Two top officials from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Monday said an attempt by House Democrats to pressure television carriers to de-platform Fox News and two other cable news channels was “troubling” because it seeks to “stifle political speech and independent news judgment.”
FCC Commissioners Brendan Carr and Nathan Simington in separate statements responded to letters penned by two Democrat members on the House Energy and Commerce Committee that were sent to 12 cable, satellite, and streaming companies. . . .
In their letters, the Democrat House members urged the companies to take steps they asserted would combat the spread of “misinformation.”
Reps. Jerry McNerney (D-Calif.) and Anna G. Eshoo (D-Calif.) alleged that right-leaning Fox, Newsmax, and One America News had spread “misinformation” after the November 2020 elections and about COVID-19. Their letters also demanded answers to why the carriers were carrying these television outlets. . . .
Carr said that the two House Democrats had “selectively targeted” several news media outlets for their coverage of political events, saying that such actions send a clear and troubling message of “these regulated entities will pay a price if the targeted newsrooms do not conform to Democrats’ preferred political narratives.” . . .
The commissioner continued by reminding Americans that discourse on matters of public interest should be “robust, uninhibited, and wide open.” . . .
Simington echoed Carr’s concerns, characterizing the two House Democrats’ conduct as “worrying.” He said that the lawmakers were applying “overbroad and vague label of ‘misinformation’ to any media reportage that calls into question their preferred political narratives, and have sought to intimidate into silence those who would distribute on their platforms disfavored points of view.”
“This is particularly concerning because the House Energy and Commerce Committee supervises the Communications Act, and their statement could be read to imply that action will be taken under the Communications Act should the recipients not agree in advance to chill their speech,” he said (pdf). . . .
Acting FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel and her staff did not immediately respond to a request from The Epoch Times for comment on the letters.
House Energy and Commerce chairman Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) is scheduled to lead an online subcommittee hearing on Wednesday.
In separate statements to The Epoch Times, spokespeople from Fox News and Newsmax decried the lawmakers’ conduct, saying that their actions set “a terrible precedent.”
Last month, left-leaning CNN made a similar move in attempting to pressure cable carriers into removing competitors like Newsmax. Newsmax responded saying that CNN was trying to eliminate Newsmax as a competitor, while noting that the liberal cable channel has a history of misreporting and peddling “conspiracy theories” about Christopher Steele’s dossier and Russian collusion. . . .

God please continue to bless the nation that we live in. God, it is getting harder for us to feel safe here in America. We ask you humbly to lift us up. Assist us in our need to overcome all the evil that is inflicting this nation. You are sufficient enough to guide us through all the troubles that appear before us. Dear Heavenly Father, I never would have believed I would hear such blatant calls for censorship in this country and it has surprised many of how rapidly they are moving in this direction. Lord it seems obvious they want to silence anyone who would expose their evil plans and ideology. Lord I pray truth is never silenced in our land. Let us all speak and defend truth no matter the cost. Lord I pray their efforts to silence truth will instead lead more people to seek and find truth. Lord I know our ways are not Your ways, and I expect we shall see something miraculous emerge despite the efforts of the enemy. In Jesus precious name I pray Oa’ Lord, Amen.
Father show us how to pray, live, and fight in these dark days. Raise up the church to be the salt and light. Let our pastors preach Your word powerfully through Your spirit, make our hearts receptive and May we all be obedient to You. We ask for deliverance from evil in high places and May we not grow weary in well doing but trust and obey. Amen
How many times was Paul beaten and thrown into prison? Why? Because he defied the government that tried to stop him from spreading the gospel. He paid his taxes but when he was told to shut up and not preach he said no. And it was his defying those orders that caused the gospel to spread throughout the world. His own people tried to shut him up. So when any one in government tries to take our free speech rights or any of our rights away what do “We The People” say….. No! Any one trying to stifle our speech should be questioned. Who are these two Democrats? What is their agenda? Why? Are they trying to destroy the constitution? Why? What do they intend to replace it with? We really need to wake up!…..Open our eyes Father, we are in a crisis!. There are those who just want to remove You from every aspect of this society. But We are the people of God. We are here to spread the gospel. Tyranny has no place in America. Thank you for all the many blessings and miracles You have bestowed on us as a nation, as people and as your church! We give you all the honor, glory, and praise in the strong strong name of Christ Jesus!
We pray that you will intervene in the matter of free speech! We have heard the voices that we disagreed with and seen the publications that we as Christians disagreed with over the past decades that were protected by the first Amendment. And, now we ask for the same protection over our ability to communicate truth in economy, politics, government, etc and religion for our own belief in Your Word.
Our. country has gotten so corrupted with evil that anyone who dares disagree with the liberal agenda is now subject to tyrannical retribution. We pray LORD that you would supernaturally turn this tide back toward fair. We pray LORD that the Body of Christ will rise up and stand up for our right to discuss our beliefs, question all aspects of government, control what our families hear, see and do without government mandates and forced medicine, doctrine, participation in school agenda, laws, taxation and other things that conflict with Your Word!
We pray for the leaders in our nation and our world that they might be loosed of the hold the evil one has on them and that they be bound by the scriptures in Your Word that would cause them to believe that we should be a nation of free speech again! You have said that what is loosed on earth is loosed in Heaven and that which is bound on earth is bound in Heaven- Loose the truth, LORD and bind the evil spirits that plague our nation! We rebuke the devil from each of us individually, our families, and our nation! We rebuke him from our lands, our people, our government, and our churches!
We want to be bound to You Father, not of the world but in the world, like lights on a hillside for all the world to see! Help us to be still and know that You are God. Help us to have a great desire to learn Your Word and use it as sword and shield against the evil one who comes to kill, steal and destroy!

Thank God for courageous people who will stand up for truth and justice! May God bless their efforts and continue to give them courage to do the right thing.
Just love our Christian community. Well worded including scripture And knowledge of the lords purpose for this beloved world. He won’t let us drown, he just wants us to get moving and talking and living in the word. Our children have been poisoned by the world. We must make them aware of his truth. His promises and their own walk with the almighty personal loving lord Jesus the Christ. Not easy. I’m dealing with a a young man right now who is so confused about abortion the president and all the other thugs who creep around the media, pure evil. I confront him once a week starting with being aware of the issues of taking the life of babies. He has a favorite well known comedian who actually had a whole routine about killing babies. I watched it what a ugly thing to see and hear but I had to know what I’m up against. These people are hero’s to our young people. There have been inroads because I have nothing to lose. This young man is my grandson. I get to go out there with facts that he can check on the internet. I don’t want to do it but he listens. And has actually changed his mind on the abortion issue. One on one is how it happens. A loving family member Can make a difference. It’s very difficult but extremely important. Jesus changes things if we are not afraid to step in and bring one at a time through grace to knowledge of what is going on. Get some truth going. God is good
