Just before Thanksgiving, an Afghan national allegedly opened fire on two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., killing one and severely injuring the other. Now, Senate Republicans are investigating the Biden-era program that welcomed the alleged gunman into America.

From Fox News:

Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., are set to lead a hearing looking into the Biden administration’s parole policies later this month, Fox News Digital has learned.

The announcement of the hearing, slated for Dec. 16, comes on the heels of the shooting of two National Guard members — U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, who was wounded, and U.S. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, 20, who was killed — allegedly by Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan man that entered the country under Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome in 2021.

Operation Allies Welcome was launched in the midst of Biden’s botched withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, which led to the eventual Taliban takeover of the country after U.S. forces exited.

Both Senators previously sounded the alarm over Biden’s parole programs and lax vetting. And, more recently, both lamented that their greatest fears had been realized. As Senator Hawley put it, “And now their recklessness has opened the door to terrorism within our borders, including the deadly attack on our national Guardsman two weeks ago.”

This hearing is the latest effort in the wake of the shooting, but it is far from the only strategy Republicans are using to seek accountability. Fox notes that several Republican Senators, including Senator Cornyn, signed on to a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded revised vetting standards for Afghan nationals.

This is not the first time a migrant let into the country under the Biden administration has harmed Americans, and it likely won’t be the last. Let’s pray for the Trump administration as it works to sort out this mess and keep us safe!
