Protest Outside of NYC Synagogue Signals ‘Mamdani Era’ Has Begun
On Wednesday, hundreds of anti-Israel activists reportedly besieged a synagogue in Manhattan, chanting threatening phrases. Critics are warning this is only the beginning of a more anti-Israel, antisemitic New York City under incoming Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

From Breitbart:
Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists besieged Manhattan’s prestigious Park East Synagogue on Wednesday night, chanting, “Globalize the intifada,” “Death to the IDF,” and “take another settler out,” in what critics warned is “just the beginning” of a radicalized climate under socialist Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
The nighttime demonstration targeted an event about Jewish immigration to Israel hosted inside the synagogue, which has stood on East 67th Street since 1890 and also houses a prominent Jewish day school. Organizers from Pal-Awda New York and New Jersey, Within Our Lifetime, Jewish Voice for Peace New York, and allied anti-Israel groups promoted the rally as “No settlers on stolen land” and a “protest to stop the settler recruiting fair,” branding the program as a “settler recruiting” event.
Radical pro-Palestinian activists pounded drums and unleashed a barrage of incendiary chants, including “Resistance is glorious,” “Intifada revolution,” “No peace on stolen land,” “We don’t want no two states, we want forty-eight,” and “From New York to Gaza, globalize the intifada,” while signs declared, “Zionism is a death cult” and “No settlers on stolen land.”
Cantor Benny Rogosnitzky, who serves as a cantor of the targeted synagogue and the director of the synagogue’s day school, said that protestors chanted horrifying phrases such as “Kill the Jews” and “No Jews in America.” He said that members of the community were “very, very concerned.”

Rabbi, clergy, commentators, and lawmakers were quick to call out protest. Many compared the sight to 1930s Germany, while others were quick to link the anti-Jewish and anti-Israeli sentiment to the recent victory of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani. Melanie Phillips, a British commentator, said on X that “the Mamdani era has already begun,” while New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino wrote that “the Mamdani Effect is just getting started, and Jews are in for a bad time.”
According to a spokesperson, Mayor-elect Mamdani “has discouraged the language used” at the protest. However, Jewish leaders were reportedly quick to call this out, highlighting Mamdani’s refusal to condemn the phrase globalize the intifada” on the campaign trail. IFA has previously highlighted the Mayor-elect’s antisemitic and anti-Israel beliefs, and many Jewish families are already fleeing the city in fear of how his beliefs will embolden Jew haters in the city.
As protests like these continue and sentiments like these rise, New York City, once viewed as a bastion for American Jews, is becoming less and less safe for God’s chosen people. Let’s pray for an end to antisemitism in this city, and let’s ask God to protect every Jew in America!
