Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s plan to calm violence in Portland is falling apart after two neighboring sheriffs said they won’t supply personnel to help out, saying the answer isn’t more police but rather a get-tough policy of charging and prosecuting rioters.
Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett lamented the “lack of political support for public safety” in declining to send his deputies.
Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts said the district attorney covering Portland needs to follow through on prosecuting agitators.
“The same offenders are arrested night after night, only to be released by the court and not charged with a crime by the DA’s office,” he said. “The next night they are back at it again, endangering the lives of law enforcement and the community all over again.”
Sheriff Roberts said the governor didn’t talk to him before she announced her plan to tap his department for personnel. . . .
On Saturday, a man associated with a pro-Trump organization was gunned down in the city. Police are reportedly investigating an antifa activist.
Ms. Brown, in multiple statements Sunday, blamed the pro-Trump supporters for creating a tense situation, and praised Black Lives Matter activists for their ongoing racial justice protests.
But she also released a plan calling for a surge in police. She said both Washington and Clackamas deputies would provide manpower to help the Portland Police Bureau, which has stretched to its limits dealing with regular riots from left-wing demonstrators.
Ms. Brown also said Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, whose jurisdiction covers Portland, agreed to pursue cases against serious criminals.
Mr. Schmidt in August announced a policy of refusing to press charges against people arrested for demonstrating or rioting unless police specifically found they engaged in violence. Those who refused to follow police dispersal orders, for example, had their cases dropped.
Sheriff Roberts said changing that approach is the key to regaining control of the mayhem.

Dear Heavenly Father, my prayer is that all rioters and those against Christians would have a Damascus Road experience with our Dear Lord Jesus Christ and that His will to be done in their lives and those in this election who are promoting anti Biblical values. In Jesus Name, Amen and Amen!!
Lord – we humbly ask that voting and concerned citizens would be United in firmly endorsing and upholding law enforcement leaders and rank & file employees. We also pray they would put relentless & intense pressure on the governor, AG’s, DA’s, and mayors. Lord, lead and equip them in organizing any leader(s) who refuses to protect and support both the laws and the citizens. Unite them and guide them to remove godless and inept leaders who refuse to change their ways. In his name we pray amen.
It should have read “equip them in organizing AGAINST any leader(s)”.. (corrected by author of the comment).
We stand on behalf of righteousness, justice, equity, peace in the city of Portland. We ask for a turnaround in this situation. Let the rule of law prevail. We pray for the mayor. Give her Godly wisdom and discernment to make right choices in the midst of this chaos. We bind principalities, powers, and every work of darkness in this city. We loose your divine and righteous judgment. You intervene in the affairs of man Father. We seek your mighty intervention and resolutions for this time of chaos and confusion. Amen
In the beginning, God, you created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void (chaos reigned) but the your Spirit was hovering over the waters because you are loving and caring. You said, Let there be light and there was light! You have all power. You speak and darkness flees. O God, send forth your Holy Spirit to hover over Portland, Washington, D.C. Kenosha, Minneapolis, Atlanta, and all the cities where there is chaos. You are a God of law and order and I pray for the people of this nation to STAND UP AND SAY NO to the chaos. I pray they will petition the leaders day and night until the leaders DO SOMETHING and bring peace. I pray for the people of this nation to believe that an America in which Donald Trump is President is a much safer America than one run by the very policies employed in this chaotic cities. People care, Lord; and you care for people. In Jesus name, Amen.
Father- I pray that this mayor will realize that these sheriffs are right. Being there isn’t enough. They need to be able to get them off of the streets. I pray that they will see the need to take the action required to get more involvement from neighboring law enforcement. Lord. help the citizens of those communities to turn to you. Help them to take action through the right means to bring change. grant those police who are there the support they need. Forgive us for taking the peace that we have so long known for granted. Please help law and order to return.

1st Schmidt has to define “serious criminals”!!!! Everyone involved in cleaning this mess up, MUST be completely in on the idea of clean-up & prosecution for each offence….before police can be involved!!!!! Because the leaders of Portland & Governor have let it get to this point, they let it happen & let it go on, they are not trustworthy. It could be a set up against the police. There needs to be several days of the voted leaders, city & state, sticking their necks out to change their words to the rioters “this is enough!”…”if you continue you will be prosecuted to the fullest!…& that police will not be defunded” before police get involved to see how serious they are about saving the city, changing their attitude toward the police & that they are not setting them up to be slaughtered by the mob!!!. Praying for God to lead the police, voted leaders, city & state, to get their act together & communicate on a “work together” level. That means the state & city leaders abandoning all they have said & done so far! Police don’t move to help without God’s intervention!!!
Its been shown that the intifada is supplying their paid mercenaries with bricks and frozen water bottles which are effective weapons when the intent is to do bodily harm and destroy property.This is effective for those refusing to control this disturbance for their own political aims since the claim is they aren’t armed. That implies only an AK 47 is harmful?
You can ask the Israelis how much damage can be inflicted by even a balloon filled with explosives.
How much lawlessness is to be permitted with the object of blaming your own personal shadow thinking?
We become more aware every day how important the vote is and what elected officials really stand for.
I pray Lord, that you will intervene in this on going chaos and help our leaders find the discernment and courage to stand against it. In Jesus name, aAmen.
I think this is absolute absurdity! It is truly unbelievable that these mayors and governors hate the President more than they care about trying to stop this violence and protect the law-abiding citizens. Father I pray that you take total control over this election and help our leaders find the courage and discernment to stand against it. I also pray for the citizens of Portland who have to continue to suffer from it, especially the children. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
