A spokesperson for Gov. Ralph Northam said Monday he’s not planning on mandating a COVID-19 vaccine in Virginia, even though his Administration’s top health official supports the idea.
In an interview with 8News on Friday, State Health Commissioner Dr. Norman Oliver said he planned on mandating a coronavirus immunization once it’s safely released to the public. In Virginia, state law gives him the authority to order immediate vaccination ‘of all persons in case of an epidemic of any disease of public health importance for which a vaccine exists.’ The law only includes an exemption for medical reasons.
Dr. Oliver was not available for a follow-up interview on Monday but a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Health sent 8News the following statement:
“When Dr. Oliver spoke of his support of a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine for adults, he was sharing his personal opinion as a physician. Currently, the Northam administration has taken no official policy position on whether or not a COVID-19 vaccine for adults should be mandatory. VDH regrets this error.” (Excerpt from ABC8 News. Virginia’s health commissioner suggested Friday that he will mandate a coronavirus vaccine whenever it becomes widely available, according to a Virginia ABC affiliate.
Virginia State Health Commissioner Dr. Norman Oliver told 8News that he plans to mandate such vaccinations, which health officials expect to be available by 2021.
“It is killing people now, we don’t have a treatment for it and if we develop a vaccine that can prevent it from spreading in the community we will save hundreds and hundreds of lives,” Oliver said of the virus.
State law gives Oliver the authority to mandate immunizations during a public health crisis and only allows people with medical exemptions to refuse the mandate, 8News reported. Oliver said he does not support a proposed Virginia General Assembly bill that would allow people with religious opposition to opt-out of the requirement. . . .
Oliver believes most people will voluntarily comply, according to 8 News.
The state is already using technology from Google and Apple to track citizens who have been exposed to the virus.
Virginia rolled out the Covidwise app on Aug. 5, which asks users to enter a six-digit pin number unique to their coronavirus test lab results. The app will notify other uses of potential exposure once the pin number is submitted, according to Jeff Stover, Executive Program Advisor to the Commissioner at the Virginia Department of Health.
The app notifies ‘close contacts’ using Bluetooth technology that can determine which phones were within six feet of a person who tested positive, Stover told NBC affiliate Wavy10 on Aug. 5. The state is not tracking personal information through the application, Virginia health officials say, according to Wavy10’s report.
“We’re using every possible approach to fight this virus and keep Virginians healthy,” Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said in a statement to AP. “The COVIDWISE app is completely anonymous, protects personal privacy, and gives you an additional tool to protect yourself and your community,” he added while encouraging Virginians to download the application. . . .
The companies insist users will be anonymous, but Hawley said in his letter that such data can be “reidentified simply by cross-referencing it with another data set.” Pairing GPS data with that from the project Google and Apple are embarking on can reveal identities, he said.
Neither Apple nor Google have responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
China uses a similar method for tracking potential positive cases. Beijing officials use a color-based “health code” system to control people’s whereabouts as a means of slowing down the virus while at the same time keeping the death toll to a minimum, CNN reported in April.
The codes, known as QR codes, are assigned to Chinese citizens to designate their health status, CNN reported.
A March 28 Wall Street Journal report noted that officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are using location data from cell phones to analyze movements of American citizens. The data comes from the mobile advertising industry, according to the WSJ report, which cites anonymous sources.
“As true anonymization of location data is nearly impossible, strong legal safeguards are mandatory,” Wolfie Christl, a privacy activist and researcher, told the WSJ in March.
Meanwhile, Northern Virginia does not have a tracking system in place for inmates who have been released early due to fears surrounding the virus, FOX 5 reported Aug. 10. A young woman was murdered in Northern Virginia by a man accused of raping her, media reports show. He was released due to the virus after being previously held without bond, FOX 5 reported.

I will NOT take the vaccine. We are mandated to wear masks when the CDC, an organization I don’t trust, has stated they are ineffective against a virus. Covid has been blown way out of proportion. Additionally it’s been reported the vaccine will only be 40-60% effective. I question what nefarious things will be included. I have rights over what goes onto my body and it won’t be this vaccine.
I have been a pharmacist for over 25 years and can tell you honestly that NO vaccine has been adequately tested for safety or effectiveness. Pharmaceutical companies are dishonest and make billions from our current health care industry. Greed and eugenics philosophies control every decision made by the top decision makers in these companies. The proposed “covid vaccine” is actually anything but a vaccine. There should be no vaccines, especially a mandatory one.
I do not believe in vaccines, let alone mandatory ones. This cannot be allowed to put into existence.
I pray in opposition to all mandated vaccination as well as the intention to force people to vaccinate under pressure by requiring a vaccine in order to be free to work or go anywhere. Both are mandates. I know the vaccine that the President is so happy about will be released soon. I know it’s ingredients and am praying for him to see the light and protect our nation from this terrible trap.
I do not believe the government should be able to track us to control the spread of diseases. A mandate should never be made to require our citizens to receive a vaccine for Covid 19 because there have been too many reports that people like Dr Fauci have plans to add a substance that would make it possible to control the citizens of USA. Dr. Fauci and his friends like Bill Gates have evil plans for our country. The Bible speaks of a world leader in end times that will do such things.

I am a Health Educator and have been in the medical field for over 40 years. This disease is less deadly than the flu!!! There are therapeutics available. No vaccine is necessary or warranted and certainly not in the form of a mandate! This is a money making manipulation to control the people!!

Heavenly Father, I call on you to deliver us from the hands of statist hypocrites, who would require us to be injected with a vaccine that might not only be worse than catching COVID, and prevent herd immunity from occurring naturally but will likely be made with cells from aborted children. Some of these would not inject themselves or their children with such a concoction but would force it on us anyway. Praying is necessary, of course, and God will help. BUT WE MUST ALSO ACT! That means ALL OF US writing to our Congressmen, Governors, and the President! It is very easy to email messages on Congressmens’ websites, the White House contact website is VERY easy. We must not be silent! The pharmaceutical industrial complex and its huge payoffs are behind this, and we MUST speak out! IFA provides for us intelligent reports with info we can use in our messages, they need not be long, but we MUST TELL THEM THEY MUST REPRESENT US IN THIS! Our children’s health depends on defeating this! Pray, yes, every day pray, pray before we write our messages, pray for those in authority, but ACT ALSO! God bless us as we speak out as is guaranteed us by our Constitution.
I have prayed God’s wisdom in this subject. Lord, don’t let this mandate be established in the any state of the USA..I pray for Your mercy and grace and for your will to be known and followed. Only You, God, are the healer and worthy of praise for the control of this disease. Let us not give glory to anything or anyone else for the healing of our world. You alone are worthy of praise. Tracking will allow the government one step closer to the mark of the beast. We need to be aware of the vaccines that are developed and promoted by Bill Gates and his organization which will contain nano particles to not only trace us But control us. Laws need to be passed that will allow those who do not want to be vaccinated to opt out. May our mighty God protect us from this coming evil.
I think tracking people like this is scary. It can open up the future to way too much government control.
