During USAF basic training in 1960, my flight commander told me to step outside of the barracks. A Major was waiting to talk to me. It turned out it was my Geometry teacher and Athletic Director from the High School I just left 3 months earlier. I was totally stun. Fr. DeAngelo was a sight for sore eyes. It was a relief to be with someone I knew from home. We prayed for my safety and success while in the Air Force. Sixty One years later, one of our young Pastor’s in our church is a Chaplin in the AF Reserves. He lives around the corner from me and we converse frequently. It is like having a little bit of the AF home these many years later. I am a total supporter of the chaplains and the critical support they provide to active and reserve service members. Many are in desperate need of spiritual support which can come from dedicated chaplains.
