Ben Corbett attended the Turning Point USA Men’s Summit four years ago. There, he realized that many young Americans, including himself, were eagerly searching for a purpose. “For our whole lives we’ve been lied to,” said Corbett to IFA Chief Program Officer Kris Kubal. “So we look for truth.” At the summit, Corbett recognized the ultimate Truth that set him free and gave him purpose—Christ is Lord. He is now twenty-five years old and the Vice President of Outreach for College Republicans of America.

Today, we are seeing many young Americans consider their worldviews with a similar mindset. In light of the recent deaths of Christian and conservative leaders, Charlie Kirk, John MacArthur, Voddie Baucham, and several others, American youth have started to step out with bold strides, proclaiming their devotion to Christ and their fight for justice. 

World Opinions observed data from Barna Group research and stated that, “while U.S. church attendance remains flat overall, Christians who are part of Generation Z and younger millennials are attending church more frequently than before.” Noting the patterns of revival dating back to George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards, World writes, “God is at work among Generation Z and Millennials. Praise the Lord!” 

Fox News subline read, “Faith leaders report 15% increase in church attendance as ‘Charlie Kirk Effect’ draws young people to Christianity.” The article explained that many across America have decided to either pursue or return to Christianity, the scriptures, and open-faith conversations after the death of Charlie Kirk. Barna Group research writes that the rise in church attendance is primarily among young men. The New York Times stated that, “Religious history invites us to expect the unexpected, and there’s no reason to rule out a future where Kirk’s martyrdom provides the impetus for a genuine revival.”

Together, we praise the Lord for his spiritual work across the nation! It is beautiful to see such vibrant fruit. With this in mind, I urge you to pray for long-term growth. Pray that people may understand how to give glory to God in their everyday actions. Pray that people may look to God, the King of all kings, in how they vote for and look up to earthly rulers. Pray that our leaders may see that true purpose and a strong foundation are found in Christ alone.

Furthermore, pray for a deep-rooted understanding of theology and apologetics amongst our nation, that people may know not only how to defend the faith, but also to grow themselves. This is one need that is still large across America. Ligonier Ministries performed a survey this year regarding the state of theology in America. While 100% of evangelical participants believed that Christ’s death on the cross covers the penalty for sin, 35% still agreed that God accepts the worship of all religions. Other confusions lay in understanding the nature of human sin, the authority of scripture, and even the authority of God Himself. 

Mark 4:1-20 tells the parable of the sower, explaining different ways that people hear the gospel. First, there are those who hear, but never understand. Second are those who hear the gospel, but then fall away when things become hard. The third are those who allow other desires to overtake the gospel message in their lives. The fourth are those who hear the gospel, find their purpose in its absolute truth, and pursue Christ for the rest of their lives so that others may see Christ in them. 

Today, many young Americans are standing up, like Corbett, with changed or renewed lives. This is the power of the gospel truth. People see that they have been lied to and therefore, they seek the truth. Pray for the integrity and discernment of God’s people as they preach and hear the gospel. Pray that the Church would disciple and train the youth to have hearts of conviction and confidence in Christ. In this time of gospel revelation, may people truly have the ears to hear.
