Trump Signs EO to Prosecute Flag Burners
On Monday, President Trump announced his intention to prosecute anyone who burns a United States flag, prompting mixed reactions from those on the right.
Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.
From The Christian Post:
Trump issued an executive order on Monday vowing that his administration will “prosecute those who incite violence or otherwise violate our laws while desecrating this symbol of our country, to the fullest extent permissible under any available authority.”
“The American Flag is a special symbol in our national life that should unite and represent all Americans of every background and walk of life. Desecrating it is uniquely offensive and provocative,” stated the order.
“It is a statement of contempt, hostility, and violence against our Nation — the clearest possible expression of opposition to the political union that preserves our rights, liberty, and security. Burning this representation of America may incite violence and riot.”
The President is calling Attorney General Pam Bondi to prosecute anyone who burns an American flag “to the maximum extent permitted by the Constitution,” according to the executive order.
While many view burning the flag as reprehensible behavior, it has historically been protected under the First Amendment. The Post notes that, in 1989, the Supreme Court ruled in Texas v. Johnson that burning the American flag is “a constitutionally acceptable form of public protest.”
In light of this legal precedent, conservatives are unsure of what to think about this executive order. Some have taken to calling it unconstitutional, while others have come out in full support of the order. Others have suggested this is another one of the President’s complex strategies, designed to forces the left to argue in the public forum for the right to burn the American flag.
No matter what your opinion is, it’s important to remember that flag burning is not explicitly protected under the U.S. Constitution. Rather, is protected by a legal precedent established by a decades-old court case. If that sounds familiar, it is because that is exactly the same protection that was afforded to abortion prior to the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Flag burning may be seen as protected by the Constitution now, but that could all change if a specific case reaches the Supreme Court. Perhaps bringing the act of flag burning before the Supreme Court is the President’s master plan.
Regardless of what the President’s intentions are, let’s pray. Let’s pray for an end to violence, rioting, and flag burning in America, and let’s pray for more people to respect our nation and its flag!

Lord God,
We praise President Trump for signing the Executive Order to prosecute Flag burners. We pray for an end to violence, riot, and chaos in our nation. President Trump’s intention is not only to affirm patriotism, strength, and national pride, but also to worship God. We see the American flag as more than just cloth, it’s a sacred symbol of unity, sacrifice, and even God’s providence over the nation, burning the national flag is not just disrespecting the country, but also showing dishonor to the blessings and freedoms that God has granted. Treating the Flag with respect is honoring God who gave the nation life, freedom, and purpose. On the contrary, burning the flag is not just an act of protest against the country but also a rejection of gratitude toward God who oversees nations. Lord, We honor our great American Flag as a symbol of unity, sacrifice, and the protection You have given us. Guard our hearts against dishonor, and teach us to walk in respect and gratitude. Bless this land and people, Keep us aligned with Your truth and righteousness. Amen
Well spoken, Xiaoying!
Father, may the flag burning stop. I pray you would change the hearts of those who burn our flag. Though we are truly citizens of a spiritual world and not of this world, we are in the meantime, here to bless the place you have place us, even to giving allegiance during this life to do good for our country, acting in faithful ways and praying for this nation. I pray those who come into our country would come to learn and be part of us, not to destroy. I praise your name and thank you for hearing our prayers.
DEAR LORD GOD
THANK YOU! IT’S ABOU TIME! THIS IS WHAT ANY COUNTRY WOULD DO TO THEIR FLAG BURNRERS
Islamic states do much worse!
The rebellion and anarchy that is at the heart of flag-burning is the real problem. Such utter disrespect, and in reality spitting in the eye of the Lord who established government. Governments are always a work in progress, at different levels of good/evil, and some are actually reprehensible like the evil regime in Iran. However, nowhere in the Word of God are we called to burn flags. May this issue be addressed in an effective and Godly manner.
Lord, You have heard the cries of the intercessors to deliver our nation from evil. You have given us President Trump to push back the evil the Democrats have perpetrated against our nation, our schools, our churches, our children, the sanctity of marriage, the Bible, but most offensively, they made laws and incite hatred against You. Deliver us from evil and continue to use our President.
