Thank you Lord for Kirk Cousins and his example of living out his faith. We pray you bless him and his family in 2020.

After his team’s dramatic victory over the Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins chose to give God all the glory.

Cousins rose to the occasion with a 75-yard overtime drive that culminated in a stunning 45-yard touchdown pass to Adam Thielen, securing the historic victory.

But far from boasting of his own abilities in the wake of such an epic performance, Cousins instead chose to remind viewers that his ultimate security and happiness is rooted in Christ.

My faith is important to me, it’s the foundation for my life,” Cousins said in his post-game interview. “Ultimately, that’s where I gain my peace and strength. Win or lose today, God’s still on the throne and I take comfort in that.”

Cousins, who has been criticized for his ability to perform under pressure, has received widespread praise in the sports pages.

“This is a big deal. This is a very big deal,” wrote Mike Freeman at Bleacher Report. “This can’t be emphasized enough. There were many people in football who believed Cousins would never, ever have this signature moment.”

“Not only did he have it, but he also had it in overtime, on the road, against one of the best defenses in the league and in one of the most hostile environments in football,” Freeman added. “In a playoff game. With the game—checks notes—on the line. He did exactly what many thought he’d never do.”

Lord thank you for his public profession of You. Thank you Lord for the example to others of loyalty to you over the work of his hands. I pray a hedge of protection over him and for safety and health so he can continue to be a voice for You. I pray other Christian athletes will be bold in giving You the Glory for their accomplishments and victories. In Jesus name. Amen

Father, where many like myself see football as an idol, you choose athletes to highlight for their skill and given their faith in You a voice. However that works Mr. Cousins has put you on the throne and we raise a halleluia. Being from Minnesota, we often wonder if anything good can come from Minnesota…But God. And we thank You there are lots of good things in Minnesota, just not necessarily sports!

Having done all you knew to do to stand, you gave your Savior and Lord the Glory that some would’ve blindly grasped for themselves. I magnify The Hope and Answer Himself for you, Sir,
thank you for walking and talking Jesus!
My prayer is that The Lord sanctify you wholly, and your house!
Thank you for truly accurately “representing”.

Don’t you just love our only really important job on earth that God had given us? To give Him
the glory? And doesn’t it just put a smile on your heart when you see fellow believers do just that, like QB Cousins?

Here is to our life on earth, praising Our Savior……✝️🙏🎉

Im glad he gave glory to God. That is wonderful in the world of sports where everyone is watching and waiting to see and hear the comments. But Drew Brees is also known for expressing his faith in God and love for his family. And there is always tension when a team plays in their home stadium. The Saints are not necessarily hostile but passionate about their team. So as I rejoice with the news of this mans testimony I’m not happy that you might be judging another team’s character unfairly or any other team for that matter.

Honestly I don’t think anyone was judging the other team. It was more of a statement or observation. Some fans are passionate and some can be hostile. Certain gestures using a finger on one hand toward the referees and the players are “not passion”…that’s called unrighteous anger. While we can dismiss that as a heat of the moment type action, it still took place throughout the stadium as videos showed over and over again.
Athletics bring out the best and worst of people. I was glad to see an underdog team win. That must have done a lot of damage to the oddsmakers who insist that gambling on sports is a “good thing”.
The Saints will be back & they will have another good team. Athletics is a cycle of ups, downs and in-betweens. Character shown on and off the field is more important than wins or losses – that includes fans as well as players.

IFA,
Thanks for publishing Kirk Cousins giving credit to God for the Vikings victory. I am a Viking fan and this strengthens my support for the Vikings – win or lose from now on.

I live in Minnesota and have watched Kirk Cousins throughout his playing time all season. In addition to his witness following a victory, his responses and witness throughout some very tough times filled with criticism and even condemnation have also been filled with grace and humility. I pray that those who can be influenced through the witness of a sports figure will pursue the Lord who inspires Kirk Cousins.

Thank you Lord for the testimony that you gave Kirk. Interesting two Christian quarterbacks going against each other in this playoff game. Praying that we can have more athletes that will speak up for Christ and show who really deserves the glory! And being a Michigan State Spartan fan, I have watched stand up for Jesus Kirk for a while. Yay!!

I praise God first, Kirk, for the fact that He is # 1 in your life! Secondly, before millions of viewers, you openly voiced your strong belief in our Maker, making it clear that God is in control of everything going on in our world, including on the field. I pray you continue to uphold strong faith in God, and as He prompts you, boldly be His mouthpiece to speak His truth. I pray guardian angels around you, your loved ones, and your team. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen!
