On this day two years ago, Russia invaded Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, IFA has provided intercessors with regular updates, as well as opportunities to pray and to act.

Intercessors for Ukraine (IFU), an organization that IFA helped start, has worked tirelessly over the past two years to minister to every Ukrainian man, woman, and child affected by the war.

IFU, led by Vitaliy Orlov, responded quickly to provide opportunities to pray. On February 27, only three days after the invasion began, Vitaly led a prayer for victory and peace in Ukraine on the steps of California’s capitol. As the year continued, IFU was able to find creative and effective ways to minister to the people of Ukraine. The organization installed billboards across the city of Sumy featuring powerful scriptures. They helped evacuate people from cities near the fighting. They helped distribute around 100 tons of humanitarian aid, including hundreds of thousands of meals. All of this was done with a focus on Christ. IFU distributed over 1 million prayer books and over 20,000 Bibles.

In 2023, IFU did much of the same. Over 30,000 Bibles, 300,000 prayer books, and 70,000 meals were distributed. Orlov’s organization lead over 1,000 Ukrainians to church and served the families of the fallen. IFU also initiated a National Day of Fasting and Prayer for Victory and Peace in Ukraine on the first anniversary of the war.

Now, in 2024, IFU hopes to do the same, declaring a year of unity in fasting and prayer for victory and peace in Ukraine. IFU is initiating a day of prayer and fasting today for the second anniversary of the war, as well as on August 24, which will be the 33rd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. This is in addition to the constant intercession that is taking place throughout the year, as a network of evangelical churches spearheaded by IFU is covering different regions of Ukraine in constant prayer every week.

As he guides IFU and ministers to his people, Orlov has shared the following prayer requests with us:

• Strength, wisdom, and grace to move on in the ministry of the Lord and people;
• Repentance, having a relationship with Christ, and rooting in the church of all new converts who have come to church for the first time;
• 100% fulfillment of God’s will in 2024;
• The Lord’s protection over his family as he leads this important prayer ministry.

He has also shared the following plans for 2024 with us:

• Evangelization and humanitarian ministry of Sumy Christian Church;
• Coordination of the “Intercessors of Ukraine” prayer movement, in particular the All-Ukrainian YEAR OF FASTING AND PRAYER for victory and peace in Ukraine;
• Administrating and printing 1,000,000 evangelistic prayer books to reach 1 million more Ukrainians;
• Preparation of the national evangelism project “Hope for Ukraine”: using a mobile stage in various cities and villages of Ukraine to preach the Gospel to 100,000 Ukrainians every year;
• Support for the work of the evangelization platform www.nadiya.in.ua, so that 20,000 Ukrainians can take high-quality Christian courses and draw closer to God during the year.

We encourage you to pray for IFU and the people of Ukraine as the war with Russia enters its third year. Danger and sorrow remain, but the Lord will always be with those who serve Him and call upon his name.
