On Wednesday, a sobering report revealed that fraud in Minnesota was being used to fund overseas terrorism, and that the state’s Somali migrant community bears much of the blame. In response to this, President Trump has decided to end temporary amnesty for Somali migrants in the state.

President Donald Trump announced that he is terminating the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) amnesty for Somali migrants in Minnesota, stating that “BILLIONS of Dollars are missing.”

“Minnesota, under Governor Waltz, is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota. Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing.”

Trump’s post comes after a report from the City Journal found that “federal counterterrorism sources confirm that millions of dollars in stolen funds have been sent back to Somalia, where they ultimately landed in the hands of the terror group Al-Shabaab”

IFA covered this report on Saturday. In the report, City Journal reveals that bad actors created a network of fraud in Minnesota, taking advantage of state programs. Somali-Americans were disproportionately involved, sending millions through “hawalas” back to Somalia. Some of this money has even ended up in the hands of Al-Shabaab, a foreign terrorist group.

According to Breitbart and the National Immigration Forum’s website, the TPS Program is designed to protect “eligible foreign-born individuals who are unable to return home safely” due to issues in their home country. President Trump’s decision will open up Minnesota’s Somali community to deportations, although Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on Sunday that the move wouldn’t be immediate.

It is scary to think fraudsters are sending taxpayer funds to terrorists, but it is encouraging to know that our leaders are working to address the crisis. Let’s pray for wisdom for our officials as they determine the best way to stop this fraud once and for all!
