President Donald Trump announced plans to deploy the National Guard and other federal resources to Memphis, Tennessee, in an effort to combat the city’s rising crime crisis. Memphis currently faces the highest crime rate per 100,000 people in the nation, according to FBI data from 2024, making it one of the most dangerous cities in America.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, Trump said, “We’re going to Memphis. Memphis is deeply troubled… We’ll bring in the military too, if we need it.” He emphasized that both Memphis Mayor Paul Young, a Democrat, and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, a Republican, expressed openness to federal support.

Representative David Kustoff (R-TN), who represents part of Memphis, welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of permanent federal law enforcement cooperation to restore order and provide lasting safety for residents. Kustoff pledged to continue working with the White House to secure these resources.

Mayor Young acknowledged discussions with the President and Governor earlier in the week, stating he is “committed to working to ensure any efforts strengthen our community and build on our progress.” However, local opposition has emerged. Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris (D) criticized the move, warning it could stoke confusion and infringe on freedoms such as the right to protest. Harris vowed to resist what he described as an “incursion into Tennessee.”

The debate reflects a deeper divide over the role of federal intervention in cities struggling with violent crime. Supporters argue the presence of National Guard troops will bring much-needed stability, protection for families, and reassurance for law-abiding citizens. Critics, however, fear heavy-handed tactics and unintended consequences.

For Christians, the situation highlights the biblical mandate for government to act as a “servant of God to do you good” and to bear the sword against wrongdoing (Romans 13:4). While maintaining liberty is essential, so too is protecting innocent lives from violence and disorder. In a time when communities are suffering under rampant crime, prayer is needed both for leaders making weighty decisions and for the people of Memphis, that safety, peace, and justice would prevail.

As America faces ongoing struggles with violence, corruption, and division, the faithful are called to lift up their nation in prayer, seeking God’s mercy and wisdom for leaders at every level. The deployment to Memphis is not merely a political decision but a spiritual crossroads, and Christians should pray for righteous leadership, wise governance, and protection for all.

“Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished. For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you. The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong. So you must submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Amen to this amazing article! When leaders fail to protect its citizens, it is war. If the governors and mayors are welcoming this help and assistance, then praise God! But for those mayors and governors who are not protecting its citizens, then the people need to get a clue and vote in someone who will govern rightly and do what it takes for the protection of its citizens.

Father God, we pray Congress will vote righteously and support our president when help is needed in cities across our nation whose mayors and/or governors are not protecting them. Please Rid our nation of godless leadership, those with communistic and evil ideologies. We are one nation under the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY and it is in you LORD GOD that we trust.

Am hoping and praying, Lord, that these bold moves to deal with the rampant crime in our nation are effective, not just in D.C. but many cities throughout the nation. Please deal with those who in their immaturity are throwing fits about it. Please bless those who are cooperating in a sincere desire to see a reduction in crime and violence.

The microscopic view is that it is unconstitutional since the constitution does not provide for a peacetime standing army or federal police. However, the nature of warfare has changed. After a number of communist insurrections in Europe in the 1840s the method shifted to corrupting the culture and stirring up divisions. Yuri Besmenov described this in the 1960s and his warnings were not heeded. We are in the final stages of the process he described and we can look at urban crime as fomented by a foreign agent, international communism, in which case the federal support may be constitutional in concept, though it has to be authorized by congress as a declaration of war, which we have not done since 1942 even for sending troops overseas and stationing troops around the world as a deterrent. https://search.brave.com/search?q=did+congress+authorize+the+US+to+sation+troops+around+the+world&source=desktop&conversation=3f0da99d8a172c04590ec1&summary=1

While I personally do not want to live in a nation patrolled by military police, I am grateful someone is recognizing the devestating effect four years of admimistrators who subverted and ignored the rule of law within our nation has had upon our cities.
Where there is no law and justice, there is disorder and chaos, where “every man does what is right in his own eyes.”
We will never have heaven on earth, at least not until the millenium when Jesus will rule and reign; but this does not mean we must allow our nation to devolve into tribal warfare and anarchy.
I may not agree with everything our President says or does, but I praise God he is taking a bold stance against lawlessness within our nation.

Controlling the madness can only happen with serious boundaries. What we were all suppose to learn as children has failed to happen, so now we have adults who are not respecting authority and order. Surprise Surprise? Don’t think so. If we don’t enforce a harsh reaction to these wrong choices we will tolerate and perpetuate this madness.

Heavenly Father, we confess as a country we have failed to put Your precepts into place in our homes. Broken homes, social media and evidence of the evil that truly does exist, is testing Your truth.
Forgive our choices and our lack of courage and commitment in the past to take authority. Praise You for a government that sees this need to intervene with Your power and force to protect the safety of law abiding citizens and end what has gotten severely out of hand.
We ask for continued wisdom, strong leaders, courage and Your light, deliverance and unity on the city of Memphis and around Your world.
May You wipe out the opposing forces that stand in Your way of Glory, order and peace on earth as it is in Heaven!

In Jesus’ name, Amen

Lord, please protect all law enforcement and the innocent people in Memphis. Let there be peace in that city and in our country. Work in the hearts of those local officials who oppose this to want the same. In Jesus name I pray
