As the government shutdown drags on, President Trump shared a Truth Social post calling on congressional Republicans to end the filibuster, a tactic he calls the “nuclear option.

“The one question that kept coming up, however, was how did the DemocratsSHUT DOWN the United States of America, and why did the powerful Republicans allow them to do it?” Trump wrote. “The fact is, in flying back, I thought a great deal about that question, WHY?”

Trump added that Republicans, who now hold control of Congress and the White House, should play their “Trump card” and go for the “nuclear option.”
“Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW!” he wrote.
The President noted that some Democrats had tried to remove the Senate procedure under President Biden, but they ultimately failed when Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema joined with Republicans to stop the effort. President Trump also stated that Democrats would try to abolish the filibuster again upon regaining power.
According to the Brennan Center for Justice, a filibuster is “an attempt to delay or block a vote on a piece of legislation or a confirmation.” With the procedure in place, Senators are able to delay votes on a bill, oftentimes through lengthy, blustering speeches. It takes 60 votes to move past these delays and distractions.
In effect, this means that the Senate, which ordinarily only requires a simple majority to pass bills just like the House, essentially needs a 60-vote supermajority to pass legislation.
The Brennan Center for Justice notes that the filibuster has proven to be inconvenient, “often slowing business in the chamber to a halt.” This rule is part of why Republicans struggled to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill earlier this year. It is also why Republicans, despite holding the majority of the Senate, routinely struggle to pass budgets, often leading to the threat of a shutdown like the one we are in today.
If our senators abolished the filibuster, it would enable legislators to enact President Trump’s agenda at lightning-fast speed, barreling through any and all Democrat opposition. It could, however, enable Democrats to do the same should they regain control of Congress, which is likely why the President referred to it as the nuclear option.
As Republicans consider taking this drastic step to end the shutdown, let’s pray!

Name a legitimate and critical governing “for the good of the people” situation that would merit the use of the option called a filibuster. Is there one?
A menial, self-serving heart on an insatiable quest to have its own way?
Would this be one?
As the person who, after the Democrats took the Senate on top of the House and Presidency in 2020-21, called Sen. McConnell and got him to add protection of the filibuster in the Senate resolution when it was tied 50-50, I can tell you eliminating the filibuster would in some near future year, permanently destroy all quality of life in the U.S. If not for Sen. McConnell doing what I suggested to him in that call, the Democrats in 2021 would have had NO obstruction to passing the Lewis Voting Act permanently enshrining Democrat control of all three branches federally, the Equality Act forcing all school students to share showers and restrooms with the opposite sex permanently and pretty much criminalizing religion, the Green New Deal, and many other of the worst possible pieces of legislation. Sure, ending the filibuster now sounds good to end the government shutdown. But it’s Democrats, not Republicans, that change the entire system out of immediate gratification and expediency. It is a 100% certainty the politics will cycle back to Democrat majority control of Congress and the Presidency some time in the next several years, it always cycles back and forth. And the filibuster has proven to be the ONLY thing protecting us from having our quality of life permanently and totally destroyed.
Can you get this message to President Trump? he wants to take out the filibuster. Let’s pray to that end.
Lord, I pray that Your will be done in this situation. We truly do not know the consequences of this action….but You do! I don’t know how to pray for this…..so….Your will be done. I pray for Your truth, Your justice and Your righteousness will reign in this decision, throughout our government and our land.

I think the Republicans should end the filibuster process and reopen our government. There is no legitimate reason not to take control of this situation. Republicans, do this for the great citizens of our great nation, the USA. People are suffering, and more will suffer if you don’t act. The voters of this nation were thrilled when the Republicans won the majority of the Senate and House. We all thought you would “Make America Great Again.” But look at what’s happening now. Our citizens need you now. Please don’t let politics destroy the citizens of this great nation. ACT NOW!!
Why can’t they do a narrow “carve out” ban on filibusters that only applies to Continuing Resolutions, or define it so that it cannot be used to shut the government down?

Is God really in control? The concept of the control of God over everything is called the “sovereignty” of God. Nothing gives us strength and confidence like an understanding of the sovereignty of God in our lives. God’s sovereignty is defined as His complete and total independent control over every creature, event, and circumstance at every moment in history. Subject to none, influenced by none, absolutely independent, God does what He pleases, only as He pleases, always as He pleases. God is in complete control of every molecule in the universe at every moment, and everything that happens is either caused or allowed by Him for His own perfect purposes.

