As the war in Ukraine continues, Russia has allegedly been breaching NATO nations’ airspace, fueling international fears and concerns.

Germany and Sweden scrambled fighter jets Sunday to monitor a Russian surveillance plane that reportedly flew over the Baltic Sea with no radio contact and without providing a flight path, the latest in a string of recent incidents that NATO and its member states believe are provocations by Moscow designed to test the trans-Atlantic alliance.

It has traditionally been rare for Russian aircraft to enter NATO nations’ airspace, but that seems to be changing.

Earlier this month, Russian aircraft reportedly breached Romanian airspace, leading Romania to scramble fighter jets in response. In the most serious incident, at least 20 Russian drones flew into Polish airspace earlier this month. NATO military assets shot down some of those Russian drones, marking the first time in the history of the alliance that it engaged enemy targets in European skies.

The incident on Sunday came after weekend cyberattacks targeting European airports. According to the Times, some security analysts speculated that the Kremlin was behind this attack, especially after Russian fighter jets allegedly breached Estonian airspace only days prior.

As Russia flexes its muscles in Europe, peace talks with Ukraine and the United States have once again stalled. Though President Trump made some progress earlier this year, Putin has proven to be remarkably uncooperative.

This war seems to show no signs of stopping, but we know that we worship the God of the impossible. Let’s pray for an end to the war in Ukraine, and for an end to all forms of Russian aggression across Europe!
