructure spending and “self interpreted, dishonest infrastructure spending”.

This bill was co authored by over 70 Republicans and is extremely popular. What are you going on about? You clearly did not read the bill and you struggle to understand basic American Civics. Maybe leave this one to the people who passed elementary school.

Did you read the above “what does infrastructure really mean?” It doesn’t matter who co-authors a Bill and it is clearly not popular and it shouldn’t be! What matters is that hard working people should not have to pay for “green new deal” projects that have nothing to do with infrastructure. People don’t mind paying for roads, bridges, etc.(that’s infrastructure).
