UPDATE: The Senate approved a funding measure to fund and reopen the federal government last night. The measure now moves to the House, where a vote is expected as early as 4 PM on Wednesday.
Over the weekend, eight more moderate Democratic Senators defected, allowing the Senate to move forward on funding the government. It would seem that, after more than 40 days, an end to the shutdown is in sight.

Signs that the shutdown, which entered its 40th day, could be ending became more and more clear as the day went on, particularly with the unveiling of a bipartisan package of spending bills that lawmakers hope to attach to a modified bill to reopen the government.
Eight Senate Democrats crossed the aisle to mark the first step in the GOP’s quest to end the shutdown. Many of the lawmakers that splintered from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., were among those engaged in bipartisan talks over the last several weeks.
Among the defectors were Sens. Angus King, I-Maine, John Fetterman, D-Pa., Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., Tim Kaine, D-Va., and the number two Democrat in the Senate, Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
While Senate Dems have earned some concessions, such as the reversals of firings of some federal workers, Republicans have not budged on the Obamacare tax credits, which quickly became the central issue of the shutdown. Democrats did, however, secure a guarantee of a vote on the tax credits after the government opens.
Senators are hard at work crafting the legislation to end the shutdown, but there are still several procedural roadblocks and votes left that more hardline Democrats could use to hold up the process. As of the time of writing, the Senate has not yet passed any legislation.
The House, meanwhile, is gearing up to receive and vote on whatever the Senate gives them. Speaker Mike Johnson urged Republicans to return to Washington on Monday, telling Fox that the House could vote to reopen the government as early as Wednesday.
This shutdown has been long and difficult, but an end is finally in sight. Let’s pray for our lawmakers as they work to end the chaos in Washington!

My heart yearns for a revival that will touch the Democratic Party that their hearts will change and receive the salvation available to all of us . I pray that we will acknowledge that Jesus and Him alone is the answer !
Father. We pray for Truth to be revealed and Justice to prevail in our nation. Only You know the hearts of the congressmen and women and their true reasons for the shut down. We pray our leaders would be doing what is best for our country and the people and not for selfish or political reasons. We pray for restoration of the finances of those who have suffered loss. Help the airlines to be restored back to full operation soon so those who are traveling can do so safely and in a timely manner. Praise God that the shutdown is soon to end. I pray for agreement between the Senators and the House to end this shutdown. I am glad the Republicans did not waffle on the Obama tax credits. May the Lord draw each Senator and Representative to seek God’s wisdom and walk with Him.
Those in the Senators and republicans in Congress that caused or supported the government shutdown SHOULD BE FIRED, ARRESTED, TRIED for the CRIMINAL ACTS they have COMMITTED.

Congressional immunity prevents Senators and Representatives from being arrested, tried and convicted for actions taken on the floor of the the Senate and House. Article 1, Section 6, Clause 1 of the US Constitution — the Speech and Debate clause — says “…They [Congress] shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.” While this clause cannot be taken “literally,” according to the Supreme Court in Hutchinson v Proxmire (1979), it must be interpreted “broadly” to maintain separation of powers. Without such immunity, Congress members and their aids would be subject to arrest, trial and conviction for almost anything anyone didn’t like. Practically speaking, lawmakers must be able discuss and debate to pass laws for the benefit of the country, save for the exceptions listed in that constitutional clause, without fear that someone will try to find a reason to arrest, try, and convict them.
You can FIRE THEM in your state or congressional district — get a coalition of voters to vote them out of office if you want to “punish” them.

I am very thankful that they’re finally getting something done by ending the shutdown. I believe it’s not right to hold a country hostage like that just to try to gain political gain or sway the vote. I believe bi partisan ship is obviously the way to go for obvious reasons but it’s got to be done with in reason and to enact the will of the people within the US Constitution.
I believe that when you have government shutdowns like that it should come out of their salary and the reason behind their motives should be looked at. Just my opinion though regardless I am thankful and just in time for Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
I will continue to pray for this great nation and those in office serving from the local level to the judges, to the state and supreme court, and the house and senate. Pray for the discernment of the voters as well that they may be able to see through the lies and discernment for themselves what is true and what is not without having to rely on entirely on the media influences or what culture says we should think or believe.

It was wise to refuse to be cowed into overspending to support illegal immigration /the Democrat machine through profligate spending on non- emergency health care for people who refused to respect our immigration laws. SNAP benefits should also not be misused by Americans or people here illegally. Much of the money is fraudulently spent, and a huge percentage to illegal immigrants. The church should be helping the poor of every kind without interference from government interests. But we should also actually verify that they are poor or at a temporary impasse. Father, help us do all things right!

Father, praying You, Holy Spirit, draw the house and the senate to reopen! Move in them to vote for the people, not their own actions or thoughts. Give them a heart of compassion, a righteousness that centers on You. Please keep them from adding into this new bill anything that promotes abortion or transgender ideologies, from giving a “free pass” to those who are not citizens, bring this nation back to serving You!
