SCOTUS Refuses to Let Trump Halt Transgender Treatment for Federal Inmates
The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to let the Trump administration enforce a Bureau of Prisons policy ending gender-transition treatment for federal inmates while a legal challenge to it moves forward.
Pray for your fellow intercessor.
From the New York Post:
Republican appointed Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas both would’ve granted Trump’s request for a stay on the lower court’s ruling against the Trump administration.
…
Earlier this year, the Bureau of Prisons issued a memo restricting facilities from funding transgender medications or treatments for inmates, as well as allowing prisoners to wear outfits that don’t correspond with their biological sex.
…
Multiple transgender inmates sued and were supported by the American Civil Liberties Union, alleging the policy flouted the Constitution’s Eighth Amendment protections against cruel and unusual punishment.
The case now returns to the lower courts. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, a Reagan appointee, ruled that the administration failed to assess how the policy would affect transgender prisoners, writing that the government cited “zero evidence from its own medical or mental health professionals” to support its conclusions. A federal appeals court also declined to pause his ruling. The administration has accused Lamberth of imposing his “own policy judgment.”
The prison policy follows President Trump’s first-day executive order directing federal agencies to define biological sex as immutable, though administration lawyers argued in court that the Bureau of Prisons made an independent judgment rather than acting on that order. According to the Osborne Association, there were nearly 2,200 transgender inmates in federal prisons as of February 2025. Those challenging the policy say about 1,000 could lose treatment.
As is standard for emergency applications, the Court gave no explanation, and its order does not signal how the justices might rule on the merits. The administration has had a high success rate with emergency requests since January 2025, which makes Wednesday’s denial a notable exception.
Let’Agreeds pray for the judges and justices as this case continues, that they would rule with wisdom and faithfulness to the law. Let’s pray for administration leaders as they work to bring federal policy in line with biological truth. Above all else, let’s pray for an end to transgenderism in America, and that our government would not use taxpayer money to fund the denial of truth.