What about free will? He is sovereign on one hand but not in control. If He was in control of all circumstances, we would not have free choice!! Neither would there be any need to intercede. We would be robots with no choice. I believe when there are 2 sides to consider like this issue and for instance, Armenism and Calvinism, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. We need to rightly divide the word of Truth. He does set boundaries on Satan like with Job and each of us kids. He does intervene in mens affairs at times to fulfill His will on earth but usually as a result of intercession. Also He has given man to once again through the victory of the cross and resurrection exercise dominion over the earth and His arch enemy, but it seems to me only through His people can that authority and stewardship be exercised or realized.
The Democrats do not have American citizens’ best in mind, so we have to do what we have to do.
I believe every one of them should put their big boy/girl pants on and do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. To hear them speaking, I feel I’m at a playground, listening to a bunch of 5-year-olds bickering. They are supposed to be adults. They need to act like it. You really do not want to hear what I have to say about leaders who vote their own increases, play parlor games, and combine bills that have absolutely nothing to do with one another to force voters to accept what isn’t good to pass what is, and there is way too much waste. Enough!
I’m praying for all those who’ve lost jobs, are working without pay, and those who’ve been replaced by automation. those who are struggling on a very limited income, those who are caring for the sick, elderly, and those who are trapped in their bodies and unable to express their thoughts or needs. I pray that our leaders will step up and do what is right. I pray that the evil brainwashing in our schools will cease, that the Ten Commandments be restored in our schools and public places, I pray justice be done in our courts, businesses, and schools, I pray for parents to be responsible, for children to be respectful instead of being brought up to think they should feel as though they should always be first, have the what they want when they want it, stomp on the weak and poor, I pray for an end to bullying and the taunting, name calling, and lies being spread on social media. I pray for the safety of children, teachers, and staff in our schools and Universities, I pray for the end of wars. Of course, that won’t happen until Jesus Christ returns, but we have too many youth who are growing up with no hope, no respect for the life or property of others, no work ethic, and parents who are not willing to put 18-20 years or more into loving, caring for and teaching their children what is right. There are many children, some very young, who do care about those who are suffering or lacking. We just don’t hear enough about them or the parents/mentors who are raising them.
Abolish the filibuster!
Father, we ask for all the hidden things the enemy is trying to do in this shutdown to be known. Behind all that has been spoken about loss of food programs and wages lies hidden funding for things that are in opposition to Your Will. We demand lies to be exposed and Your Truth to be known.
Father, You see everything; You hear every word spoken and thought; You know the intent of the heart. Give our leaders ears to hear what the Spirit is saying, discernment and wisdom to align with Your Will.
Father, your Word says You raise one up and You set another down. Give us Godly leaders in Tuesday’s elections and the elections to come. Decisions have eternal consequences so give us leaders who seek Your face before they move forward.

The Democrats obviously were not able to totally abolish the filibuster or we wouldn’t be discussing abolishing it now. They abolished it for appointments of judges etc. I could support a narrow exception for CREs being made in the filibuster, but not abolishing it all together. Abolish it and by 2030 we’ll have the Equality Act, the Green New Deal, the Lewis Voting Act and on and on.

I believe to abolish it outright would appear to support the claim that President Trump wishes to RULE and REIGN in America. While the filibuster rule is not in our Constitution, it can give voice to a minority position however logical or illogical it might be. I think it should be amended to allow Senators to stand in the docket physically, but not to just pontificate about a subject, get a quick vote and leave. If they feel that strongly, they would have to stand there and defend it! If they step down, or the vote stops them, the objection is defeated! Get a constitutionalist to write it up properly, but that’s the basis of my opinion.
Pray that God will move more Democrats to act independently of their leaders and follow their consciences to vote to end the shutdown.

NO!! This would be playing into the democrats’ hands! If they ever regained power, they could use it to pack the Supreme Court! And they have said they would do it. They desperately want to end the filibuster. Trump should know this.

If we abolish the filibuster, then the people will have the action that they voted for! If citizens vote for righteuos people, the righteous ones will get the job done. If the citizens vote in people with evil intent, against the Bible, then they get what they voted for…unrighteous decisions. We have to trust the Lord, pray and do our job to get righteous, God-fearing people who will do the right thing for our country. Let’s abolish it.

LORD, we need your guidance on this filibuster issue. We normally don’t have a problem with clarity most of the time on political common sense, but this one has us perplexed and needing YOUR DIVINE guidance, not only for us, but I would suspect others who may feel the same.
On one hand we are so tired of liberal politicians who don’t have the Nation’s best interest in mind, and clearly understand the President’s thoughts and frustration he must be having. On the other hand this one has us concerned for my kids and grand kids future when liberals regain power, which they ultimately will, and the threshold of the filibuster would stop them if they would respect the filibuster rules, as two Senators did not long ago. We personally PRAY for my children and grand children’s sake that isn’t until they can get themselves back under some resemblance of YOUR ALMIGHTY leadership again.
We would prefer that the President sign an Executive order ending this shutdown with the clean resolution that is fully supported by his party, and to end the nonsense of those stopping the legislative process. The majority of our country look at the disfunction of our government and wonder how it can’t move forward. We see a majority of leadership on our side and want to blame our side, when the problem is the 60% that is required and the filibuster. It looks bad and is bad but on the other hand could serve the other side. I believe it is time to let the Republicans fix what’s wrong and then set it back. I depend on You for guiding this in Your wisdom and oversight. Time is limited and getting shorter. Be with those most affected by the shutdown.
The Democrats will oppose anything and everything that President Trump wants. Our founders put many tools in place to ensure that laws would be passed thoughtfully. The filibuster is one of those, however, I have come to the conclusion that the filibuster must be eliminated. Certainly the Democrats will do so if they ever regain control of the Senate. We have a narrow window of time and there is still much to do.
