In a spirited briefing on Friday, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany turned the tables on the press corps.  Usually an exercise in attempts at “gotcha” games against the administration, Press Secretary McEnany took the press to school instead–journalism school.  With no articles coming forth from the mainline press about what the White House is dubbing “Obamagate”, or any of the other new revelations on illicit spying by Obama administration officials, McEnany challenged their lack of journalistic curiosity.

McEnany led with, “I laid out a series of questions that any good journalist would want to answer about why people were unmasked, and all sorts of questions. And I just wanted to follow up with you guys on that.  Did anyone take it upon themselves to pose any questions about Michael Flynn and unmasking the President Obama spokesperson?”  No hands went up. “Oh, not a single journalist has posed that question.  Okay.”

When it was clear that no journalist at the briefing would be asking questions were asked on these topics, McEnany gave them a list of 5 questions for them to pursue, with the challenge that they should come back to the briefing on Tuesday with some answers.

Here is McEnany’s list of questions in her words:

1. Why did the Obama administration use opposition research, funded by a political organization and filled with foreign dirt, to surveil members of the Trump campaign?

2. Why was Lieutenant General Michael Flynn unmasked — not by the intel community entirely, but by Obama’s chief of staff; by the former Vice President, Joe Biden; by Susan Rice; by the Treasury Secretary?  I mean, this is extraordinary.  And, you know, if they were political appointees in the Trump administration, I can guarantee you I’d have questions in my inbox right now, but apparently Obama’s spokesperson does not.

3. Why was Flynn’s identity leaked in a criminal act?  It is a criminal act to leak the identity of Michael Flynn to the press, but it happened.  Where are the questions to Obama’s spokesperson?  Because my team would be running around this building should this have happened under the Trump administration.

4. Why did the DOJ, Sally Yates, learn about the unmasking from President Obama?  So much for going by the book, as Susan Rice said three times.  “Thou doth protest too much,” Susan Rice.

5.  Why did James Clapper, John Brennan, Samantha Power, and Susan Rice privately admit under oath they had no evidence of collusion while saying the opposite publicly?

“It’s a long weekend.  You guys have three days to follow up on those questions.  And I certainly hope the next time I ask, some hands go up, because Obama’s spokesperson should be asked those questions because President Trump’s spokespeople certainly would be,” McEnany stated before leaving the briefing.

What happened as the reporters returned to the White House Press room on Tuesday?  Was there any journalistic curiosity stirred up by McEnany’s questions? Did reporters begin digging into the glaring issues that would make a Pulitzer-prize level investigative series?  Sadly, no.  Keep praying for the press. Pray that one will be brave and start digging.  And another.  Pray for the reporters that are telling the truth would have their voices magnified, and that those who seek to deceive and hide would be stifled. And pray for White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany–she’s not afraid to take on the mainstream media.
